I've gotten to meet and become a friend of Bobby's, and he's as amazing of a person as he is a drummer. I've seen him live with Fates Warning a few times and he's the real deal. It's mind boggling what he does live. It's expert drumming precision at it's greatest, and he's a beast in many genres. He is also now drumming for Country legend George Strait.
1:00-2:35 Is just pure double bass INSANITY ! I don't care if you're Marco, Thomas, Vinnie, Carter, Cobham or Gartska...Bobby's DB execution is in a league of its own.
@@undeRWorld-AirsofT Matt was 8 yrs old when Bobby and his brother Ron released Spastic ink. Matt is definitely one of my favs, but even if he's never heard of Bobby he's been influenced by the Jarzombek's.
At first time I saw Bobby when was looking for some drumming school to learn a bit. Then Bobby become my favorit progressive style drummer. I like how he plays with bass and lead guitars melody, like how he builds patterns.I like how he accenting and emphasizes almost every note in melody by cymbals, hats, etc...Just brilliant drumming for me. After Bobby I find out another man who play also amazing in similar style Johnny Sandin from Seventh Wonder. But Bobby always will be the Top 1 for me. Cause he sharing his skills as sun is sharing the light and heat :) Thank you Bobby!
Sandin is awesome, as are Seventh Wonder as a whole. Jarzombek can pull off anything you throw at him, it really doesn't matter. One with the instrument.
I've seen 5 or 6 different videos from Bobby J in the last 20 minutes and let me just say... Dammmm each new song is better then the next! Different bands different years but everything jams!!!
If Brent SMedley ever leaves Iced Earth again, I would love to see Bobby do an album with them. His work on Demons & Wizaards' "Touched by the Crimson King" was awesome!
Damn Bobby, you're awesome !!! :o I really like your finess in this kind of music, not easy, but you do it with subtility, and your choice of cymbals played is always the best in moment where you it them, respect.
Don't care too much for this band as I do Fates Warning. Maybe I'm too old, but thanks to them I'd watch anything you played. You are such an amazing drummer. You've been blessed my friend. Had to subscribe to you
Sheesh, Bobby...why are you such a GOD on drums??! PLEASE record some drum lessons for us all. I would love to hear your thoughts on your playing open handed or just some of your favourite (British spelling ;) double bass licks?! Please keep inspiring me, mate! Rob
Ride doesn't move enough to hit the hi-hat, and vice versa. Having both of them next to each other is actually super convenient, so easy to go between ride and HH.
I just noticed, on top of the left hand lead you also lead with your left foot! You've sold me on the left hand lead technique but I don't think I would switch to a left foot as the master. You're an amazing drummer man!
yep, he still always leads fills with his right hand though. Can only play the HH pedal with the left foot in open/closed grooves like that at 0:48is, etc as well.
He doesn't lead with his left foot, all those single foot patterns are executed that way because those notes are placed where you usually would hit with your left foot if you were playing straight 16th notes, as opossed to play all single foot patterns with your leading foot (I guess you're right handed/footed), when looking at a common 4/4 pattern subdivided in 16th notes, most drummers verbalize it by counting 1-e-N-a-2-e-N-a-3-e-N-a-4-e-N-a... and so on, so the right foot hit the beats 1,2,3,4 and the "N's", and the left foot hits all the "e's" and the "a's", playing that way comes natural for some drummers (like myself, but I'm completely left handed/footed, so I play the other way around), try to play some odd double bass patterns that way, I guarantee you it helps a LOT, regards!
Aldo Hernandez This is true, I didn't mean to imply he ALWAYS leads with his left. However, if you watch this video where they show the pedal work, you can clearly see Bobby leads certain patterns with his LEFT foot....it's obvious in the video. I've been playing drums for over 40 years, played in school from 4th grade through high school, played in many bands professionally, and even took some lessons at Indiana University while I was studying chemistry. I do know what I'm seeing in the video.
This reminds me of what would have happened if they combined Dangerous Toys and Watchtower into one band :). Speaking of which - I need to hear some Instruments of Random Murder. It's been too long!
I noticed you use some kind of custom sticker on the batter kick drum head, could you please tell what is it and why you make custom one and don't use one of regular evans bass drum patch? thank you for your help and inspiration
If I had to take a guess, I would say that it is a piece of paper duct taped to the kick drum head for an added punch. I have done this just messing around, and it works pretty well. If you leave a little slack in the paper, it adds quite a bit of high end punch that cuts through the mix. Not sure if Bobby is doing it for that reason...
One of the best ever...

Bobby's the freaking MAN for sure, just wish he improvised a little bit more... the parts he writes are definitely awesome though.

My best fave progmet drummer in the first drumming revolutionary era development since Riot and Fates Warning, and offcourse till now
