UPDATE Regarding the airport transport! Our lovely bus number 119 doesn't go anymore. A few weeks ago they changed it and now there's a trolleybus number 59 !
@@tombrugen9554 Hello, can we buy bus ticket via credit/debit cards ? If I buy 24 hours pass can i use it any kind of transportation like buses, trains or trams ?
@HONESTGUIDE Janek Hi 👋 I'm a Czech 🇨🇿 American 🇺🇸 and in Chicago there is a neighborhood called Pilsen . It is because the people who came over , my family included were Czech 🇨🇿 ❤️. My family opened a tavern 🍺 there ❤️. Just fyi for you ❤️ Can't wait to visit Czechia 🇨🇿 I wish my grandparents were still alive to see how beautiful Prage and how Czechia is now . They had to leave in 1937 , well you know the history 💔.
No question from me, I just wanted to say thank you to both of the Honest Guides who are a HUGE reason why I became such a passionate learner of all things Czech. Over the 7 years you two have been making videos, I must have seen them all! They are what kept me motivated when I decided to study Czech as my foreign language of choice in University. Ever since I was a little kid and my Czech grandma would tell me stories of her home and it's always been my dream to go to the Czech Republic. Hopefully some day, I will be able to so I can use all of this Honest Knowledge! Much love from Nebraska, An Honest Fan
I didn't get to know my grandparents, but they were both from Moravia. We are going there next to search for my roots! And you know what? We may be able to get an EU passport through our ancestry! (kinda tired of America, if you know what I mean). My last name is Pijaček, and there are tons of them here. (Spelled "Pyacek" now, but I may change it back). You gotta come here! It's A-MAY- zing!
I love kofola as well. If you are looking for it there are multiple offers on Allegro with different variants - I buy a pack of six/eight bottles every few months, sometimes adding also Vinea.
I love that you only have 4 metro lanes you need and that the trains are old and not in best condition but because of that are very light and accelerate fast. There is also no AC needed cause windows are always open and constant airstream
@@Schacal6666 There are current only 3 metro lines. A 4th one will open by 2029. And they're all well connected with trams, busses and trains throughout the city.
I like to go to the end of the tram or Metro and explore...been their 12 times, I even spotted these two pushing a bell across Charles bridge, I kid you not 😃
Yes, exactly! If you fancy this stuff - there is a well-stocked online shop with different transport memorabilia, a historical tram that takes you to the pub inside of a tram, as well as a restaurant that delivers food and drinks by train. For the full experience you can reach Prague by rail - it takes a long time from Poland, but it is a nice experience.
These videos really added to my experience, thank you. Have worked with Czechs in UK, down to earth, quick to laugh, nice to see the same out there, it’s the people that make a place.
IMPORTANT:!!!!!!!!!!! Public transport is free for people over 65 years of age. You only need a passport with you. AND MUCH MORE IMPORTANT: at the trainstation there is an infocenter. Bring with you 150,-- Crowns/when you are 60 to 65 years and 550,- Crowns under 60 years and two passport pictures and go there. You get a monthly card for the public transport. When you stay more days THIS IS THE CHEAPEST ticket and you do not need to make the circus with always buying tickets when you enter a tram or bus or underground. For only about SIX Euros/over 60 years and 22 Euros/under 60 years you go wherever and how often you want, also by the ferries. I mentioned that often here with the Honest Guides channel and I am sorry, that they never explain it in their Videos, because that is really a super Tipp.
My wife & I love Praque. It is a must stop on every European trip from the USA. Praque has the best food in Europe and the best food in Prague is at the Kantýna. We do take the express bus from the Airport because it is the simplest way to get to the main train station (least stress). Within the city we walk, taking the transit only to outlying castles & cathedrals. We always take in a classical music concert in Prague.
I arrived in Prague 3 days ago due to an emergency with no time to do ANY research and came across your videos after arriving. THANK YOU!!! Funny, informative, and very helpful. So glad I found them.
Regarding obtaining cash, I was a French student on a 3 month internship in Prague and as long as I sticked to ATMs from big banks (Raiffeisen, ČSOB, KB, etc.) the rate seemed very decent with my French debit card. And at least the machine was upfront about all fees, rate and whatever bits of money that I would lose during the withdrawal.
The biggest issue with these bank ATMs is to carefully pick how much you want to withdraw. They often offer crazy amounts for foreign cards, starting at hundreds of euros and going up. There's always an option to pick your own amount, use it.
