    He emphasizes slamming. I know when i have 10 tandems coming on constantly you tend to care a little less about spillage and more about getting 20 loads out of each truck. Thats fast though dude good skills

    How long did it take you to learn how to hold grade in that monster? I usually run a 312 cat now and it's pretty easy, but I had the opportunity to do a little diggin with a 600 hitachi in Iowa and it took me a while to develop my depth perception out so far away. Your cut looks really clean and neat. Says a lot about you

  • @vantagetes
    @vantagetes  12 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks a lot. To be honest you were probably having more trouble with the fact that the Hitachi would of been stick priority hydraulics over Cat's boom priority hydraulics. They dig completely different. Big machines are a whole different class but once you catch on to one it doesn't take much to jump around. The biggest difference is how much momentum you have while trying to do direction changes.

    I understand you are in overburden/shale rock here, but, when in easy material, you can almost double your speed by coming into the pile with the back of the bucket flat (your teeth are like) Instead of your teeth being like I I I I I I, looking at the bucket from the side they'd be almost _ to the ground and you also grade/seal as you go. Like I said... when in this kind of material you need the teeth and you are doing right by dragging your teeth through it assuming you're doing rough grade. Basically, you'd come in towards the hoe, flat, the bucket fills itself... then you back off the pile just a hair... then curl in some. I'll make a video someday if you don't know what I'm talking about. (I don't run 385s though :P... 160/210 mostly.)

    • @turdferguson7813

      vantagetes I'm 58 did lots of retention ponds and cuts on big highway jobs I enjoyed loading haul trucks more than triaxles because you don't have to be so gentle but after years it became very boring. Biggest machine I ran was a 450 JD 4 buckets of clay crap and the triaxles were on their way overloaded. I ran 345s but the JD had a bigger bucket,I wish I ran something bigger.

      derwolfistda neat works well if ur doing a house pad or fixing a yard but for production with off road trucks just try and imagine why be neat when he those trucks will be going over it shortly and how much more yardage will be moved in a day with the truck absolutely as full as possible then in a month or a year omg I was just on a job two years day after day doing that and every bit counts just like every extra move is one less for ur machine and extra for u to do everyday and loading that much most likely until finish grade gets ran over so much so quick by trucks ,dozer it’s grader that’s little stuff can’t matter and I like neat work and finesse I’m still learning everyday the rougher bigger production faster cycle times efficient minimal stuff and it was taking me 9 passes for 745C with 336E way too many lol

    Its not like he is loading on road trucks that are driving on the highway. He is bulking out material for production, loading the truck in about 50 seconds which is impressive. I'm sure a clean up dozer is going to come along and blade up his cut and the haul road so he can stay focused on getting some dirt moved not carving out a statue with a mass excavator. Welcome to mass excavation.

    Putting the teeth at 90* is counter productive, you have no penetration. There's a reason why cutting edges are ANGLED. I'm cutting in heavy frost which is the Canadian equivalent to cutting in rock, even if you were in soft material you'd be hard pressed to beat my cycle times. I'm convinced you have no idea what you're talking about, please feel free to come back and comment when you do.

      i am a jabroney although yes he load is an awkward way i find it much easier to start from the front and work my way back and let the tailgate catch everything but those 385 are not fast and easy machines if a truck moves over 2 feet you're looking atleast a yard to fall out before the bucket even makes it to the truck

      You think he's loading gold He's working material he could move faster through, he knows that, he also knows what he's doing. He's not supposed to be super accurate, he's supposed to keep it clear enough for the trucks to move through and move that overburden away. He does a fine job, he says slam, but he could put a real hurt on those trucks if he was not good at his job. He's seems slower on the pickup but if I had to guess he's looking at what he's grabbing so as not to damage anything, a conciencious operator keeping workers safe and machinery running. I'm not an operator, but my brother has been for decades, if you feel you need to sweep up in this line of work you need to move on.

    No disrespect but the operating was sloppy overloading trucks created road hazards and jobsite could have been kept tidier just my personal opinion. Been operating 30+ yrs. Again no disrespect to the machine operator.
