    I've been near deaf 20 yrs! and I just got hearing aids and my world is so much better now!! I can hear the birds outside etc! So I don't know how loud my hearing sids should really be! Hearing is a new thing for me!

    I wish these ear plugs had been around (and/or that I had known about them) a couple months ago. I suffered an acute noise induced hearing loss in my left ear shooting at an indoor range while wearing earmuffs designed for shooting protection. I hadn't realized the earmuffs weren't quite snug enough against my head on the left. I got fitted for hearing aids about a week ago (after finding a local provider who does real ear measurement). I got a more aggressive pair of earmuffs and learned to test them before going into the shooting bay, and was able to attend a shooting class I had scheduled, without any issues. Hearing aids are great, but being paranoid about protecting your your hearing in the first place is even better (and cheaper).

    After acquiring tinnitus from earplugs I would never advise a person to use them. I had used them 100s of times with no issues. One, yes one brief exposure to a few gunshots ruined my right ear. Always use over the ear muffs.

    If you have tinnitus, would this actually intensify the perception of tinnitus due to the reduced surrounding sounds? For me, because of tinnitus, whenever I wear an ear plug, I hear more tinnitus. However, I do agree this is a great product for people without tinnitus.

    On the strength of your recommendation, I have tried the phonac music earplugs. On the plus side, I will say that their very mild attenuation provides clear music perception. The attenuation is definitely mild, however. The hum of the dehumidifier is very notable alongside the music. But unfortunately, even the small does not fit my adult ears properly. I think the real problem is the disc-shaped filter. I think in order for them to make a true small/x-small/kids they would have to provide a smaller version of the filter itself.
    For me, the material is also itchy. Since my ears are different sizes and shapes (the right ear canal seems unable to straighten completely), the left ear is more agreeable to the phonac plugs than the right ear. The right ear hurts right away basically, while it takes a while for a light ache to develop in the other ear. I could see someone with my ears using these briefly for a musical performance, but I wish that I had not made the investment.
    For me, the cheaper SilentEar and QuietEar do very nicely (better than phonac, I think) in my left ear but are not tolerated well at all in the right. Alpine Pluggies children’s earplugs are the best so far with no itch or pain while sitting up and moderate attenuation that is too little for some purposes and too much for others. I’ve also tried various foams with very limited success. Still searching-I have audio sensitivities in addition to sensitive ear tissues. HTH

    You see but I *can* stay in my house and avoid places. Im autistic and mostly deaf. What little hearing I have is in 1 ear and the sound is distorted and painful. So I keep an earplug in every day. The one I use is Surefire ep5 closed. It is the only one without that sound you get from others from accidentally touching it

    Off topic: I would LOVE for you to do a video on the various low battery sounds that hearing aids make. About..12 years ago, I had one that would make a chime sound. At first I was like hey did you guys hear that sound? *confusion.gif* What sound? At first I thought I was losing my mind. My newest one which needs to be replaced at this point talks. Sounds like it says MMM Low battery. I wish I could show my friends/family what they sound like.

What does one do when wearing aids and needing protection such as at a concert? do you not wear your aids and wear protection or is there protection to wear over aids?

    Those peak reductions wearing ear plugs for gunfire are insane, but isn't 110 dB and higher really dangerous already for the ears? Wouldn't you get hearing loss anyways with these dB intensities?

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course! Anything loud is potentially dangerous for hearing. However, protecting your hearing reduces that risk. It comes down to your level of risk tolerance in these situations. Refer to the OSHA or NIOSH permissible noise levels as a reference for how much noise is too much noise.

    I would like to attend concerts again once the coronavirus subsides , I will wear ear plugs of course , but most filtered ear plugs filter about to 28 decibles , which if I am doing my math correctly it brings it down to 95 decibles from 100 which can still be dangerous , and you can only be around it for at least an hour before hearing gets hurt. It is expensive to go to concerts and I would like to be able to enjoy a full show with out worrying that my hearing will get effected more so then it already has. What do I do ?. Do I just use foam plugs or are there other ear plugs that I can use that will give me higher decible reduction but with that music clarity
