I got a guitar when I was 10, threw it in the closet and took it out when I turned 13, then started playing. I don't recommend you start out trying to learn how to sweep. Start with the basics. I didn't learn how to sweet until 7 or so years into playing guitar.
jake pitts is the most amazing guitarist ever, who else, along with their busy touring schedule, takes time out of their day to teach fans like us how to play his very own songs and helps us refine our guitar techniques. Some other musicians may do this, but its usually when its being sponsored by guitar center or something. Jake does this out of the kindness of his heart. this is why hes my idol
its kinda strange that there is this rock star and is accually cool enough to read most of the comments and/or reply to the ones asking for advice thanks for the lessons, they help alot
I'm not really a BVB fan if I'm honest, but I must respect this guy, he reaches out to his fans and even helps them to be good guitarists like him, props for that.
YES!!! Why do so many people teaching sweeps forget to say this one thing, "The hardest part is getting both your hands in sync." I'm not a BvB fan but props to the guy, I've never been able to say anything about his playing and his teaching is just as good.
This is the type of thing that makes me love BVB even more: they take time to post videos like this to try and help people who want to become as great as they are :) I hope that one day I can become even half as great as these guys
Jake, I have been listening to BVB for a while and I love your songs. I actually went to your concert in Atlanta this year, and let me tell you, I was blown away. Your songs have saved me and have influenced me to keep playing guitar because I have a dream of being in a famous band like BVB. Keep shredding man! -1998MNG
Man, you're phenomal Jake, definitely like my top idol in metal. I've played guitar for about a year and a half and I'm reading tabs on "Perfect Weapon" this song is honestly a whole load of awesome and it's so much fun to play. Being a beginner I've been spending a lot of time on it but I just wanna say thank you for writing such awesome metal/rock pieces.
awesome dude! that's one of the best ways of explaining it ive ever seen, alot of people just say "well you do this *starts sweeping*" then look up like "yeah, you cant do it" cant wait to see you guys in march :)
Wow thank you jake for taking the time to show this! Sweeping has always been my weak point, so I've sort of neglected practicing it. But seriously this vid did help me out a lot and while I am honestly not a huge BVB fan, I do respect what you guys have accomplished in such little time on the music scene. Once again, thank you for the lesson and best of luck to you and the rest of BVB \m/
Jake, watching you play guitar is like magic in real life. I just purchased "Set the World On Fire" and "Wretched and Divine" and it's still like magic even when I have just the audio. Keep it up! ~Hope
Thank you Jake! im in rock school at my high school and they want me to play a song that involves sweep picking and when I asked the teacher how it works he couldnt really help me but this just helped
thanks dudee!!! helped me out ALOT! :) I'm practicing on the first 3 and I think i got it down. I'll add bits and pieces little by little. THANKS! :) this is the only video on sweeping that ever helped me! Thanks again Jake. BTW what price does that guitar run for?
Jake you're so sweet for doing this, thank you! I'm learning this with my guitar teacher Justin and we're working on sweeping and alternate. Now I can practice on the side. Thank you!!!! -3
Hey, Jake! So Idk if you're ever going to see this but, you're seriously my number 1 influence when it comes to guitar playing. You're absolutely legendary. xD
so i just wanted to tell you this for a long time.... you are literally the only reason i picked my guitar back up :') i have some really weird medical problems which make it incredibly hard to learn/play. i have always had a passion for guitar and singing and to be completely honest you are why i am even trying to learn. so i just wanted to thank you. i cant afford lessons so I'm trying to self teach (but it really isn't working out) wish i could tell you this in person though. thanks
I saw that in your 'Ask Jake' video (can't remember if it's the first or second one) you said you learnt how to sweep pick from a video or a dvd, do you by any chance have a link to that video if it's also online? I've learnt the basics from this, but there's some other things I need to do to get it right c:
This helps so much. Your explanation is great. I've never had it explained simpler. Thank you sir. Would you mind giving a bit of info on how you guys get your sound? Like amps and settings. Thanks
haha you explained it well enough man. You are one of my guitar idols along with Jinxx, Dimebag, Jacky Vincent, and a few others. I wanted to as what amp settings do you use, and what kind of guitar is that?
Im really a bass player and a fan of ashley but ... ive learned that technique because of you jake ! .. best guitarist for me ! Kyle 13 for Philippines !!
Awesome lesson tbh man, I've struggled for a long while with sweeps and this has honestly helped. If I may I would like to suggest what you could teach about? Scales. Its basic but I know guitarists in bands that are breaking through who really dont know a single thing about scales, and it affects everything. Just an idea Jake. Kudos though, you have flawless technique.
How long have you been playing? I'm gonna start because you and Jinxx inspire me to learn how to play guitar!!! :D (I know Jinxx plays rhythm guitar but to me it still counts to one of my friends it doesn't. To me it counts because its still a guitar)
jake thanks for learning me some sweap picking payed a our on it can do the easy ones now :P i didt watch other video`s but i dident get it at all until u showed thanks jake rock on!
omg thanks!!! btw Jake if you could answer my question: Will your signature guitars be for sale? Awesome vid, helped alot. Respect for being a big shot and still posting on here for your fans
I also feel that sweeps are different for what you're trying to learn. For example, I just learned to play the sweep in the solo to Rebel Love Song, and that was easy. I tried learning the sweep for New Religion (which I think is a 3 sting sweep), and can't, even thought RLS's is a 5 string sweep. Also depends on how much devotion you put to it. If you put a good 5 hours into your first sweep, you'll get it. Then you will need like an hour or so to do additional sweeps. :)
thanks jake helped me alot. this is the only skill i havent learned. i can do hammer ons pull offs and tapping but not this. love bvbs music and dont listen to people that say your a screamo band. your rock and roll. keep at it man. peace!!!
That is because Syn is his primary influence. I remember Jake has said that himself. Just like how a lot of Syn's stuff reminds of the late and great Dimebag Darrell, who was his favorite guitarist. And Dime picked up a lot from EVH and Eddie from Page and Clapton and so on. So for everyone out there that is why it is important to respect the different generations of guitarists, because your favorite shredder was influenced by someone older.
hi jake. i'm an aspiring guitarist of about 6 months and you are my favourite guitar player. i practice between 3 and 6 hours a day. im 14 years old. i can just barely play the main riff to knives and pens. based on that. how long do you think i have to wait to attempt sweeping or should i start now? i want to be amazing like you and work my *** off evry day. please reply. and maybe do some stuff on begginner training. thank you for this video! bye.
What kind of strings do you use, im using Ernie ball power slinky strings but they but i find them kinda lacking in playabilty, also what are some things to practice to up speed and accuracy with notes? Thanks for the lessons too i find it admirable that you take time to help those who want to do something with their life in music.
Hey Jake how do you play Savior live? Do you use a acoustic patch? or do you just don't play it live? thanks man you are my inspiration on guitar. just had to put that out there.
Hey Jake. My daughter and I are going to met you and the guys at the Rams Head show in Baltimore. Really looking forward to it! I have a question for you. How do you get suck a crazy good drive tone and NO noise when you're not playing? Are you running a noise suppressor or what? Thanks!
@JakePittsBVB how long have you been playing? And how much did you practice sweeping, also, what kind of guitarists did you learn from? I hope you can reply, I will see you at soundwave brisbane woo!
Dude, your guitar playing is god like!? WTF!? May i ask, how long did it take you to master Sweeping like you have and what daily exersises could you recomend to get better and faster at sweeping?
I worked my ass off, struggled, but just kept at it, and thats how I got to where I am. I love it and want to keep taking it as far as I can go.
Sweeps are played as arpeggios, which means each string played individually. It just takes practice. you will get it.
Hope so!
I got a guitar when I was 10, threw it in the closet and took it out when I turned 13, then started playing. I don't recommend you start out trying to learn how to sweep. Start with the basics. I didn't learn how to sweet until 7 or so years into playing guitar.

