I ride over there every chance I get. I was there the very day it opened. When it opened there was a foot tall walkway down the middle of the covered parking area. There was a lower kitchen then,down the ramp on the rightside of the building, but it got phased out. I asked Mary about it, she said the kitchen was all there, just not used. Do you remember Mary? There was another woman there, they both worked there when it opened until they retired, she and Mary were close friends. I know her name, do you?
Before "Race City USA", Mooresville was known as "Port City of Lake Norman". I lived there from birth (1953) until 1971when I got married. I can remember when There was no Lake Norman. Where the water is today, cattle fed on the lower parts of the fields. There are many places where the water has covered what would be known today as "Historical Landmarks". If you want to visit Mooresville, be prepared for long waits in traffic, paying double or triple the price of goods. The What A Burger is the best hamburger place in Mooresville, it has not changed very much since it opened, prices there are decent.
Amazing seeing what the Farms looked like before Duke power built the dam. Somewhere in the lake, boaters could see the church steeple before it collapsed years ago.