This is what I always recommend - to find ATM of some local bank, not using those ATMs called just an "ATM" which are there just for stupid tourists and when I visited Portugal in 2019, my Czech card didn't work with those Euronet worldwide ATMs which I still don't know why, it's clear that these ATMs are meant for American tourists.
@@Low-keyProfileI'd suggest you get just a little cash for emergencies. Decide in advance how much that would be both in Czech crowns and in your currency. You'll be able to pay almost everywhere with your card.
Dobry den! We love your channel. We lived in Prague 33 years ago, and we are returning for the first time next year. It’s great to see that Prague has kept its spirit. What a great city! Dekuju!
For my entire life, Prague has always been my #1 on my bucket list! It’s just absolutely stunningly beautiful to me! The gothic architecture! The aesthetic of the city! I just, have loved it for decades. I can not die before I make it there one day!
So far out of all the European capitals I've been to, Prague remains my favorite. Really reasonable prices, great local food (especially for the cold weather) and really cheap beer. You could find amazing tap beer literally everywhere! Your guides were also a lifesaver. The fair currency-exchange list is amazing, as well as some local restaurant recommendations. And the restaurants I loved the most, were the ones names "Lokál". There were a few restaurant locations around the city that seemed to be a "chain" and every day they had a new menu with really tasty and relatively cheap food! I can't wait to visit Prague again in the near future to hopefully discover more of the city and more amazing dishes! P.S. One weird thing that I noticed is that youtube seems to have unsubscribed me from the channel. I have been a subscriber for many years and today I noticed that the subscribe button said "Subscribe" instead of "Subscribed" with the little bell that it's usually like. Not sure if it was a visual bug or youtube really did unsubscribe me.
So, if the city was a bit pricier (which I would fully welcome), it wouldn't be your favourite city any more? You mention low prices three times in this short comment. No cultural events. No historic sights. Sigh..
Lokál is a chain! And their fried cheese is legendary. All in all top quality service, top quality ingredients, great beer and all that with affordable prices.
Hi Jose, I believe that you are from Prague, just needed a suggestions from you, I am planning to visit Prague this August. Can you please tell me whether thats a suitable month to visit Prague?
I have been watching your videos for several years probably and this summer I finally visited Brno and Prague with my girlfriend for a few days. It was really nice and we liked both of cities a lot. Historical sights are beautiful, food is delicious and of course beer is great! Thank you for all the tips and recommendations and keep up the honest guiding!
My wife and I just came back from Prague and I have to say that I planned almost the entirety of the trip based on your suggestions, so thanks a lot! I actually think I saw you around the Mlynska kavarna on Sunday (04/09) and tried to catch you and say hi but couldn't find you.
Just came back from a trip to Hrad Sternberk, absolute amazing Place. Located in beautiful Sazava/Sassau Region. Don’t forget the surrounding of Prague/ Prag. Kutna Hora/ Kuttenberg beautiful small Silver City, with the mind blowing skeleton Church, I be never seen such a place in the World. Or directly at the City-Border Pruhonice with Palace and a real huge Park, or Karlstejn, one of the most beautiful medieval Castles…
Gluten free top tips: in the supermarkets, there is a traditional honey cake made gluten free (Marlenka brand) absolutely delicious! And in the square near the Bethlehem Chapel, there is an amazing gluten free Italian restaurant called Alriso. Most coeliacs who eat there once, go again as soon as they can. All the food is gluten free except a couple of the beers on the menu.
Thank you so much for the tip! I am a Czech coeliac but I am not from Prague so I didn't know about this restaurant but I will definitely try it next time I'm in Prague. It looks very good!
For everyone planning a trip to Prague who is stumbling upon this video and channel: your're in great luck! I Cannot recommend these guys enough. I was planning a trip to Prague for me and my girlfriend a month back and started doing research not that long before departure. Found the honest guide channel and checked out this video at the beginning + most of the Prague related videos you guys have done. Had a BLAST in your amazing city, and we got to experience and see so many great places/restaurants/bars thanks to you guys. Thank you a lot Janek & Honza, you guys are truely amazing (and honest) guides!
Hi I’m visiting in 2 days with my girlfriend. Do you have a few recommendations for where to dine or what bars or activities to got to? Will he much appreciated
I watched many of his videos before going to Prague in 2019. Now I am currently a tourist in Germany and think of his videos and I am always so thankful for him 👍
Any suggestions or things to keep in mind when visiting Prague. I read about trains (activating tickets before the journey) and giving tips when dining in restaurants and pubs.
Just wanted to say I really appreciate all of your videos! I stumbled across this channel while looking for tourist scams and while they weren't about the country I was researching, I definitely want to visit Prague sometime in the future!
