Howie played a very key role in the group, when a song was at the peak key, then usually is howie who sang the transitional session to smooth the song down. Make it whole balance.
I really, really take issue with people who say that Howie should stay in the background, that his place is not up front with the others. Howie has a beautiful, airy, soft, romantic voice that, with the right song, really really shines. Sure, he doesn't have that powerhouse voice like AJ's, Nick's and sometime Brian's. But you don't have to have that power voice to have an incredible voice. Howie really shines here. I love his voice! He deserves some time in the spotlight too. Last time I counted, there were 5 Backstreet Boys.

Ellos son los extremos de las armonías, kevin en los bajos y howie en los agudos, a su vez no pueden ser voz principal ya que su rango no es tan amplio como la de brian o nick que pueden pasar de un b3 a un f5, y si no estan en los extremos el resto no puede entrar en las armonías, asi que kevin y howie son los que llevan la batuta en el grupo.

He escuchado la voz nítida y hermosa de Kevin, y la voz dulce de Howie y me pregunto ¿quién pensó que dar un poco más de protagonismo a estos dos chicos afectaría a la banda? En fin, estuvieron en México y cada vez que ellos cantaban (de los pocos versos que les dejaban) todas gritábamos super fuerte, expresando nuestra felicidad y alegría de ver a ellos cantar, ya que no suele pasar muy seguido.
