I got to March in 4 Christmas parades, the 100 Centennial Rose Parade (front row on the Pink Line in the middle) Sunkist Fiesta Bowl, countless halftime shows, Studio Band traveled all over the State and out, Disneyland Parade, and we were the first High School Band to “EVER” perform at Carnegie Hall!! Omg what an experience that was! Also in 1989 toured all the famous landmarks including The Capital Steps, The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier, The Vietnam memorial wall, The Battle Of Gettysburg, Fairfax Virgina 4th of July Day Parade and of course at Carnegie Hall! I remember getting to go up on the top of the Empire State Building and looking up at the Twin Towers. Omg they were so tall! (🙏🏻). The Mighty Porterville Panther Band taught me so much about life and music. Buck Shaffer was my mentor and I learned so much from life from him. I had him for 3 years until he retired at the end of my junior year! During 4th period he just stopped and sat down on his green chair and said to us well that’s it everyone. I’m going to retire this year with tears in his eyes . We all stood up and clapped for him for 10 min! Such an amazing man. He is the real life Mr. Hollands opus! Jim Kusserow took over in 1991 and I had him for my senior year and Mr. K was just amazing. He continued the mighty tradition of the Panther Band and added his own style. I miss him so much. He taught me so much in just one year! (Suncat Jimmy!🎺🎺) We also played Owner Of A Lonely Heart at the halftime Shows under Jimmy! I hope he enjoys his retirement. I LOVE OUR BAND!!! that parade was freaking fun! so was rose parade!!! ...yeah there's def no other school in town that has a band as clean as us!!! We ARE one of a kind!