Thanks for teaching people to be cool, your great efforts to eliminate "lock graffiti", restoring parks, exposing crooks and being so smart and funny. Yay Janek and Honza!
Just back from Prague. First of all, thanks for all of your videos, I'm following you since years and even watched all the videos that are no longer available (loved the food tours and found some good places in them). Regarding cash: I draw money form KB (Komerční banka) ATMs, they didn't take any fees (if you decline the conversion) for that (thank you KB). One place that once was shown in your video was Naše maso in Dlouha Road which is a butcher that serves awesome burger and especially the Pastrami Sandwich is great. One of my favorite fine dining restaurants is Blue Wagon which is in Vinorhady and deserves much more attantion than it has. We had the cheapest beer in Restaurace U Mlynáře between Charles Bridge and the Castle (about 1€) and they also serve good food (I had a not perfect Svickova but ll the others were pretty good for the price) especially considering that place in town where it is more likely to hit a tourist trap. All in all, coming back since more than 20 years now and thank you Honza and Janek (the guy behind the camera first :-)) for all the time we had together and I will be back soon. Cheers and love to all the nice people we met in Czech Republic over all.
Hello ! Thank you very much for this incredible video ! A small question that was running in my head for a bit of time, would you maybe consider doing videos for foreigners that want to move to Prague and Czech Republic, or even that are living there ? Some tips for the everyday life and so on. I myself moved to Prague a few month ago, after spending my Erasmus there, and I absolutely love it ! I still love watching your videos about facts that I sometimes already know, but just the fact that you're speaking about one of my favourite city is incredible ! Keep it up !
We just had a three day visit to Prague and this was a BIG help !. Your public transport is just amazing.. such an unbelievable high frequency and basically almost allways on time. Magic Thank you for leading us the right way :-)
We just left from 4 nights in Prague to Česky Krumlov where we will be spending only two nights, and I wish it were more! We did watch a few of your videos before our visit, and it was a huge help. Also Jen from "Dream Prague". Thanks to you both for the warning against the jedelniks! There were things I wish I'd watched this video for before hand, but we mostly got it down. Thanks tons. You Prague-ites are SO LUCKY to live there! Everyone we saw on the trams from our lodgings on the #3 and #17 lines (didn't get a chance to use the Metro, darnit) was beautiful and well put together. Of course I notice the women the most, but everyone seemed to have their lives well in hand. We stayed at Botel Racek, with small rooms, but really nice and quiet, right on the river. Lovely staff. Now we are at Pension Gardena in Česky Krumlov in a beautiful room with a garden courtyard right outside our door, and a view of the castle! So cool. Another fairy-tale town. I hope the Czechs appreciate how good they have it!
I hope you guys tackle a Prague guide during the Christmas season. There are other “guides” who say that everything is closed on Christmas day in Prague while others say it’s a festive day. I’ve seen a lot of conflicting sources that’s why The Honest Guide is my ultimate source of truth when it comes to everything Prague.
The conflicting information might stem from the fact that Czech Christmas happens on Christmas Eve, not Christmas Day. So everything is in full swing up to Christmas Eve and it's simmering down on Christmas Day and after. Also note that by law many shops (all big ones) must close at noon on Christmas Eve and stay closed for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
The whole month leading to christmas day is festive, especially sundays. Those are full of food and drink stands at the big squares. Christmas day (24th) is more like "hey if you forgot to buy something, you've got time until noon". Like Marvin said, everything closes at 12:00 on 24th and you're supposed to go back to your family and spend the rest of the day with them. The next day we usually visit our parents on 25th and on 26th we visit others (aunties, cousins, best friends ...). Then we go back to work on 27th, but not 100%, we already start making plans for new year's.
I experienced something I did not under stand last year at holiday season. I knew shops were closed from noon the 23rd till the 26th or 27th. So, I arrived early at the kaufland. When I tried to check out the guy behind me started yelling at the cashier not to accept my money. Not that I was paying with a large bill, 300kc for a 260 kc total. Do they not accept cash on the last day of shopping?? I ended up leaving my purchase there and walking out.
@@auroraresident2775 that makes zero sense. Like absolutely none. There's no connection to the xmass holidays, guy was probably crazy. Also, the shops close at noon 24th, not 23rd.
@@auroraresident2775 No, there is no special rule about not accepting cash, they should accept it. Your description sounds rather like you met a crazy person.
