My friend had a Caparison TAT Frozen Sky, a model they discontinued in 2012. It was so beautiful I dreamed of it for years and then suddenly he said he's selling it and we came to a very decent deal. It was unlike any other guitar and I don't know what exactly does it, but it does still, 10 years later, feel like a 3000e guitar it is, compared to my other guitars. It also has the asymmetric neck that's something I had never experienced before, surprisingly thick but comfortable. Or maybe I do know why it feels like a 3000e guitar. Hand painted individually unique finish, every millimetre of it was apparently finished with dedication. All the hardware is quality and set exactly where they should be, it's so easy to adjust in maintenance. Also it has confusingly loud sound when played acoustically and has this oomph that feels odd from neck-thru guitar with floating bridge (the Schaller also feels like heavy machinery, I love it better than any other floyd I've had). I don't even have to work when tapping. It plays like butter. I also thought it was quite dark with the Caparison pickups, but then I played it through a loud amp and it was actually balancing out the amp just nicely. Furthermore it has the low mid growl, that very enjoyable crisp and balls that my any other instrument doesn't have. It's so enjoyable to play lower tunings with or do those intervals that trick the ear to hear a lower note because of that tonal quality. The HSS humbuckers with splits also provide surprisingly fine single coil tones. It's like a sample of craftmanship. I have 10-52 strings in D (tuned down from E without changing a set) and noticed it, like you said, really does behave well with light strings on lower tunings. And the strings are ages old already, but the last time I tuned it was probably a year or two ago. I don't understand it, the strings at least should give up the tuning.
I would've never thought to own such an expensive guitar or notice the difference, but having it makes me very happy because I can admire every inch of it even if I'm not playing it. All of my other guitars ranging from 200 to 1200 euros have at least something that I can point out "well this wasn't made with dedication and desire to present me the best guitar their hands have touched, you can tell this is just another product on the line". Having it in my hands convinces me that it in fact justifies its price which I would have never expected. I actually have a labor of love, a show piece of craftmanship in my hands, something more than just a functional instrument, an art piece almost. It is the one that I will never part ways with, I wouldn't be able to bear the fact that I could never again feel it.
No surprise Michael Romeo and Mattias Eklundh play Caparison.

A lot of bands I loved in the early 2000's were playing Caparison back then- Ola Frenning and Peter Wichers of Soilwork had deals (really underrated players). Also Michael Romeo, KSE back then (and again in recent years), Evergrey, At the Gates. More I'm sure I'm missing. I've wanted one for a long time but I just can't justify the price for a new one and finding a used one in Canada is nearly impossible. I've often heard that ESP, Ibanez, Jackson are similar quality (the Japanese made ones). I love the headstocks and body shapes most of all, they have the ultimate looks for a metal-oriented guitar.

I own two Caparison TAT Special 7s, and an Orbit 7 CZQ.
    Caparison makes amazing guitars.
Theyre ridiculous, top notch build quality and components. PERFECT fretwork. Their neck profiles are some of the most comfortable out there, I find them more comfortable for fast shreddy stuff than the Ibanez wizard/prestige necks.
Also, every Caparison I've played is insanely loud acoustically, and that really shines through when plugged in and playing tapped harmonics, pinch harnonics, or popping harmonics with the bar like Dimebag.
Overall, I think Caparison makes some of the best guitars available anywhere.

I've always been interested in Caparison guitars after I saw a Walnut Horus model, I think 2 years ago I blindly bought a Caparison Horus off of Reverb and it turned out to be one of my favorite guitars ever. I mostly played the early 90's Japanese Jackson's so the neck was probably a bit chunkier than the usual slim Jackson necks but It didn't bother me at all.

