    I had the Mitas E07 on my F800GS Adv for 13k miles, now I have the K60 Scout's. The Scout's are way more noisy on the tarmac and too stiff. I think I'm going back to Mitas when I finish this set of K60's.

    I’ve got about 7000 on mine on an Africa Twin. It’s been a great tire for me except in the mud, where’s it’s been atrocious. Sand, gravel, asphalt - very good. Mud - hopeless. So much so that I’m changing them out before my next off road trip. I agree with the review with that exception though.

    I find these spin out in mud and slippery terrain really easily, for the trails around here I prefer an open block in the center like the shinko 805s or Anakee Wilds.

    I used to love the Cont TKC80, but I burned through a set every year. I've switched to the K60 Heidenau and am very pleased. I get twice the life out of these K60 tires, and the traction is very acceptable, a nice all around true 50/50 tire. Good in rocks, gravel, dry dirt, and not bad in sand. Road manors are just fine. Expect to relearn the correct tire pressures, especially coming from TKC80s. The K60 has a strong stiff sidewall and lower tire pressures are called for.

    2004 BMW R1150GS, two sets of Heidenau K60’s, total 26,000 miles with no scares, but bit of noise from the front tire when pressure is too low. Conditions include rain, snow covered highway, frosty highway, dry roads. Everyone appears to have varying results. These are mine.

    Another great video. I had these on my Africa Twin and they are very scary on the wet tarmac! 5K miles and the rear was shot. Have Shanko 705's and love them.

    I've got them on my quite modified (for terrain use) Kawasaki KLE500. Love them. Loads of grip on all surfaces, nice feel and I trust them. Recommended!

    Great video, like always! Controversial topic on many biker forums, as a lot of riders are entrenched in their subjective perception of a tire. On the other hand, if a tire makes you feel better and gives you more confidence for your purposes, subjective perception is your answer.
    One of the most respected tire experts in the riding community in Germany / Austria, rewarded 1st Place to Heidenau K60 Scout in 60/40 category. He praised it as an all-rounder with great performance in cold and wet weather which is something I am looking for.
    Once the stock T7 Pirelli Rally STR are done, I will try these tires. I see them as all-rounders, with good performance in dry / wet / cold / mud / grass. Heidenau K60 Scout (64€ / 111€), Bridgestone Adventurecross AX 41 (90€ / 101€) and Michelin Anakee Wild (85€ / 130€). Prices are for 90/90R21 front and 150/70R18 rear.

    That's a nice video. unfrotunately I don't do long distanceadventure trips more often thsn every 4 - 6 years....
    Anyway, the K60scout: A great tire! I was riding Germany - Nepal sing it; about 13000 km. It was good for 'bout 3000 km back home.
    From below sea-level up to Ak Baital, -3 C to 50 C degrees, on smooth highways, washboard, gravel. Scorched by the sun or 3 days in a downpour. K60s never let'S you down...... but: It cannot deal with mud at all, at least when it's a few 1000 km old.
    Anything else? No worries! Compared to the old K60 (the "no scout" version) it's much better on wet roads (=tarmac), but, as I mentioned: Mud, doesn't have to be deep, isn't the K60scouts' terrain.
    After about 10000 km the front tire starts getting noisy and viby. Happened on KTM 640 Adv, KTM 1090 AdvR & BMW F 800 GS.

      Yea, that center-strip makes the rear last so much longer, but wouldn't it be more accurate to say "in mud, especially once used, obviously the performance isn't so good?" Such would be true for all tires, really. ---- Thanks for sharing. Glad you're getting some good global coverage out there :)

    So helpful review! I do ride in a cold to very cold conditions for at least three months a year. I was ready to order a pair of Scout, but your honesty makes me wonder about a better option. I’m thinking Shanko 705’s... Thank you, mate!

    I like them I live in sw NM. It's ROCKY here and they have stood up to a tremendous amount of abuse. I have also used them as run flat unknowingly... imagine my surprise when I check my pressure and it's 0 bit I didn't crash in that last 10 miles!

      John Q, yea, picturing just a few thorns and/or cactus spines laying around. The likes of which, can lead to further encounters with such in your part of the world. Especially if it's cold out, that tire carcass can stay nice and firm. Thanks for sharing.

    I am a long distance rider on my Africa Twin. I have been using the k60 on the rear for years, I totally agree with everything you say about the tire.

