Play this in middle school. At the time we were the first middle band in Georgia to play a full level concert for festival. And received all superior, even in sight reading. That was 26 years ago
I love this Chorale and Shaker Dance by John P Zdechlik. I played it in grad school band, high school band, college band and my own town band!. This chord structure is amazing as it seems to float in the air! And the way he sometimes uses the chorale structure in his orchestration makes it so satisfying! This is excellent musicianship by the Northern Illinois University Wind Ensemble!
I played this at my concert on Saturday, March 7, 2020 on a tuba. We were supposed to perform on Thursday, March 12, 2020. But due to COVID-19, we had to cancel the performance that was supposed to happen on Thursday 3/12/2020
I am a freshman and it is a great song and i can do all the notes for second trumpet part, but all of the time signatures mess me up and then i lose track
Am I the only person who thinks this piece is boring and too long? I’m a third clarinet and I just think this piece is so boring, no offense to people who like it, I just don’t and I don’t think I ever will
As a former second clarinet player and conductor who has performed and conducted this piece, I agree with you about this piece (to a point). There are sections that I think could be shorter, but overall, I do like the piece. If it helps, the importance is that prior to this composition, there was ONE definitive treatment of this melody, Aaron Copland’s Variation on a Shaker Melody from Appalachian Spring. It was and is SO iconic that other composers wouldn’t go near this tune. This piece is very different from the Copland, and worth knowing because of it. That does not mean that you have to LIKE it (I never tell anyone they have to like anything). I do hope you can gain an appreciation for it.
