I appreciate the thoughtfulness and candor you brought to this video. As a snowboarder, or as a predominantly white, well off, male with free time, one of the more important things we can do is NOT be silent while individuals in our ranks spread hate, lies, and misinformation. I'm also pleased to hear you address CTE within the industry. You brought a solid level of nuance to a short video where you're still obviously working to better form your understanding.
The whole Nico thing is hard but this hasn't been sudden - hes been on this train for quite a while now, especially with like 5g, vaccines etc. I like your points about dealing with it though because it is easy to have the knee-jerk cancel reaction rather than asking what is actually wrong with people like him.
He doesn’t speak back to people about it that have asked him before. He just talks shit and says “don’t be a sheep”..... there’s no talking to that dude anymore
@@ziggyjohnston5302 nothing he said has any factual legitimacy. He went from being concerned about the destruction of the environment to backing up a Republican US president who pulled out of the climate agreement and did everything he could to let big business make more money destroying our planet. Thanks for bringing up a lot of different facets to this. I will say that companies are already considering an athlete's personality because they need someone who can sell product, and if you have zero charisma, that's not really gonna work. I also do think mental health needs to be addressed. Just listened to two freeskiers talk about their downward spiral into drugs and burnout because they had anxiety, depression, and/or bipolar disorder. Then you add in TBI, and we do need to check up on our athletes.
My first impression when I looked into Muellers threads was that he was showing signs of psychosis or bipolar disorder. This may or may not be related to cannabis and psychadelics usage or to CTE. The views he's putting forward are absolutely disgraceful, but what has caused someone who has vibed "peace and goodwill" for the last two decades to start spewing such vitriol? It's appropriate to completely condemn what he's saying while at the same time asking questions about his mental health and whether he needs medical help and support.
Came back to this looking for answers after watching riders like Mark Landvik, Bozung, and others go off the conspiracy deep end recently... and there is no answer...
They're not just athletes - they're also marketing vehicles for these sponsors. Being good on the board is important for athletic reasons, but being a good marketing vehicle means a lot of other things as well. He has illustrated a complete failure on this front which is why he's being dropped. TLDR: you can't sell cool vibes with the hate he's spewing
I feel like the snowboard community is smart enough to not need this. The sponsors can decide what to do about it but the snowboard mag should just spread positive snowboard news. Mullers part that helped build wells in Africa was awesome. His other stuff. Not awesome but freedom means do you.

With recent suicides within our own community, do you think public online mob bullying is ok? I almost wonder the legal ramifications for these companies firing someone for expressing their beliefs online and not others? Maybe slander ? Labeling someone racist and mentally unstable is disgusting. Not only did his sponsors drop him, but you felt the need to come on here to further negativity and ridicule and didn’t even provide any evidence as to exactly what happened, only your biased opinion of what you read. The arrogance of this shows snowboarding is still an exclusive rich kid sport. You could have used this time to support a blm movement or bring attention to the problems at hand, only to laugh at a fellow snowboarder’s downfall.
This is mob bullying? Seemed like a simple discussion and some speculation given the fact that Muller started spewing hateful conspiracy theories and got dropped by all his sponsors. And yes shunned to until he gets his shit together, no one wants that bat shit hate filled rhetoric anywhere in the sport. It’s not like he just voiced some conservative political opinions.
