    The last couple of times I've camped around Alexander Darwall's house. Last month we even can a group camping with 9 tents all around his property, sadly non of us idiots bothered to bring a drone, I would have been a master shot!

    • @SummitOrNothing
      @SummitOrNothing  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Well, as much as that sounds like a great idea, sadly that sort of thing will probably only give him more fuel to defend against the appeal. For starters, Dartmoor camping should only be small groups, drones are not allowed etc.. all things that he can show the judge which could end up making matters a lot worst. Besides, I couldn't think of a more boring place to camp on Dartmoort than by his estate. Just get to some nice places, enjoy the moor responsibly and help the fight by treating the moor right.

    Glad I found this again. I’m off to Okehampton train station from Basingstoke on Saturday to wild camp on Dartmoor. I’ve still not decided where to pitch but I’ll watch this again on the train. Firing times checked. Likely Rowtor, simply because it’s closer to the road and to the station for my return Sunday, although I don’t need to worry about the car. Thanks for this bible of info Trev.

    Visited Great Mis Tor for the first time last week. Can’t believe I’ve never been before! Guess I’ve always dismissed it as being too close to a road to for getting the feeling of isolation I like. How wrong I was. Being able to see so far in to the north moor, including Fur Tor, Great Links and the high moor on the eastern slopes of the West Okement Valley, gave a massive sense of remoteness. All this combined with only 20 minutes walk is madness! Great video as always, Trev

    • @SummitOrNothing
      @SummitOrNothing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, Great Mis is an awesome tor. Plenty of choice of places to pitch too. It's a bit of a stomp up from Roos Tor side though, as Nath and I learnt the hard way.

    lovely collection - i might add Cosden (cracking view especially sunrises - crap for water) Fir - lots of choices but a bit of a hike, Higher White Tor (really fine views and quiet - lots to do around there) and possibly one of the woods - Piles being the quietest with lots of ancient sites. Don't know whether you've tried many multi day routes but well worth it, 2 or 3 nights gives a whole new feeling to the scenery you pass through, and the choices are almost endless. anyhow, keep on making the vids, it inspires lazy gits like me to dust off the camping gear

    Few new ideas for me there Trev. I agree Great Mis Tor is superb, but just across the road is King's Tor. Loads of flat pitches with shelter from all directions, you can also see Foggintor Quarry on the way. I've taken my 3 grand daughters to different tors and rivers, West Okement near Black-a-tor copse is great. I took one to Pew Tor and really struggled to find a flat pitch.

    Hi Trev, great vid as usual 👍👍
    Thanks very much for sharing.
    Very informative.
    I’d be coming from Dorset, so Bovey Tracey and Buckfastleigh area would be ideally a starting point.
    I know about the Abbey Way, but don’t fancy 22miles on my first trip😂😂.
    Have you done any camps on that side of the moor?
    Just had a look at the map, I could go north heading towards Okehampton, probably not much different in time or distance than buckfastleigh.
    Also (apologies for all the questions) can you camp on the cairns? Are they archeological? Or haunted 😉
    Ever had any trouble leaving your car overnight?
    Really looking forward to getting down that way, though probably not the best weather for a first time wildcamp 😂
    Thanks again😊

      Hi Andy. Thanks for watching. Not done a lot over the buckfastleigh side of the moor to be honest, neither hiking or camping, but Oke area is well worth a visit. Lots to explore there. The cairns and archaeological sites are best not to camp at, as they are historic sites, but you can camp quite ear to a lot of them. Not seen a ghost yet, but I do keep an eye out lol. Bell tor was my favourite, would have gone with honeybag but so much animal poo! 😂 going out again in a few weeks, so much choice!

      Haha! Yea - often plenty of animal scat around lol. Bell Tor is a good tor too. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Trev. Great video as always suggesting some great spots BUT…… under the new “dispute” Kings Tor is no longer permissive camping 🤬 Worth people checking the DNPA map if they wish to wild camp legally and openly.

      Yea, Pew Tor isn't there either now, and that's featured in this list. I do tell people to check the map in the video though, as I'm sure you saw when you watched it

      @@SummitOrNothing Pew Tor, really? FFFFFS🤬 It’s ok for people who can yomp into the moor and “hide” but I really feel empathy for those who cannot and have now lost that freedom of wild camping legally on Dartmoor

      @@DartmoorPaul I was planning on Kings Tor this weekend, so thanks for the info. Can you recommend any Tors that would be good to camp (in the map) as a novice please ?

      As long as it's dry, it's a great little spot!
