Persona 4 is a game that honestly kept the person franchise alive with all the spin-off, adaptation, re-release, and like you said the music has so much meaning in the game, like it's a character too that's pushing you to find the culprit.

I started off watching the Anime first, so I kind of took away some hype of the story, but the Social Links that weren´t really shown have still been nice to witness firsthand! I love Inaba and after around 200 hours of Playtime I would rank Persona 4 Golden in my top 3 next to Q and Innocent Sin. It may be a bit Old but it is (Pun Intended) golden. The Soundtrack is SO GOOD! I agree 100 Percent! Heaven and Your Affection are so good to listen too. Secret Laboratory gave me goosebumps the first time I entered that Dungeon

I completely agree with you, P4 is such a special game to me. As someone who grew up in a rural area, I could really relate to a group of dumb teenagers running around goofing off. It gave off summer time vibes and I really enjoyed it. When I look at the cast of characters in this game, I absolutely love almost all of them. I adore pretty much the entire investigation team, so when I got to that ending when they are running after the train during the goodbye, thanking you for everything, it hits me so hard. That's one thing that I think the modern Persona games do a fantastic job with: by the end, you do not want to leave these characters and I think that's a testament to just how fantastic they really are. P4 is my favorite soundtrack as well, although I think the 3 and 5 soundtracks get more love in general. I love the pop vibes, standouts to me are Heartbreak, Heartbreak, Signs of Love, Heaven and Snowflakes (The last two still genuinely make me emotional whenever I hear them, they are that powerful). Overall, I completely relate to you when you said that this is a "comfort game" for you because it's the same for me. The combination of the music, the small town, and these endearing characters are like a ray of sunshine poking through the fog.

Thank you for leaving this comment I loved reading it! I have to agree with your point about the Persona games making you not want to leave. I always call it the "Post Persona Depression" because it's always a bittersweet feeling to know you've used up all the time you have with the characters you've grown to love. Playing Persona 3 Reload, even after playing FES, Portable, and watching the movies, it still hurts to know the game is over. It's cool to know so many people share similar feelings as I do in that regard.

Persona 4 always nailed the little town feeling for me. While Persona 2,3 and 5 felt like the main cast were pursuing a big case all the time with little comic reliefs here and there. Persona 4 feels like a big comic relief with bit of murder here and there. I can't explain why, but it always felt like the main cast is having a blast throughout the whole game, which is only enhanced by the great anime adaptation (especially the English dub). Also, like you mentioned the Social links, for me, are the best of the series by far, they just feel real and are delivered amazing. Especially Naoki, Marie and Yukiko are my personal fav. I think the best way to describe Persona 4 for me is that it's an incredible journey pressed into code for me to play and just have a good time, something no other game achieved until now.

I do like this soundtrack better than p5s. It's just so youthful and the amount of layers in the music rly shines. There's so much going on, like in Your Affection, which has a ton of instruments layered in. The battle songs are rly great and the riffs are so catchy. Hirata's voice is one of the few cases where it sounds the same in the studio and live.
P5s soundtrack sounded more mature with the acid jazz, Lyn is a great singer, and "New Beginning" was so good, but p4s captured the youthful spirit of a game with high schoolers better.

I think I have an idea as to why Persona 4 gets flack some of the time (especially as of recent years), and it's a combination of its overt praise (justified or not) leading to be seen as overhyped, large misunderstandings and misinformation about the story content of the game (usually in wildly different directions), and the fact that it is an anime-style RPG with all of the common tropes some people actively despise (such as scenes of fanservice).
This tends to happen quite often with hugely popular story driven games (especially when the subject matter tackles quite nuanced topics), even more so when said game is firmly set in a presentation style often viewed with disdain from other visual styles in the medium. That, and there are people that always view the popular option as "overrated" or "overhyped", regardless of the quality of content.

Don't get me wrong. I think Persona 4 Golden, aside the earpiercing harmonica and weirdly overly happy even for the setting and story opening, is great and is worth experiencing along with its predecessor and successor. I personally find the story and characters from Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 to be more appealing and relatable for me. I specified Persona 3 Reload because, at least for the English version for the PS2 game, I could never take anything seriously due to the weird vocal directions for many of the characters, especially Fuuka who I headcannoned as being a future serial killer due to how she sounds.
That thing about the Golden opening and the harmonica has solidified my hatred for harmonicas as musical instruments. Yes, the first thing I want to hear whenever I boot up a game that I like is the screeching sound of a harmonica.

