I live with PTSD and this is a good portrayal of what it looks like after experiencing/witnessing a traumatic death. The flashbacks, the anger, the survivors guilt, being so dazed that you feel detached, etc. Great film ❤

I'm not sure if many people can fully understand what train drivers go through when the train they are driving hits someone, whether it be accidental or a suicide.
That's not to say that I do, but I've tried to get my head around it.
When I was at school an acquaintance took his life this way, and even though it was a commuter train, and about half a mile from the station, (therefore not travelling at a significant speed) it still struck him with enough force that he was found almost 100m away from the impact*.
This obviously must have been enormously traumatic for the driver, and that's before discovering that it was a 15year old taking his own life.
I hate to use the term "selfish" when talking about someone taking their own life, but it is - the train driver is a very unwilling participant in the act - they cannot swerve, nor can they brake in a short distance, so they just have to accept that is happening - a horrific predicament to find yourself in.
*The British Transport Police and the Procurator Fiscal, (equivalent to the Coroner in Scotland) had a good idea of what had occurred, because tragically he did it in front of a friend.
In my teens there were four suicides of lads that I knew, to varying degrees.

Does the mere mention of "school" bring back bad memories?
Is this some kind of delayed coping mechanism?
      Is it working?
Do you feel better about yourself?
Does lashing out banish the demons?
Whatever this is, I hope that it is working for you - I wish I could say that I understand, but I don't...

I guess one of the messages it's giving is that S***** affects many people. Not just loved ones, but also those who witness it and are used as the catalyst. It's also has to be traumatic to a first responder as well. I do not envy these people. It's got to be an absolute awful thing.
It was good to see at the end, the main character being able to somewhat comfort someone else who experienced the same trauma. It's helpful to connect with others who know what you've been thru firsthand.

Yesterday I was on a train, which was the next train to go through a tunnel after the previous train had just hit someone. I keep thinking about the train drivers announcement he made when we were stuck in the tunnel under the bridge, saying there was an obstruction on the tracks in front of us and he didn’t know how long it would be before we could continue. When we came out the tunnel I saw the rail update that someone was hit. We had to wait in the tunnel, probably while the body was cleared, then slowly moved into the station just in front of the bridge. We then had to wait for another 20 minutes or so before we had to go backwards into London. I keep thinking about the train driver of my train, if he’s ok. And of the train driver who was the one who actually hit the person. I hope they can get the support they need. I can’t imagine what it’s like to witness something like that.

Railwaymen in general, and drivers in particular, are the most competent and conscious “blue-collar” workers in industry. Right up there with experienced teachers or even paramedics. Some manage to carry on working after the trauma of a death due to their equipment, others just die. They are as responsible as airline pilots, and their trains are just as lethal as an aircraft. It’s deplorable that drivers now get no compensation for damage done to their emotional, mental or physical health, owing to the actions of other people.

I knew someone who used to conduct one of the subway trains in NYC and she told me that when you train or when you're in school for it or whatever, they go over the inevitable which is, at least once in your career, tragedy on the tracks will happen. It can't be helped. So they have counseling departments and they pay for any additional counseling a person might want or need after such an event. Which I guess is a good thing. But my friend said that it all but can't be avoided. Too many people are in pain. That's doesn't even count unfortunate accidents that happen all the time too.

The person who operates the train is NOT the Conductor!! Would you go on a plane and call the stewardess the pilot?? Please get these terms right. I am a Train Operator for the New York City subway system and I had someone Ride the top of my train they ended up hitting their head on a bridge facade and they were killed. It is an awful thing to go through but unfortunately that is a part of the job. I know people who have gone through several of these one person had more than 10.

Superb acting. This must be one of the most traumatic experiences anyone could ever experience. The government always abandons those who are in desperate need of assistance. People who commit suicide by train end up emotionally killing some of these drivers, too. If you’re keen on doing away with yourself, and refuse to seek help, at least do it in a way that doesn’t emotionally scar the innocent bystanders in the process.

    • @Finn_01
      @Finn_01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

People “keen on doing away with themselves” don’t really think about that kind of stuff in the moment. And either way, we shouldn’t automatically give up on people because they haven’t been seeking help. They’re still human and that gives them the right to live

    • @allisonjames2923

    • @davidquirk8097

It's not just the drivers. The driver gets it first, then the Network Rail guys (and girls) and the RAIB people, out on the tracks picking up the bits and then the Depot Techs who have to clean and repair the train (a smell you never forget I'm told) after that. And not forgetting the Emergency Services people or any of the general public who happen to witness it. It's possibly the most selfish way there is to take your own life. It impacts on so many others.
I know that the person taking their own life isn't in a good place and probably doesn't even consider the impact on others, their own health drives their actions. It would be really good it Governments started taking mental health seriously. The HSE in the UK have already said that mental health is going to be the biggest killer in industry with a few decades.

As a train driver in sweden I was coming out from a curve that is pretty sharp and suddenly two children was on the rails and was playing. The children had the backs against me. The distance was 20 m. I immediately applied brakes and sounded the horn. Everything felted like going slowmotion. I was telling my self please, please move! Luckily they jumped. I was pretty shaken after that.
