Well done, i am also making a door frame, you know what i did, i used muriatic acid to remove the zinc layer, for this purpose i cut a simple pvc tube with a cap glued on one side, 60% the size of the longest tube (2.2m) about 1.20m 5cm diameter, volume is about 2.5 L , this way i plunge the zinc plated steel tube in acid for 3 mins on each side, and clean them with water. Because paint usually dont stick on zinc it peels away over time. ive seen people on youtube do it with vinegar and it takes 24h, but is safer. I managed to reuse the acid a lot of time, i have no clue how much it could last, had to stop for the night, easily removed zinc from about 12 meters (2x6m, ) of 2cm tubes in the first batch which contained 1L of acid and 2L of water. /!\ this requires much care while handling acid, avoid sudden moves that would make the liquid splash, i used glasses because no faceshield, special rubber gloves thicker than usual house cleaning stuff. never breath near the acid or wear apropriate ffp3 mask and you can live a longer life.
