In particular, how long a manufacturer will support a model once it is discontinued. So it's probably worth buying a relatively new model for a longer service life.

In general, the experience is similar to being trapped in a big sack with boulders rolling around. Every massage chair I have ever attempted to use has left me with bruises. One broke a bone in my foot once and another dislocated my left shoulder. The closest I have come to relaxing in any was one I tried at a mall and it had a one mode that was a nice over all vibration. The worst is the one that crushed my feet while rolling rock like objects up and down my spine. I was trapped in one that I had to dial 911 because I could not escape. For reference I am 5 feet 9 inches tall and weigh about 180 lbs so typical for an adult male. I know some people swear by them. This person swears at them.

Because its not rock like objects. Its rubberized rollers that pulse, squeeze, shake , and massage in and out and up and down. If the experience was really like being trapped in a big sack with boulders rolling around they wouldn't be relaxing or popular. Some people love a Roller coaster and others wouldn't be caught dead on one.
I suffer from a strong sciatica pain on the left leg, i tried my self all these chairs we reviewed, they are all amazing but none of these can cure or help with the sciatica. But they are great to relax in and you do feel very nice after you have used the chair....

A massage chair may help to relax but it will not resolve the issue you have with your neck.
