Rule 4B : be aware of sitting still for too long. Many years ago, in my 30's I got a thrombosis in my leg because of sitting recording and mixing for 5-10 hours a day. Get up walk around every 40 minutes guys... thrombosis kills you! I am a big fan of this channel and as a friend I want you to know, this is a genuine WARNING ⚠️ blood clots can move from the leg into the lungs and YOU DIE! All the tutorials and equipment in the world mean nothing if you aren't here to enjoy the process. ❤️BE SAFE ❤️ LOVE FROM LONDON 🇬🇧 x

Before the pandemic, I didn't know anything about recording, editing and mixing... A couple of months later, after watching your 100 presonus studio one tutorials and your mix together, I'm able to hear and fix some stuff I've never heard before. Keep on doing such a great job it's so helpful for people like me. A big thanks!!

Thanks for video. Totally agree, you gotta get that balance right from the start. I enjoy getting my mix buss going after. that. I like The Slate Tape plugin and Virtual console with a little EQ and Mixbuss compression. Once I get that right then I start mixing my individual tracks.

If only this video had been posted on 2016... It would have saved me so much time, and energy.
It is so crazy how most beginners, tend to overmix, because they are compensating for a lack of skill/knowledge! Music is a feeling so that last rule is amazing ! And yeah sometimes this complicated work that we do can be simple! Stop overcompensating, and keep the feelings!

After two years of mixing and mastering my own tracks and now watching this, your videos has really helped make sense to me why a lot of my tracks feel over-processed and squashed, and it's definitely because I didn't get these foundations right from the VERY beginning. Your method is truly the epitome of the "less is more" concept, and although it feels so opposing to my natural habits of JUST SLAPPING PLUGINS CAUSE IT FEELS GOOD, this method really does make sense and it really begs me to question why I am doing what I'm doing, and is it really the best way to achieve what I want. Thank you again! Binge watching all your stuff and its all slowly coming together for me, can't wait to apply these methods on the next track I'm mixing! Cheers!

I frigging love this. With all that's going on, I'm mixing the worship sessions of our church before broadcasting and I've had to record drums with 6 mikes, but directly to stereo because I just don't have enough channels. It has been a challenge because I don't have as much control over the drums post recording, but I've learned so much as it has forced me to nail the tracking part really well and invest time at the miking and tracking so that I can work on the mix with, essentially, a drum bus. So that step of working on things as a bus definitely adds up. This makes so much sense. Thank you!

I've basically been trying to throw everything I thought I knew about mixing in the trash because I'm never thrilled with my mixes. I watched a 5 part youtube series on mixing from scratch on the RecordingRevolutions channel and I followed it for a new song I was mixing and the results were drastically better. I stumbled across your page today and watched the 3 rules of EQ and 6 rules of compression videos and they made a lot of sense. One thing I noticed about myself is when I get a mix to a place I think is good, I think i'm done and then I find myself tweaing/changing things for the next 2-4 weeks. It feels like an endless rabbit hole I put myself down, I would love to be able to get a mix where it needs to be and be able to walk away from it without constantly hearing things I think need to be tweaked.

Rule 1a: Subtractive editing. Do you really need those power chords throughout the entirety of the song? Etc...etc.
Rule 2a: Leave all the mix faders in their nominal positions and adjust the levels of the clips manually.
Vocal too soft in the chorus? Take the scalpel icon, "cut the tape" prior to the start of the chorus and again at the end of the chorus and then raise the gain. Its conceivable that your static mix ends up having a straight row of faders if you do surgical editing first. Avoid the notion that you can just use automation down the track. Get your static mix as close as possible by adjusting individual clips (and parts thereof). And remember, the more plugins you use, the harder your computer's processor has to work and there may come a point where you exceed its available power and you get nasty glitches and/or drop outs.