I visited Prague for the first time in May and you guys were lifesavers! I had the best time following your videos suggestions. I’m looking forward to returning for even longer next time! ❤
Thanks for another great video Janek. We just drove from Germany to Prague today. We will be camped here for a few days if you’re interested in meeting up.
Not only Prague is the place to be. I like to be in Plzen. Living my dream, when I was 12 years old, to drink a Pils in Pilsen. I like to walk along the German/Czech Border in Klingenthal/Kraslice/Bublava or Bayerisch Eisenstein/Zelezna Ruda.
I discovered you guys the day before I went there for a 2-day visit about 5 years ago. Loved your content so much that I stick around - I've probably spent more time watching you can I spent in Prague!
My first ever solo travel to Prague was so amazing and memorable because of your videos! I just want to say that you and Honza make ONE OF THE BESTS TRAVEL VLOGS ever on youtube. Like how I wish other European cities have local vloggers as informative, and brilliant, and honest as you guys. Thank you! and more please.
This is the first time I came across your channel. Became a subscriber. Huge respect man. The efforts behind the video and the way you explain all the stuff. No words. Keep up the good work 🔥
Haven't been out of the UK since I was 6 years old (I'm 31 now) just got my passport and Prague will be the first foreign city I visit (Hopefully the first of many) your videos have helped me out with the planning so thanks!
We have visited Prague a couple of times. It’s a lovely place. I love it there, especially all the different design period architecture. There’s just something about Prague. Thank you for the video
I watched a lot of your videos before travelling to Prague last July. I visited Cukrar, Sia, The Red Stag and Kantyna. Plus a modern Czech restaurant called The Eatery, we were sitting on the chef’s table, it was an amazing experience!
I looked for videos about scams in Napoli. And met Honest Guide on TH-cam . 😮 And it’s really the best show for travelers. Thank you! After Napoli I have a strong intention to visit Prag. ❤
Honest Prague guys are the best. Visited Prague and their suggestions were priceless. Sent link to friends who are planning a trip. One note. We tried to use some common terms in Czech like good morning, thank you and please. My accent must have been horrible because no one seemed to acknowledge our effort. I'm sure we insulted them. Keep up the good work.
@14:46 That's Hungarian _'kurtos kalacs'_ . And they don't make it in cones or fill it with 'stuff' - not traditionally, anyway. The outside is usually coated in sugar with cinnamon or ground nuts.
There are quite a lot of pubs in Prague that do not accept cards. Or say they do not accept cards. If you want to have money on you go to an ATM machine outside the city center and outside the tourist places. Those ATM's don't charge you an extra fee. And thanks to you guys of the honest guide to give all of the recommendations in all of the video's. Those are really helpful and insightful. When i'm back in beautiful Prague again i would like to take a tour with you if that is possible? And see through your eyes how you experience your city. So keep up the good work.
Oh no!!! My friend and I have visited Prague two weeks ago and we didn't know about the no alcohol in public law, we're German and always had a "Wegbier" (Beer-for-the-way) with us! 🙈🙈🙈 I mean we were absolutely civil and not drunk and/or loud, but nonetheless, thank god we managed to sail through and not get fined!
Yeah, honestly I've never seen anyone being fined for drinking alcohol il public. Most Czechs don't even know about this law/city ordinance. And if you drink only beer in public, that I believe no Czechs would find problematic. By the way, Wegbier... you guys really have a word for everything. Love that!
Slight notes, as of sept.2023. - walk, everywhere, you'll find nice places along the way - there were ~3 places that did not accept card - don't worry about water, just drink beer, haven't had water in 5 days. Didn't get drunk. - be careful of taxis, they think of themselves as trams and hardly ever stop at crosswalk Everything else I agree with. Personal viewpoint of course...
I was in Prague in 2019 at the start of a Viking River Cruise. I am so sad that I didn't discover Kofola until near the end of our trip when we had a stop in Bratislava. We're coming back at the end of the month and I am definitely having some Kofola when I get there. Hopefully, they'll have it at the airport so I can have it while waiting for my luggage. Sadly, nobody imports it to the States. Also, we can get Pilsner Urquell here, but it tastes like garbage compared to what you can get from pubs and restaurants in Prague. It just doesn't travel well.
I've been watching a lot of your videos the last year and I don't think I have seen you make one of places to stay at. Like hotels, hostels, airbnb, etc. so tourists don't get ripped off. Love your videos!
Hello, we’re on the train to Kutna Hora right now. We watched your videos since 2020 and only are able to come to Prague this week. Our daughters went here on separate trips this summer and they also watched your videos. Thank you for all the great tips!
