  • I had the privilege of getting into a program filled with amazing classmates. Through this time together, I’ve been able to learn a lot of things from them and also receive a greater insight on all of the struggles that we come from. Taking this moment to thank @andrew_zufall and his wife for sharing their story with me on how they got into their programs with a low GPA!

Displaying how capable you at overcoming adversity on your application is not shared enough in the pre-dent community! I was someone who went from graduating with honors in high school to doing well my freshman year of undergrad then my grades sort of "yo-yo"'d from average - poor grades for a year or two because I wasn't being SERIOUS. I haven't received a grade beneath a B since 2012 (Originally entered undergrad in 2009, also went to dental hygiene school and graduated from there in 2015) and have been working diligently since realizing that you can't just retake classes and hide old grades. I don't think that advisors stress this to students entering college enough. I am applying for the first time this cycle and was devastated to find out that the AADSAS app will not exclude old grades but I have to focus on my upward trend and capability! Thank you so much for sharing! I don't think this situation is voiced enough and its easy to get discouraged when you see students posting that they wouldn't apply with GPA's less than 3.7 etc.

I'm SO glad this video was able to encourage you and that it's showing others you can still make it into dental school even with a low GPA. Yes, it's going to take some time to fix those wrongs but going from a high GPA in high school to a far lower one in college should never deter you from reaching your goals! Best of luck on this years application cycle! I'll be cheering you on!

Thank you so much for sharing Andrew! I graduated in 2018 so I’ve been working in the dental field ever since. I really am in the same boat as you where my experience cup is full but my academic isn’t. You really inspire me to go back to school. Btw love the analogy! I will be applying this year to dental school for the first time and taking DAT for the second time. Most likely, I will end up going back to school for my masters.
    Thank you so much!

Such an emotional rollercoaster. I am currently in the middle of my application cycle and am feeling less than confident. This story was so inspiring and was exactly what I needed to hear to continue to push myslef. Thank you so much for sharing Andrew and Michael!

Glad you liked the video and thank you for your support! It's easy to get ourselves down in undergrad but as long as we keep our passion alive for dentistry, it'll be a matter of when we get in and not a matter of if. Best of luck!

I’m working on my undergrad and my entire family ended up getting sick. We had symptoms similar to covid-19 but it wasn’t serious enough to go to the hospital. Anyway, this semester has been difficult because of this. This video has really helped me get motivated to keep working as hard as I can! Great content!
