  • Hey guys! This is a video I wanted to do for quite a while but I wanted to make sure it's lengthy and thorough, so here it is - how to create these metallic rustling foley patterns you hear in quite a few future garage tracks :)
    In this video we're going through things you can record to get the metallic sound we're after & how to create a rhythm with your recordings using sidechain & volume envelopes.
    Then I go through some tips for additional effects you can add to your metal foley samples, how you can create metallic hihats from your recordings, and how you can dampen the harsh high frequencies from this type of foley with a multiband compressor.
    If you don't want to record your own metallic foley, I also featured a sample I recorded for this video specifically of a tambourine :)
    If there's a subject/sound you want me to cover in one of my future tutorials let me know in the comments below ;)
    Enjoy!

      First you open a garage and then you build a time machine there. Make a beat in the future and release it in present day. Or you could just watch Venus Theory's videos and skip the time machine part ;P

    "Reverse" side chaining (or whatever the technical term is) is also great for making good foley patterns.

    • @Sharpend
      @Sharpend  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never heard of that actually.. It means that every time the sidechain signal plays, the foley's volume gets increased instead of decreased?

      @@Sharpend Basically aye, makes it easier to do interesting patterns, rather than doing automation clips. Works extremely great with vinyl crackle/noise
      Really glues the crackle, foley and drums together very well.

      Yeah it definitely sounds like a great idea too! Thanks for the tip, gonna try it asap!!

    Great tutorial man! Can you do one on sublab his bass too?

    • @Sharpend
      @Sharpend  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man, do you have a specific song example of the bass you're looking for?

    • @Jimbo087
      @Jimbo087 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sharpend Hidden Hills for example. I know he uses Porta for the glide but it feels like he really compresses the shit out of the sub haha. It is so out there. Thanks man!

      @@Sharpend Vidura by Sublab/Azaleh is amazing, they have this bass stutter that I haven't quite figured out yet, would love to see your take on it

    • @MGlyph
      @MGlyph 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also the glide-in when the bass line starts. It might just be porta, but it's such a large jump