I wish they would ban the scooters for rent, which are all over streets, but I don't want them to ban privately owned scooters. I still use one once in a while, instead of using my car. Besides that, there are new bikes for rent, which can't just be dumped anywhere, but needs to be parked in designated areas, or else they will force you to pay extra. Just need them in more areas of the city.
@@Kim-J312 are you crazy? People are not very considerate in cars here. There are some bike lanes, but they are full of pot holes. And sometimes the bike lane just dissappear in the middle of lanes where cars are merging. I have my own scooter and go on the sidewalk, if they are wide enough and dont have cobble stone. And I usually don't drive faster than a person can run. I step off if there's too many people and respect the pedestrians. When Prague gets proper bike lanes, I'll use them, like in Denmark or Netherlands.
It's sad because it was supposed to be nice way how to move around, but it ended just as overpriced tourist attraction and nobody normal really uses it for moving around, it's just for fun. I tried these scooters and it's very unstable and most of them are locked to 20 km/h max, so I don't feel good with that on road because I am too slow, that's why people move on sidewalks with that. It it was at least 25 or 30, it would be completely ok on road, but it's still not really stable, you have to always hold it with both hands.....it's much better to use some e-bike.
@@simonp37 I agree that driving it on a sidewalk is lesser evil than driving it on a road, it's not ideal, but you really don't feel safe with that on road, but if you are not stupid or drunken, you can use it safely on sidewalk in places where it's possible, in some places it's not possible, in some yes, I think that banning generally dringing on sidewalks is not good solution because there are places where you have 10m wide empty sidewalk and drive some 20 km/h scooter on road is totaly stupid in such place. But in center of Prague, using some scooters doesn't make much sense anyway, most of people just walk to some tram or metro, riding there on such stupid thing would be too complicated and stresfull and also car drivers can be very agressive and hate you if you are not also in car and they will try to kill you, people who are that crazy to drive in center of Prague are mostly psychopats who will not make single step without car and try to block them with some 20 km/h thing, they will just go over you and another driver will kick you to some hole next to road instead of calling an ambulance, I am not kidding, they will do that.
Thoroughly enjoyed our several days in the beauty of Prague 5 years ago at the completion of our Viking Danube cruise. Had always wanted to go to Prague and it certainly was everything I’d hoped for and more! 💕. Watched your videos before hand and are still watching you! 💕😊💕😊😊💕😊💕😊
Nazdar, Janků a Honzo! Dekuju mockrát za kazdeho Honest Guide episodiček! Ja, Američan, jsem bydlel 1994 do 1999 v Praze. Bohužel nemám šanci vrátit. Vaše videa me pomáhat ale, vrátit virtuální. I liked your out-of-the center videos, like the one on Jižní Město. Maybe you could do more on other čtvrtý. When I lived in Prague, there were ghost tours, history tours, and Rock-n-Roll dissidence and Velvet Revolution tours. Could you do videos going to the sites of 1. folklore, 2. the Pražského Povstání 3. Cultural dissent that snowballed into the Velvet Revolution 4. Communist sites or places affected by Communist historical events, like Vítkov and the story of Gottwald's interment ?
@@HONESTGUIDEMy parents were in Prague for Prague Spring. They said everyone was acting so free that some girls just peed in public on the Charles Bridge.
I just applied for vacation for next year. taking May off. trying to decide where to go with the wife, and this video has made Prague very high, if not top of my list so far!
Hi Janek and Honza! could you consider making a video about attractions for kids (traveling with kids in Prague). I visited your beautiful city but without my daughter and traveling with children is completely different. Greetings from Poland.
If your kids are into animals, I’d deffinitely recommend a Prague Zoo, it’s just a couple minutes by bus from the city centre and it is truly outstanding ( I have been to many zoos all over the world and Prague is still one my favourites ).
I visited Prague a month ago and your videos helped us a lot. But now a friend of mine who is reliable on a wheelchair just wants to know if Prague (the old town especially) is wheelchair-friendly. I felt bad that when i was traveling in Prague i didn’t paid attention to this detail. If possible, can you make a video about it?
Hi. If your friend wants to spend time touring the city, it should be absolutely no problem. Some restaurants may not be wheelchair accesible, but not many. Many trams are also wheelchair accessible. If not, the next one will be, just wait 5 mins. Except the tram 23 which is historical. Most subway stops have an elevator to the surface. He should be absolutely fine!
@@Veenacz thank you! And may i ask about getting to Petrin Hill? Can ppl with wheelchair hop on the funicular? Or the only option is to get on top of the hill is by car?