  • @PaulEubanks
    @PaulEubanks ปีที่แล้ว

The difference in cost among guitar brands is baffling to me. They're all using mostly the same sorts of hardware and design, probably sourcing their lumber from the same handful of sawmills, and you have Eart at the bottom end selling pretty damn good guitars for $400, and then you have other manufacturers at the "top end" selling for 10x that, and is there really 10x a difference in quality? I don't think so. Super strat guitars (with few exceptions) are all basically commodity hardware at this point, similar to Android phones; but half of Android manufacturers aren't charging $4,000+ for a phone. Maybe it comes down to labor costs in the country of manufacture?

As someone who’s lived in Japan a few years, played Caparison, owned 2 Gibson LP Customs, and a J. Custom and Prestige’s, Ibanez defines quality and consistency in the guitar biz in comparison to Gibson and other US makers (leaving PRS alone, they’re definitely on point IMHO). Caparison, Sugi, and a few others along with Ibanez all come out of the same Nagano area of Japan. The Chushin-Gakki (Caparison factory) and FujiGen (Ibanez) are like right next to each other in Japan. I’d say certain Ibanez Prestige guitars are right on par with the 3.9k Caparison. Maybe wood selection is what’s offsetting the price, both guitars feel like a high end sports car in lap

My old friend and coworker Rob Marcello had a deal with Caparison guitars and he seemed to love them, but I hated every one of them he let me play cuz the necks were very square & rectangular, like even way moreso than Ibanez or Epiphone necks. It just felt very weird to me, like they were going for some kind of super squared off flat wide classical radius type neck and fingerboard on a super strat shred guitar. I just couldn't get on with it.

The review itself is basically nothing. Fluff needs to do actual reviews, I keep hoping he'll get better but he never does. Saying a guitar feels good over and over is not a review. "It feels expensive because it's expensive" is not a real review. You have a 4k guitar in your hands and couldn't really find anything to say about it that was useful.

My impression of Caparison guitars are that they're simply built to perfection. There's lots of more affordable guitars with the exact same specs, but most of them usually have some kind of flaw in the neck, frets, finish or whatever. I guess that's just the difference in factory guitars vs custom shop guitars. You are paying more than twice the price to get a flawless guitar, not just a more spec'd out one.

Some will say I shouldn't have traded the 800 but I spent a year with it and couldn't get super happy with it. Ended up with a bogner but back to the guitar. Enjoy it! The “real nice car” description makes perfect sense. When you have a quality made object, regardless of what it is, they feel solidly built. Nothing is loose, zero tolerances, everything is super responsive. Everyone has something to say about guitars over the 4K price point, and for the most part there does seem to be diminished return after say the 2.5k price point, but that extra something is definitely there. You’re getting all the materials hand selected, hand made, in countries that pay the workers well. I think everyone should save up some money and get a custom shop caliber guitar, even if you’re just a bedroom player but serious about playing. Even if it takes two or three years to save to the money. Just don’t go out to a bar less or buy one less quarter of weed a month…. Everyone has something the buy regularly they can do without. Quitting drinking enabled me to save enough to get one. If I can do it, anyone can.

I was shopping for a PRS (my Birthday present actually) and the store had a used Caparison Dillinger Prominence. It was about $2k and I just couldn't say no. It just played soooooo darn well that I had to get it!!! The stock pickups sound great. The bridge PU is great for harmonics and squeals. It also gets fantastic in-between strat sounds. The neck feels like a thicker Jackson Soloist- kind of a D shape with comfy shoulders and that nice compound radius. The inlays are also cool AF. Congrats on your new guitar. I LOVE mine :D

ALWAYS wanted/want one of these, but I’m a Civil Servant and our pay sucks. Could never afford one.
    My gross is gross…

I blame Evergrey and KSE for this being my dream guitar. I have yet to hear a bad recording with them. And speaking of recordings, HOLY CRAP THAT FULL MIX EXAMPLE SLAMS. Joel would approve. Adam would probably start running around with a cape while screaming random profanity.

I had a Caparison Horus (Jackson Falcon) awhile back. Traded it for an Ibanez Egen18TVF. Miss it sometimes.

Michael Romeo has a signature Caparison. Caparison is made in Japan. So you know it's very high quality.
Out of my price-range tho. But I do like them.