    I used the K60 front and rear on my 1290 SA on two different trips to Alaska from Iowa. Both times the rear tires were shot by 5000 miles. Changed on the first trip in Fairbanks after a trip up to Prudoe Bay. Changed on the second trip in Anchorage. Both at about the same mileage. I used the Mitas 07+ on my 790 for a Continental Divide trip. The rear tire was at the wear bars when I returned to Iowa. Right at 6000 miles. The rear performed well in the various conditions that I encountered. I hated the front, it tried to follow every tar snake on the road.

      Interesting.
      I am planning a trip from Vancouver to Deadhorse and Tuktoyatuk for 2023 on my old trusty 2007 GS, and with all those the gravel roads I was considering the Heidenau K60.
      Given I always feather the throttle, do you believe they could last the 7000 miles / 11000 km?
      Or should I plan my tire change further up north?

      Did this same trip on my 2005 1200 GS and tire lasted entire trip. Agree that only downside was crappy performance in mud, otherwise great tire.

      I’ve had the K60 on multiple bikes……S10, 1290 SAR, S10 again, Africa Twin AS and have gotten an easy 20000 kms on each bike. The 1290 had the most wear at the 20000 km mark but still had a few thousand kms left but I swapped it for a new one due to a 5000 km trip I was leaving for. I just rode 6 hours in heavy rain through eastern Ontario and Quebec on the ATAS with 17000 kms on the K60 with no drama. I don’t care what tire I am riding on, if it is raining I ride accordingly.

      Forgot to mention the front…….have put about 30000 kms on a few of them but then sold the bikes so I am not sure how long they will last. I don’t foresee me getting rid of the ATAS so I should know their mileage in the next couple years. Hoping to get 35-40000 kms. Have 20k on the front and rear now.

    I’ve used the k60 scout with good success and have had the issues Eric has mentioned. My rear tire flattened out and the front cupped pretty badly. When they were new they were great! Also have used the Shinko 804/805 combo and they are really nice dirt tires and more grippy in the wet than the k60s. Currently using the Dunlop Trailmax Mission and was amazed at how well they perform in sand! I’ve never felt as confident on soft loose surfaces. That said, they do not clear clay-y mud all that well but no 50-50 clears that kinda mud all that well. Got about 2000 miles on them and they are showing no wear at all.

    Accurate assessment, but with Dunlop’s Trailmax Mission tire on the market now, I don’t see why you’d want this anymore unless you really need 15K miles out of your tire on a super long overseas trip.
    I just changed a Trailmax Mission rear at 8K miles on my 1290 SAS (not known for being kind to tires), but only because I had another 1K miles back home. In hind sight, the TM rear probably had enough left to make it home. I still have the front mounted with 9K miles, and it looks like it still has at least another 2-3K left in it. The front frankly barely looks worn.
    With this longevity I really don’t feel like I’m sacrificing much on road grip, including plenty of wet weather miles. I would much rather have the wet pavement performance of the TM tire, and sacrifice a couple thousand miles of wear life, IMHO.

      Good tire for dry and street comfort as you can see from the profile, but not for wet / muddy conditions. There are better options for me like Heidenau K60 Scout, Bridgestone Adventurecross AX 4 and Michelin Anakee Wild. At the end it depends what kind of trails you ride. Also, I believe this tire was introduced as 50/50 but is more like a 60 or 70.

      @@restless_soulism agree that it’s a personal choice and one should get the tire they feel fits their needs and riding style.
      However, don’t sleep on the TM tire. It’s a true 50-50. It can do mud, but certainly isn’t its strength. The side lugs on the tire help it in the mud more than you’d think, even when the grooves do fill up with mud. Can’t argue though that the AX41, etc. with their true knobs will handle mud much better.

      @@jaronard1 I am not a tire expert, but there are some good respected sources in Germany / Austria that are not sponsored by companies. They do ride the tires extensively over a period of time. The general verdict is that the TM is an excellent tire, doing great on dry, gravel and street. They all refer to it as a 60-70 tire which is not a bad thing. As you know, new generation tires have extended their road and off-road capabilities, there is a lot of overlapping now.
      For example, Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR is an excellent 70/80 tire that does very well on off-road, dry and gravel. The exclusive old norms are not applicable anymore. Most of the top tires, do excellent on dry and gravel. There are as I understand none that can do both dry and wet perfectly. But I am looking for tires, that reach the highest possible on wet without compromising the dry.
      I am planning an around the world trip for about 2 years or more. I need tires that work in central Asia, cold weather, mud, and wet grass. I can’t go below 50/50, as I am also going to ride some tarmac. At the end, I will buy all those tires above and make my own experience. At the end, the subjective feeling and security are the best arguments. Have fun and stay safe!