This is a great summary of a lot of the advice you guys have given in other videos! I’m hoping to come to Prague in November so I’m going to be taking notes on this video 😅 One question that I hope you haven’t been asked too much-do you have a favourite Christmas market in Prague or elsewhere in the Czech Republic? If not, what are some of your favourite winter activities? Děkuji :))
Markets on the Václavské náměstí, Staroměstské náměstí, or Havelské Trhy, would be your best pick regarding Prague. Outside of Prague, Český Krumlov is a very nice place for winter markets. A lot of Czechs, however, travel to Dresden (either by car, which is 90 minutes, or by train, which is around 100 minutes) in Germany, where you can find truly outstanding Winter markets! Regarding winter activities, Czech does not have high mountains like the Alps, but skiing is very popular. I would recommend Klínovec, Špindlerův Mlýn or Černá Hora. If skiing is not your thing, doing the same activities you do in the summer is also fine. Sightseeing, going out to the nature and so on is still very magical during the winter, that is if you are lucky enough to have snow when you arrive.
My favourites are actually those at castles. A lot of Czech castles (almost every) have a christmas markets either in front of them or in the castle inner "square". I would recommend those at Křivoklát castle, that is not too far away from Prague. Then there is the famous Karlštejn obviously, probably the most iconic Czech castle. So check some of those.
If you are interested in authentic local Christmas markets, come to Brno for it, city center is small and you can easily walk from one Christmas market to another, each one is a little bit different.
This is fake news! The rate on which they will give you your money back in CZK is extremely bad for you, you´ll lose hundreds of crowns on a bigger exchange. Don ´t ever do it!
I used revolut, I stayed in the liberec region so was constantly crossing the polish border spending in zlotys, koruna and euros, sometime different currencies each day. There are other companies but these top up exchange cards are by far the best
I miss Kofola,, it has really unique taste can't really describe it. Sadly you cant get that here. Fun fact ''Molo'' is used as an synonym for male '' private parts'' in Finnish, people in Bratislava were wondering why i smile like an idiot when i saw restaurant with that name.
There are villages in Czechia, whose names seems to be funny even to us. It's innocent, centuries back it had different meaning, but in today's language it's Řitka - Little butthole 49.8945143N, 14.2992329E , or Pičín - The Cunt town 49.7453542N, 14.0577494E :D
this is the best site I have come across yet ..I am planning a trip and the information is very useful and just what a tourist needs to be prepared. Showing the money side of things is great..and also explaining the local transport so well....so thank you in advance and I am excited to get there..and hope not to annoy the locals but join in with the crowds.
Dobry Den! :) .I am coming to Prague as a student in 20 days. Unfortunately, I still have't found any apartment or any type of place to stay in. Could you please recommend some websites that are trusty.
13:26 the little "comment" under the video says: I wonder if someone will freeze frame this and will actually try to read this. See, I'm sitting here by my computer and I'm wondering like "Hey I'd it actually necessary to write some text here?" Mmm let's see! U're welcome!😉😂
One thing that should be mentioned about the currency - the rate changed quite a lot recently. I've already encountered several tourists who were desperately trying to find an exchange office which would give them 25 or 26 CZK for 1 euro 😄 These days you'll only get around 23.50 CZK for 1 euro. If someone offers you more than 24, then it's 100% a scam. Anyways it's always better to check the bank rate before exchanging.
I was in Czechia last autumn and just got a small amount of cash from an ATM (I had previously exchanged some CZK in Revolut). There were only two instances where I had to use cash: public transport in Olomouc (the ticket machines at the train station accept card payments, but most throughout the city don’t), and public toilets (the ones that are watched over by an elderly lady). This is actually true for most European countries I’ve visited recently (even Germany, which used to have a very bad reputation regarding card payment availability).
I'm absolutely adore the Public transport in Prague. I'm come all the way from Tel-Aviv. And i recommended every time when i be asked how to go to City center. I use all the time it's brilliant. And also travel one day trip to some other city like Brno, Budejce, ext... Love your show hope to meet u for a beer on xmass
💗Your videos and tips are invaluable. Prague is definitely on my bucket list. I'd spend time in Prague, but I'd want to go to places off the beaten path. Less tourist, more authentic.
Prague 2 (Vinohrady) and Prague 8 (Karlín) are good alternatives to the center. I live in Prague 3 (Žižkov) right on the edge of Prague 2 and I love it. So many great streets with local coffee places, restaurants, shops and parks.
@@simonp37 Wonderful. Thank you for your great advice! When ever I'm abroad I try to stay as far away from 'tourist' areas as possible. Even though there's absolutely things to see in them. We always look for and try and support little independent shops, etc.
