    The beaches are covered in sargassum. especially Tulum. The time of year does make a difference. You absolutely need to check the beach cams before you go.

      That’s a very good pro tip that I can’t believe I left out 🤦‍♂️ but that’s for sharing and i really hope other read your comment to help them with that. You get a similar issue vacationing in Florida’s panhandle also

      Jean, the sargassum arrives in blankets, across all of the area, one beach could be clean the other contaminated, it depends on the currents, north south or west. Hotels try their best to clean it up but at times when it is 2 feet thick and extends from the shore out 100 feet your not going swimming and of course as it decomposes the smell is that of a Johnny Go Hut and a Fish Market, some find this repulsive.
      There are sections where BOOMS have been installed, however this will not stop the Chocolate water and if cleared by currents it gives you the impression your a dolphin swimming in a marine park with bright yellow barriers booms. So that picture perfect photo is hampered by Booms. We have been clear since September, the odd amount not much, however as we globally warm the Sargassum breeds.....
