- In this video, I react for the first time to the British band Sleep Token's song “Ascensionism”. I analyze their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate Vessel's vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. This is an amazing tune and I am so glad I finally reacted to it!

I sit and wait patiently for Sleep Token videos and as soon as I see one, I feel like a dog when their owner comes home. Just jumping around, nonsensically excited to the point where if you touch me, I might pee.

As someone who literally just left a sleeptoken concert, I HIGHLY recommend finding a live performance from them because he legitimately sounds BETTER than the studio somehow and I have no idea how he does it. They also now have Vesselettes (a female vocal trio) who add so much to the already beautiful vocals. They compliment Vessel so beautifully and add so much more raw emotion and depth it’s genuinely insane. I cried so hard towards the end of this song especially because he also changes the sound of the end of the song by changing the notes completely. It’s heartbreaking and stunning and I highly highly recommend 🙌🙌

You are not alone with the tears, there's something in the frase "So you take what you want and leave" and expecially with the way Vessel say "want"

@@JoeSamthe chord underneath the melody drops the root note down a half step when he hits that note. They also match it on the synth , And it just gives it a “suspended” feel.
If you go back and listen to the that whole “you make me wish…” part again - the first time around he doesn’t add that half step drop. And the second time he does. I hope that helps.

Oddly this was the last song I listened to last night and I see this pop up first thing this morning.
This song here is brutally honest for me. “Eternal ascension, setting me free” ….. = wanting to leave this earth to escape the pain and hurt of the relationship…….. just rips me open. I struggle with this song, emotionally. It hits real hard.
It follows with “ARE YOU REALLY OKAY” which I think is Vessel looking back in from the outside, asking himself that question after maybe attempting to take that very step we don’t talk about (“dripping crimson on the carpet……. please don’t hurt yourself again”)
Was such a privilege seeing them twice in Sydney last weekend

Immediately subscribed - this is the same way me and my musician friends discuss Sleep Token (and how we annoy the gatekeepers tbh) so it was fucking fresh as hell listening to you break down the song.
When the first heavy part comes, it sounds like they're channeling their inner 'Type O Negative World Coming Down' vibes.
What you said at the end sums up all 3 Sleep Token Album start to finish a soliloquy of co-dependency, toxicity and self destruction. Love this band, and love your analysis and passion for the music

I’m still of the opinion that these songs are possibly not about a a different person, but about himself, and his relationship with a version of himself he has attempted to shed and leave behind in the past, but struggles to move on from and keeps falling back into their arms. For example if you just imagine him singing all of this into a mirror to himslef, it all still makes a lot of sense if not even more sense (especially songs like DYWTYLM, and Are You Really Okay?)

First off, great reaction and I always love seeing you break down Sleep Token. Secondly, I would definitely like to see you react/breakdown your song I Can’t Decide. The reason I am requesting this is because I believe there is a ton to learn from how a detail oriented and very professional vocal goddess would choose to sing a song. Every choice you made in that song would provide a wealth of information for those of us who follow your channel to learn from.

I always loved playing the piano ( Not that I never really learned it right, or had training ) But remember buying a old big piano. Just amazing with clean tones, to create melodies.
Hearing that beginning just make me want to play.. Sadly, at this moment I no longer have a piano. I need to get one again.

I love the break at 6:58 where you really get to appreciate just how many layers they had sneakily built up over the previous few sections. Also the scream at 11:58 to start the final section is perfect - sounds like primal frustration
Your summoning breakdown was so good, i keep waiting for new sleep token songs but for some reason they are hard to find by searching, until they pop up like this one did. Such a great song.

Alot of people seem to miss the Vocal changes with "digital demons and Glitches in the code" they have REALLY nice effects over them
his voice literally glitches at "glitches in the code" the part and with digital demons make the NIGHT feel heavenly the night goes very Echoey/distorted

I listened to this album in full the day it came out, and the second this song ended I knew it was my favourite song I had ever heard. Almost a year later, it still holds up.

Keep going down this magical journey with one of the greatest modern bands ever. Tool was my fav...always will be...but these guys are def 1a/1b n vice versa. Put it this way...I listen to them every day :)

I always hear bits and pieces, effects and sounds that remind me older stuff . For example the background singing reminds me of Pony the r&b song as well as a sound from Change in the House of Flies.
I'd also love to know what plugins they use. Some of their ambient synth sounds are incredible right throughout their discography.
I'm pretty sure they use some sort of shimmer reverb in a lot of their songs, especially on the piano for that long, sparkly reverb tail. 'Valhalla Shimmer' definitely worth looking into if you haven't already!

I believe that vessel 1 ( vocalist , keyboard and piano and guitar )went to BIMM Bristol so there is a lot of musical knowledge he has when it comes to music theory in his song writing.

I've got a weird relationship with Sleep Token. When I'm listening to them, I hear elements like autocorrect and trap beats and part of me recoils as they're elements in music that I usually dislike, but for some reason this band really makes them work - and this bakes my noodle completely!