Vysehrad Fortress - a place older than the whole of Prague, full of history. Also a cemetery of czech famous (Smetana, Dvorak, Mucha, Masopust etc. etc.) Botanical garden in the center. ZOO. Prague Islands. Or outside of Prague - lots of castles, chatteaus, nice places, simply acces not more 1hr away from Prague. Tap a finger on a map :-)
@@Kyk_cz Thanks you so much! All you wonderful people willing to share all these places! Ohhh... but you REALLY have me at castles! I'm a history NERD!
Can't believe I'm watching this again but at this time I'm on a train (almost there) to Prague. One of my dreams is coming through. I'll definitely use some tips mentioned in this video. Thanks Janek.
Fun thing is that I'm watching this video post-factum (*came back from Prague 2 weeks ago and can't wait to visit again). Crowns are easily found in Bulgaria (*just difficult to calculate how much you would need in advance, as I found out). So, can't wait to share some thoughts 😂 As for beer, I am a huge fan of Czech beer and I never thought I would have more than enough. I kinda had 😂😂😂 As for language, having a Slavic language as your native one (*Bulgarian in my case) really helps (*if you see things written). On trams - Bulgarian traffic law says that a tram always has the priority of move on a pedestrian crossing (*like, 20 t weight here 😂).
Years ago, I struggled to exchange dollars because they were written on by the markers that check for fake currency. No one wanted them because they were ''defaced'' 🙄 I honestly prefer Kofola to Cola, but I don't really like very sweet drinks, so mostly stick to water. Tell us how you really feel about those scooters 🤣🤣🤣
Last Sunday I was out with my schoolmates. We were on a side walk in Sokolská street and one idiot on this FUCKING GREEN SCOOTER screamed like: Uhni! (Get out of the way). I was a bit sleepy but if I wasn't he would be under a car in a second 💀:)). I totally hate those people. They think they're something more than us walking guys :))
Great video!! Just a note, the new bus to the airport is number 59! Changed March 2024, but it’s the same route same ticket.
UPDATE Regarding the airport transport! Our lovely bus number 119 doesn't go anymore. A few weeks ago they changed it and now there's a trolleybus number 59 !
Thank you!! Heading to Prague tomorrow and was wondering why the PID Litačka app didn't refer to the 119 bus but kept suggesting the 59, Děkuji!
Super, thank you. Are there ticket booths in airport?

@HONESTGUIDE Janek Hi 👋 I'm a Czech 🇨🇿 American 🇺🇸 and in Chicago there is a neighborhood called Pilsen . It is because the people who came over , my family included were Czech 🇨🇿 ❤️. My family opened a tavern 🍺 there ❤️. Just fyi for you ❤️ Can't wait to visit Czechia 🇨🇿 I wish my grandparents were still alive to see how beautiful Prage and how Czechia is now .
Much love from Nebraska,

Can 💯 recommend a visit to Czech Republic (and the Honest Guides)
If you need any tips or help with the language, I would gladly help you
I didn't get to know my grandparents, but they were both from Moravia.
Shout out to Nebraska and Texas for keeping little bits of Czech culture alive in the US

I absolutely love Prague's public transport. I love how far some of the bus and metro lines reach.
@@Schacal6666 huh
Every country should have a channel like yours, much respect!
We always take in a classical music concert in Prague.
best food in Europe ? Sure you are american..
Prague or Praha.
I arrived in Prague 3 days ago due to an emergency with no time to do ANY research and came across your videos after arriving. THANK YOU!!! Funny, informative, and very helpful. So glad I found them.
Prague is the only major European city I’ve visited and as much as I want to visit other cities I’m dying to go back
Do you have any nightclub recommendations?
Well yea ofc. Its Czech Republic, not a third world country.
same for Asian banks? i will add Prague on my trip next month. quite worried with monetary situation idk of exchange or withdraw
Beautiful architecture and so much of it!!!! But also crowded even in fall amd anbit dirty with too much graffiti.
At some point, Honest Guide would become a tourist spot for Prague as well
So far out of all the European capitals I've been to, Prague remains my favorite.
11:46 as prague tram driver I love this tip! Thanks guys for mention!!

Gluten free top tips: in the supermarkets, there is a traditional honey cake made gluten free (Marlenka brand) absolutely delicious!

Love that!
if you are German, you can drink on public, these laws are valid only for Americans and Brits and homeless persons 😀
I would say this law I something like leverage law (similar to loitering in US) police will look away if you don’t make mess.