      I replaced the k60s that came on my BMW R1200GSA with Dunlop Trailmax Missions. I don’t do 10000 mile trips (I live in Idaho...) and I found the hidenaus to be a little slippery on hot tar snakes in Hells Canyon

    I use them in my 800 since y discoverer them an I have to say tat have an unexpected grip in wer tarmac. I changed the last ones with more than 23k Km. and no problems.

    Havent riden with Eric in south America, I can vouch for his honest opinion. I have had 2 sets for my BMW800GSA and and got me to the arctic twice and back. a great 50/50 tire for most fire roads and black top. not a great tire for jeep trails as the solid center strip does not work well in mud, leaves or really wet conditions. good bang for the dollar as I have got 12,000 miles from each of my tires.

    They were great off-road but I stopped running them because the road performance wasn't great, I found them slippery on wet pavement and noisy on the highway. If I was doing more off than on road they would be good choice.

      Great that you sampled them, and made what looks like a sound/honest decision that it wasn't the best for your riding. Especially considering just how very, very good even some 80/20 pavement/dirt tires can be in the dirt.....(especially if dry) ...... go with what makes sense for the majority of your miles/kms.     K60 never failed me, Worth the money, I’m getting 14K out of the rears. Not too bad for a 50/50 tire.

    K60 Scout takes a while to warm do to being so thick and dense so be careful if you choose it. Takes maybe 50% longer to warm in comparison to some 80/20 tires.

    I have run these on my T7 for years. They definitely get that squared off rear decently quick...Do you have any tire recommendations that do not do that as quick? (hopefully from a similar type of tire)

    I ran one set 5-6;years ago, definitely not for me. 3000 out of the rear and the front cupped really badly. But it did perform well all things considered.

      RIDE Adventures actually that was on a 2003 Vstrom 1000. I live and ride in western NC, TN, VA and WV primarily. The roads are rough but I do ride 80-90% all the time. I’ve never got more than 3500 miles out of any rear tire on 9 different bikes, and at 15,000 miles a year average I’ve tried just about every tire out there.

      Oh, and if I can mention one thing: We stopped using TKC80's years ago, because often they wouldn't even last 1 full Patagonia trip, so we had to bring all the extra tires. Yes, maybe the TKC80 is a bit more sticky/grippy, but at a major inconvenience and expense.

      I had the TKC 80 ony my Husky 701 from the factory. They are fun on dry tarmac and downright scary when its wet. (temperatures around 15°C).
      After changing to the K60 driving in the wet felt much less dangerous. On dry tarmac and offroad (dust, gravel, fireroads) there is not much difference between the two. Both are dual-sports tires, IMO you can't expect MX-performance from them, specially in wet conditions.
      I'm looking forward to the K60 Ranger!

    Thanks for the video! Perhaps you guys in the comments can help me here a little bit: I have just gotten my 2006 Husqvarna WR125 up and running. I will be using it mostly during summertime, both for light enduro, going to/from work, and hopefully blasting some gravel roads. I've read some people go as far as calling this tyre dangerous on wet roads, for example, but I will rarely ride it in the wet. Do you think this tyre would suit me for this bike?

    I just installed new heidenau k60 tires. On a perfect rim front tire has 2 mm lateral runout. So motorcycle starts wobble at 130 km/h.

      Ugh, sorry to hear that. Thanks for letting everyone know. Sometimes deflating and reinflating will move the bead a little (unless it's already dried and set, then break the bead) which might help.

      Yep, we're testing them right now. Pretty good, main thing being the leading-edge of each lug seems to be breaking away more so than any other tire. Hmm....

    How is the grip of the front tire in the wet and/or cold?

      Pretty similar to the rear, same compound, so they behave quite similarly. Using the Cold Compound version of this tire, if available in your size, helps with grip in the cold. We have them for sale on shop.rideadv.com

    Appreciate your very practical, personal use review, as this is a tire that I have strongly considered! Since I often ride alone in a much cooler/wet environment, and not anywhere near the miles you do, I have found the TKC 80 to be a great tire, but clearly will not get the same length of life. Would have appreciated you dropping the names of some of the tires your experience would deem a reliable alternative. Others in the comments have mentioned some names, and I will be personally considering the Mitos E 07 + (amongst others) for my new T7 when the originals wear out. Any thoughts?

