Granted if you’re blind… but otherwise if you aren’t then use your eyes 👀. Which part exactly do you want an explanation on? 1. Measure old material 2. Remove old material 3. Cut to size replacement material 4. Paint said material 5. Then in addition to what was previously there, add (metal) flashing on the corner to prevent future rot from water come down off that roof edge. Look i don’t know how to do it either but now that i’ve seen it done, we can conceptualise this into a recipe for similar repairs in the future. Can’t expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter.
If you replace something, especially something that has rotted from water damage, you have to rectify the cause or you have done nothing. What I could see was no overhang of the shingles and improper drip edge install with no spacing behind the drip edge. Like you said the customer was what dictated the work to be done.
I use PVC board if I want it to last and can't be 100% corrective of the cause. If white on white like this job, no painting and will last for a very, very long time. Stuff I did on my garage >15 years ago still looks good.
Redid our whole house facia boards with fiber cement boards. Now no wood rot can set in. Had to repair some of the wood behind as this was also rotten. Sadly we don't get proper nature wood in SA most of the pine warps like crazy. If you want decent wood for repair it costs an arm and a leg
All in all, that's nice work. One thing you may want to look into is the step flashing that should have been installed right above your repair. I believe that is the cause of the rot.
@@patrickcowan8701 "Repaired" - $20. Done right - $200+. A customer has to be old enough to see the value, and well-off enough to afford it, to pay for the second option.

I watch a lot of Home Improvement videos, you have some of the best. Please keep making them. I don't think I've ever asked anyone to keep doing what they do, but you deserve to be the first.
The scab on the end of the soffit is proud of the fascia. What's to keep water from behind the metal band-aid you installed? You left the rotten soffit end in place?
Those pry bars "mine is a little diff shape" are one of my favorite tools. They make demo much easier. Can do the job of a 10lb crowbar with less damage to other things.
Maybe answer my question please ? I have a small room we added years ago, the top over hang on outside on one corner is rotted, do I have to replace the roof wood corner or can I just paint it an replace a roof shingle , I need to know the rot will not travel if I cover an paint it ?

Yeah. This video was less "How To" and more about self fellating. I'd rather watch this guy do it than Ron Jeremy, I suppose. Guess that's why I'm not watching Porn Hub right now.
wife wanted new porch rails so when i removed them one of the post fell out of the roof. All of the inside for the roof is rotten inside the alluminum trim. can i replace the wood with out removing the vynal soffet?

The panels inside my house have water damage i replaced them 2 yrs ago when i moved in because it was rottten. Oh yeah did i mention all of this is around the fireplace? i had someone tar around the base of it and it seems to still leak. I dont use it should i cap the top? Thanks fo this i think i am confident in starting this project after watching this video
That's the flashing around the chimney that does that. It can take a few tries to get a contractor who does it right. Try a licensed roofer, if you can get one who'll take little jobs. I'm bothering to respond 8 months later because a chimney-to-roof leak is a problem that tends to recur. Also, don't cap the top for a leak. That only stops rain from coming into the fireplace - it'll do nothing to seal the chimney to the shingles, which is what needs to be done.