Back in the day I learned to play sweeps with this video when I was 12 years old ❤️
Thank you Jake!
what a great guitarist. he tours all over the world, yet he takes the time to make videos for us. he really loves his fans
That's right, it takes a lot of practice. It took me four, yes FOUR fucking years to play an acceptable sweep arpeggio, and that happened today.
So if I were to take breaks and not play "for hours" would I have to start from scratch T_T
Exercise Dancefloors lol
4 YEARS?! Why the fuck did it take so long? I just needed a month
Oh, and congratulations! 😅
Thanks for being there Jake..!! you're an inspiration!
That was really good to watch, wish I could play as fast as you can. Gonna give this a try later
its kinda strange that there is this rock star and is accually cool enough to read most of the comments and/or reply to the ones asking for advice
thanks for the lessons, they help alot
This has the same energy as Ray Toro saying “so it’s super simple” and playing the intro to Thank You For The Venom-
That's what I was thinking. Lol.
I'm not really a BVB fan if I'm honest, but I must respect this guy, he reaches out to his fans and even helps them to be good guitarists like him, props for that.
I remember watching these tutoriales by Jake a while back, thank you for everything man!
your signature guitar is actually one of the best guitars i've ever seen :') i love you
Dude, you actually have no idea how helpful this was.. Thanks so much! I loved the fast harmony at the start of "In The End", great work :)
YES!!! Why do so many people teaching sweeps forget to say this one thing, "The hardest part is getting both your hands in sync."
I'm not a BvB fan but props to the guy, I've never been able to say anything about his playing and his teaching is just as good.
Using this to teach myself sweeps right now! Love watching your streams and playing along or practicing broski
I wish I had a teacher like you Jake, is very lucky to have you in the band
This is some wild sweeping! The "out" notes are special. I tip my hat respectfully, you've got some great ideas!
I learned sweeping from this video a while ago, and now I'm able to play your songs!!😃
thank you Jake Pitts you helped me a lot
This is the type of thing that makes me love BVB even more: they take time to post videos like this to try and help people who want to become as great as they are :) I hope that one day I can become even half as great as these guys
The day that i am able to play like Jake Pitts will be the day that I'll consider myself a guitarist, you are my God man!! Keep up the great work
I hate BVB, but I have to admit he is a great guitarist.
Svil Buscus BVB are AMAZING they are my favourite band ever
Jake, I have been listening to BVB for a while and I love your songs. I actually went to your concert in Atlanta this year, and let me tell you, I was blown away. Your songs have saved me and have influenced me to keep playing guitar because I have a dream of being in a famous band like BVB. Keep shredding man!

