    Eric Weinstein just explained the problem with average people having access to the internet and all the worlds knowledge. Most people can take the info in, but they can’t prune it properly and thus end up connecting dots in all the wrong ways. That’s how you end up with flat earthers and other stupid conspiracy theorists in the 21st century. It’s not for lack of knowledge, it’s because of an overwhelming amount of info being unloaded on the uneducated mind.

      My only problem w EW here was that his explanations were way too complicated. He didn't need to go into logarithms and such to explain why 1x1=1. I majored in math (years ago) and even I had trouble following that.
      He missed a lot of opportunities, too. He should have pressed him more on the "it's just a metaphor" bit he's saying now. Like, so you're completely backing off on it now? You don't believe that any more? That's funny because you wrote an entire f***ing book on it, and it seems like it was at the core of all your theories.
      I also wish he had called TH out when he started to talk about the Dewey Decimal System, lol. Like, Terrence, what do you mean when you say that term? No, it's a method of organizing books in a library. So you see, when you make such fundamental mistakes like that, it makes people not take anything else you say seriously. Etc.

    • @citizen-erased
      @citizen-erased 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      @@wrc1210 I feel he did that on purpose. He knew straight away that if he pressed hard, he would fold pretty quickly. This is also why he didn't let Terrence go down his rabbit holes of ideas and tried to keep him on some sort of track that he could work with. It wasn't an easy task by any means.
      I didn't mind the logarithmic route, I even learned something there. Definitely something I forgot from undergrad.

There is no doubt in my mind that Eric is extremely intelligent. However, his theory had holes that were pointed out in peer review. Instead of using the feedback from academia to improve his theory, he doubled down on it and went after academia because they wouldn’t accept it. Whether it was due to his ego or a financial incentive, I don’t know. But it sure seems like he asked to go on JRE so he could use Terrence’s experience with Neil as a basis to attack academia for slighting him.

    You are definitely one of the few people who watched the entire 4 hr episode. But you've misinterpreted some of Eric's criticisms of Terrance and a lot of Terrance's concepts. For example, in the 1x1 = 2, retort Terrance gave to Eric, he never said he "made it up" as you're saying. He called it a metaphor and a statement to garner attention, but he still stands by it. Instead of "Metaphor" he should have said something along the lines of "representative sample" of why he feels current math is inadequate and does not correlate with reality/physics. Whether its wrong or right, its not a concept that can be proven to be wrong by using the very system he is questioning. In addition, Its clear you have a basic understanding of some of the variables and equations, like you said, but haven't delved into non-cartesian theories of science and math. Which is why Terrence's other points - again, not saying they're correct- seem foreign to you and "just dead wrong". lastly, even Eric was impressed at times that Terrence (whom has not formally studied mathematics at the highest level) understood some theories and equations he referenced.

    Eric's problem is using 10 sentences and 200 words to say something that can be said in two sentences and 40 words. He also loves using technical terminology that he knows 99% of listeners won't understand, yet he doesn't make an effort to explain then.
    He's the Salman Rushdie of the podcast world, when we needed a George Orwell. Orwell's writing is rightly lauded for being relatively easy to read and understand while still being deep, insightful and clever.

    In 2024, you don't need peer reviews. You have the resources to put your theories to practice. Especially Terrence.

    I thought Neil was respectful in his response video. There’s no need to humor an actor who has no respect for the hard work done by predecessors.

      Exactly, I don't understand why some people think you have to coddle an actor in a field where literal geniuses have been developing and debunking theories for hundreds of years. It's so disrespectful.