Slight notes, as of sept.2023.
- walk, everywhere, you'll find nice places along the way
- there were ~3 places that did not accept card
- don't worry about water, just drink beer, haven't had water in 5 days. Didn't get drunk.
- be careful of taxis, they think of themselves as trams and hardly ever stop at crosswalk
Everything else I agree with.
That's true. Although it's also true that locals never know what accommodation to recommend.

Paris banned scooters and I hope Prague will do the same.
Thank you Janek and Honza for another helpful video about Prague!
They should be in car lane and obey the rules . We have them in US cities total pain in the arse because they are on sidewalks 🙄

Nějaký čas jsem nevěděla Jankovo video v angličtině. Ta vyslovnost je skok. Good job!!!
Kámoška se pro to je dlouhá
I am coming to Prague in a couple of days with my wife. I've watched tons of your videos, and planed most of our trip based on them.
If you want Czech Crowns, go to Billa, Globus, Mc Donald's. They accept Euro and change in Crowns for a good rate.
I think the Honest Guide did exactly that in McDonald's at the airport, instead of using the exchange place 😀
This is fake news! The rate on which they will give you your money back in CZK is extremely bad for you, you´ll lose hundreds of crowns on a bigger exchange. Don ´t ever do it!
if you want to die fast, buy a bread with 100 eur banknote 😀
I used revolut, I stayed in the liberec region so was constantly crossing the polish border spending in zlotys, koruna and euros, sometime different currencies each day. There are other companies but these top up exchange cards are by far the best
I miss Kofola,, it has really unique taste can't really describe it. Sadly you cant get that here.
Fun fact ''Molo'' is used as an synonym for male '' private parts'' in Finnish, people in Bratislava were wondering why i smile like an idiot when i saw restaurant with that name.
There are villages in Czechia, whose names seems to be funny even to us. It's innocent, centuries back it had different meaning, but in today's language it's Řitka - Little butthole 49.8945143N, 14.2992329E , or Pičín - The Cunt town 49.7453542N, 14.0577494E :D
so penis and balls are molo in Finnish?
this is the best site I have come across yet ..I am planning a trip and the information is very useful and just what a tourist needs to be prepared.
I need to know he same Thing. I have seen videos on this. I need a place for a month, October
Try booking or air bnb
facebook market place
Have found a place to stay? Also need suggestions for a group of 4 😊
I'm coming this Sunday - I've been watching your videos for about 3 years now. Good job fellas...
13:26 the little "comment" under the video says:
I wonder if someone will freeze frame this and will actually try to read this. See, I'm sitting here by my computer and I'm wondering like "Hey I'd it actually necessary to write some text here?" Mmm let's see!
U're welcome!😉😂
Yes u are right!
😉
I love Praha... Greetings from Argentina!!!
Yeah just type cnb in your google and the first link coming out should be the link to the Czech national bank and it shows the daily rates
I've been twice to Praha in the last 6 months and your videos did help me immensely! Keep up the good work, dèkuji! ❤
Perfect timing! Im going in a couple of months! I mean, ive already watched all your other videos but this was a nice summary video. Thanks alot!
Great guide Janek, very useful as I'm taking my son to Prague for 4 days in October. Thanks for such a great guide.
Also a cemetery of czech famous (Smetana, Dvorak, Mucha, Masopust etc. etc.)
Botanical garden in the center.
@@simonp37 are most areas in Prague close to the city centre for travellers intending to walk only?
Can't believe I'm watching this again but at this time I'm on a train (almost there) to Prague. One of my dreams is coming through. I'll definitely use some tips mentioned in this video. Thanks Janek.
We Stan a Verified Honest Guide.
Fun thing is that I'm watching this video post-factum (*came back from Prague 2 weeks ago and can't wait to visit again). Crowns are easily found in Bulgaria (*just difficult to calculate how much you would need in advance, as I found out). So, can't wait to share some thoughts 😂
As for beer, I am a huge fan of Czech beer and I never thought I would have more than enough. I kinda had 😂😂😂
As for language, having a Slavic language as your native one (*Bulgarian in my case) really helps (*if you see things written).
On trams - Bulgarian traffic law says that a tram always has the priority of move on a pedestrian crossing (*like, 20 t weight here 😂).
going to beautiful Prag in 3 weeks, my fifth time :) love Prauge , and when I see your clips , just wanted to go there even more !
Great video. I usually visit Prague once or twice a year and love it every time!
Most people here in Prague hates those scooters...
Going next week because of this channel!