I've been sweeping for some time, but this really helped to take things to the next level. Great job! Thanks!

I just wanted to thank you for sharing that.. I will definitely practice that for sure.
Currently learning how to play guitar. I can't wait till I can start playing this stuff! Thanks Jake you are a big insparation!

I love that cracked mirror BC Rich Mockingbird. Such a neat finish.
@LaisYumi483 I'm not in Australia yet. I'm flying out tonight. Just did a quick one.
Hey, Jake! So Idk if you're ever going to see this but, you're seriously my number 1 influence when it comes to guitar playing. You're absolutely legendary. xD
The show in Buffalo last night was amazing. Jake is so precise.
Your one of the main reasons i play guitar...and your lessons&tutorials are a huge help. Your just badass on guitar..:D
oh look another guitarist with a mockingbird I thought I was alone in this world
Good lesson Jake. Loving the BC Rich as well. Any chance you could do a rig rundown of the gear you use, and how you record? I'd appreciate it!
just watching the joints and tendons move in his hand was magnificent. i dont even play guitar and i paid attention to everything
so i just wanted to tell you this for a long time.... you are literally the only reason i picked my guitar back up :') i have some really weird medical problems which make it incredibly hard to learn/play. i have always had a passion for guitar and singing and to be completely honest you are why i am even trying to learn. so i just wanted to thank you. i cant afford lessons so I'm trying to self teach (but it really isn't working out) wish i could tell you this in person though. thanks
Thank you Jake! I've been having a hard time with it for ages! :)
I saw that in your 'Ask Jake' video (can't remember if it's the first or second one) you said you learnt how to sweep pick from a video or a dvd, do you by any chance have a link to that video if it's also online? I've learnt the basics from this, but there's some other things I need to do to get it right c:
Brad Coyne It was a home made dvd of a guitarist from a metal band. It's not anywhere online.

This helps so much. Your explanation is great. I've never had it explained simpler. Thank you sir.
Would you mind giving a bit of info on how you guys get your sound? Like amps and settings. Thanks
this is why i like bvb jake actually will show you what he's doing unlike other bands
haha you explained it well enough man.
Kyle 13 for Philippines !!
i could never do that in a million years but your great at it!!
you explained it fine, heaps easier to understand than the other vids i've seen. thanks :D

omg thanks!!! btw Jake if you could answer my question: Will your signature guitars be for sale? Awesome vid, helped alot. Respect for being a big shot and still posting on here for your fans
this is probably the only video that a proffesional has made where they actually explain how to do it rather than how they do it
More of these please🔥
Hey Jake, I was waiting forever for a new vid hehe you're amazing! What are your future plans for videos?
And this is how i learn sweep picking for my live till right now
this one video was amazingly more helpful than my instructor has been....

True. It's very easy to impress people who have never really seen sweeping before.
jake making guitar tutorials is the best thing ever found on youtube..exept fo bvb xD
That is because Syn is his primary influence. I remember Jake has said that himself. Just like how a lot of Syn's stuff reminds of the late and great Dimebag Darrell, who was his favorite guitarist. Jake you're amazing!! We love you
@RandomVidz60 BC Rich, this particular guitar is a custom version of the BC Rich Mockingbird.
Dude, your guitar playing is god like!? WTF!? May i ask, how long did it take you to master Sweeping like you have and what daily exersises could you recomend to get better and faster at sweeping?
Jake you sir are the owner of my dream guitars