      Allen, yea, we'll have more comparison videos coming up. Lately riding a bunch of the MotoZ Tractionator GPS, with pretty good results, and yes, those E 07's are a solid option, too. The "one tire to rule them all" though? Going to be a tough, tough video to make : ) Thanks for commenting.

      The TKC 80 is still a very solid choice, as long as you already recognize the wear life limitations. A knobby has to be a soft compound in most cases to not be outright dangerous on the road, especially on a 450-500 pound ADV.

    I have searched everywhere for the Cold Compound tire, but haven't been able to find it for sale. Where did you source yours?

      We use distribution channels unfortunately not open to the public, so maybe just ask the individual online store that you typically shop, and see if they can get them for you on special order or something?

    In the UK even on the road in summer, my little 250l would have the back end step out in damp conditions. Awful antique tyre I consider dangerous. Lucky it didn't last long and I got back to an anache wild. They grip on and off road.

      Amazing how some folks are saying the opposite, that they are impressed with the grip and traction. Folks: Keep in mind, that in some conditions, on some surfaces....especially wet/slick/damp with mud, dust, material or whatever.........NO TIRE........in this world......is going to really "stick." They will all slip, on certain surfaces. ----- Thanks for sharing.

      Yea, kind of tough for us to get into the handling characteristics, other than to say that it is a great tire that has served us very well. Pressure variations, temperature changes, constantly changing terrain textures and conditions ... It’s always possible to find a situation where it may walk a little bit, but for the most part it’s a great tracking and riding front tire as well.

    I rented a bike with these tires and it felt like I was riding with plastic tires in the rain they were downright dangerous. If it's not dual compound it's obsolete the continental TKC70 is far superior

      Not yet. But imagine they will perform as well as they have on the 790's, 1200's, etc. We're putting MotOZ Tractionator GPS's on the T7's now, and in fact, just finished filming a couple of reviews on that tire to be released in the coming months.

      Good way to put it, "the gold standard." Perhaps such is why we've been so heavily dependent on the K60......sampling only minimally into the other options out there. Lately the MotoZ Tractionator GPS is making a good showing.

      @@RIDEAdventures just mounted the Motoz GPS rear on the T7. Fingers crossed it lives up to its "K60 killer" reputation without the cracking issues some have apparently experienced. Mix matched to a dunlop trailmax mission front. Both tubeless. Stoked to see how they work together.

      @@lessmore444 the TM front is a great match. Very good road grip with a tread pattern that’s more aggressive for off road than the rear even. The TM front is a slightly softer compound than their rear, yet gets better wear life...easily 10K miles.

      @@wathafish1, interesting, lots of riders are liking the E07. We haven't used them nearly as much as the Heidenau. What don't you like about the Mitas?

      The EO7+s are terrifying on wet pavement, and a little sketchy on dry as well. I didn’t even finish the rear tire because of this. They also have a weird side to side squirm in mud. If you ride conservatively and are prioritizing wear life, then they’re an alright tire.

      Because had some seriously scare more than once on tarmac...terrible in wet conditions. 07 is not for me.

    Besides probably being the longest lasting ADV on the market ( it’s CRAP 💩 off road - because of that Centre strip and CRAP on road in the wet - dangerousness even ) I value my life not how long a tyre lasts

      @@RIDEAdventures , over all my years of riding on and off road I( there isn’t much rubber between you and the ground ) So I would rather buy a tyre that kept me upright. It’s common knowledge that the K60,s Centre strip is dangerous in the wet - almost high sided me. And also common knowledge that because of that strip you don’t get the traction off road either. So I don’t think it’s exaggerated.

All these Customers plus our Guides, having ridden literally millions of miles over 10+ years, from Tierra del Fuego through the Andes Mountains all the way up to Alaska, and not a single person has referred to the Heidenau as "dangerous." Yes, there have been some crashes, just the same as happens while riding other tires in the market. Sure, the K60 Scout may not be the stickiest tire (as we said in the video) but maybe there's a just little exaggeration going on here. Or wait, maybe it really is CRAP, and all our Riders just got lucky. (Because of a strip, "you don't get traction?") Anyway, thanks for commenting.

    Sadly, in my experience, a truly horrible tyre on wet tarmac. It genuinely shocked me how quickly it let go in the wet. Dry, warm roads, pretty good. When warm, it'll carve. Living in the UK I think it is a very poor tyre. If I lived in Spain or Greece, I'd have a very different view. I had the M&S tyres. They sit in my barn, untouched and unloved.