As someone who ranks p4 as the 4th game in the series, imo this games has too many flaws to stand with the others like p2is, p3r and p5r. For starters yes the vibes are immaculate, simple as that.
The story tho? Ngl i don't like it at all, p4 is advertised as a murder mystery game, but everything relevant to the investigation literally starts after Naoto joins, 50 into the game, and she has all the info and more even tho she didn't participate in the IT investigation, that's honestly so funny to me, before that the game's structure like p5 is very episodical, but it's imo very boring since we repeat the same sequence of events only to have a new party member, but clues on the actual mystery, the game even wastes an entire arc on someone who clearly is not the killer, other problems i have with the story is that the killer is easy as hell to figure out, and if you count that out if the way you get a game that's 60% made of slice of life scenes that while funny do not add anything relevant to the overarching plot. The killer reveal is great even if obvious but the sequence of poorly foreshadowed god, the Marie part, which i actively dislike as well as her character in general, since i find her the definition of shoved in, and the finale with another poorly foreshadowed god, didn't make me enjoy my time with p4.
The cast is funny i agree, but i find them to be the weakest developed cast in the series, with p1, that's because they do not develop, they face their shadows but a single conversation is not enough to develop a character for a 80 hour game, characters like yosuke, naoto and kanji are what should have been the standard for the party, but unfortunately it isn't, we have a potentially great dynamic between chie and Yukiko that goes nowhere because we never see them talk things out, we have Rise who has a nice introductory arc only to be relegated to the uwu senpai cliché, and Teddie is kind of dumb, but honestly liked him. As you can see i don't like half of the main party therefore seeing them doing nothing for a great part of the story wasn't as enjoyable to me.
Music is great, my favorite is p5's but p4's is great, even tho i don't really like the singer some vocal songs are objectively peak
Gameplay wise, i mean p4 is now the oldest of the modern games, but the gameplay is solid enough that honestly it doesn't need a remake at all, it's still pretty enjoyable.
Social links are good although many a bit forgettable, but i honestly love all the sl/confidants at the same level so yeah
Overall p4 is imo a great concept, with a strong theme that didn't resonate with me as much as p3's and p5's, however it also has so many things it does wrong not even as a story but as a game that i cannot rank it on the same level of either the p2 duology, persona 3 reload and persona 5 royal, since thise games basically changed my life. Even tho i seem to dislike p4 i actually love it for what it is, hell i even got the platinum 2 times lmao, it's still one of my favorite games ever but the other set a bar so high that p4 didn't manage to reach it, even tho it came very close

Sorry, but I actually think that P4 is the weakest from the latest three persona mainline games. The dungeons and battles are sooooo boring and the story picks up only in November - which is basically endgame. It cannot match the depth of 3 and the playability of 5.

I’ve played all the modern ones (reload, golden, royale) and am I the only one that thinks royale is the worst one of the 3?

For me it's Persona 3 Reload at last, they are all peak but with Persona 4 Golden being my favorite and Persona 5 getting me into the franchise in the first place, I just have some bias lol

I can’t really say any of them are the worst cause I like them all more or less equally. P4 is just a bit ahead for me

@@YandereGogeta I absolutely dread the dungeon/palace aspects of these games tbh. I kinda like it more now that I’m better at the game, but it’s still not super fun for me. The social sim is what I enjoy from these games, and I think persona 5 has the weakest social links. That and u have momentos on top of the tedious gimmicky palaces, and it just gets old real fast. Easily earns least favorite on my list. But rn im back and forth rn with reload and golden for my favorite

@@AkiraRambles peep my reply in the thread it wouldn’t let me @ u both lmfao but as far as reload tho for me has the some of coziest music and some of the best social links. I love walking around the city or school choosing what social link ima do while the music goes on. Also being in the dorm too

@@LilWeySoIcy oh for sure if we’re talking about osts, Reload would be above Royal for me. Although I like the social links in p5 a little more cause coffee dad, akechi, iwai, and maruki, and hifumi to name some. I’ll admit I love the little hangouts you can do with shinji and the male roommates alongside the other links.
