I think what people watching (and dare I say, instructing) can some times forget is just how much a mistake, if you will, knocks your confidence. You weren't dangerous but it really makes you feel like you seriously messed up and when I do something like that, I can't help dwell on it which makes me do subsequent mistakes. You're doing tremendously well and I look forward to seeing us both progress.
Hi Ben, going back to your beginning videos as I've just started learning to fly today with a friend of yours, Tom of elevation airsports in Gloucester. And what a great 1st flight it was. I shall keep you updated on my progress if you don't mind. Tony
I enjoyed your video. Good work showing your first landing - learning from others is a key component of having a strong aviation safety culture. Thanks for sharing.
Good stuff Ben. You’re picking this up quickly by the looks of it. When you get right down to the runway by instructor - in addition to telling me to ‘hold it off’ - also suggested you ‘try not to land’. Same thing really but fixing your gaze on the far end of the runway and looking at that in relation to the nose helps me. There is a lot to take in but it’s all good. Keep up the videos!
Rory On Air - Rory! Thanks for the comment and kind words. Yeh, that’s a good way of putting it. And seemingly - not too quickly else you’ll stall it a couple feet above the ground. The glide is a much steeper approach than I first thought too. Fingers crossed for a greaser soon. Ha !
Very good to watch! I’m currently at the same stage as you but doing a conversion. I’m having trouble not taking pressure of the nose wheel when landing, I naturally push the stick forwards, Bad habits from flying flex wing I think. Just purchased a Skyranger Swift. Looking forward to doing some more circuits.
Tim Carr - ahh great, yes see you at the club. Need to start thinking about that air law exam soon 😬 ha! Thanks for the comment. I’ll be getting up another short video today or tomorrow.
I'm building a Skyranger Nynja and your videos are helping me to picture the final article! When you need your refresher training, can I recommend James Walker of Attitude Airsports. Your friend Rory went to visit there, and James is a good friend and colleague of mine. It's really good to watch your videos Ben, a pleasure to see someone genuinely in love with aviation, from model building to flying. Bravo.
Thanks Martin! Yes I’ve followed the attitude Instagram for a while. Seem like great guys. I’m still with Kemble flying club for now. But I’ll keep them to mind. Ah thanks. And good luck with the build - a great aircraft.
@@BenAtkinsonVideos Sweet! If you're ever interested in having an insight into the commercial aspect of aviation (ie having a play in a simulator) let me know, that's the day job! Cheers.
Great grass landing - very nice. Illuminating video, very brave of you to put it on here. I'm guessing that these videos help you too when played back. Kemble looks and sounds a whole lot busier than the late 1990s/early 2000s - makes it very challenging for a student I guess? Is Oaksey Park still active, is that busy too?
Muso Seven - thanks for the comment! Yeh they really help with my revision - it was the reason I started getting these videos done! Yeh it’s pretty busy, it was one of the reasons I wanted to learn here - good rest of radio skills etc too. Oaksey is open and active mostly I believe yes, I’d like to make the very short hop there one day! Not sure how busy it is.
Paul Berry - hey Paul, cheers buddy! Yeh it was. A few reasons...initially I was training in the Eurostar when the C42 was out of action, but the Eurostar was often booked out. David suggested the skyranger - and I actually really like it. Its not as drafty or chilly as I thought it might. It’s certainly not as sensitive as the Eurostar (nor quite as quick either) but my plan is to gain the NPPL on the skyranger, then get type rated on the C42 then Eurostar too. Hopefully! What do you fly Paul? Thanks again for the comment.
Ben Atkinson I’ve only flown the Eurostar so far but I know DY has mentioned about using the others for training so it may be next lesson we swap. If so then I think the plan would be the same to move across to the others. I really like the Eurostar. Must get booked in!
Paul Berry - Eurostar is great. The skyranger was very sedate in the stall - by all accounts the Eurostar is harder to get to grips with that bit. Let me know how you get on! Certainly would be the plan to have all 3 on the ticket for best availability during the busier summer months!
The first landing was no reflection on you at all. You were left stranded in no mans land, high with power still on while Dave sorted the radio. Even instructors get it wrong some time. Landing took me a long time. In retrospect, one my instructors used to subtlety apply pressure on the stick to correct me rather than explicitly taking control. I therefore never knew if it was actually my landing!

Came back to one if your earlier videos , I learned a lot too 👍👍. Lovely landing, also great feeling to end on a high.
I enjoyed your video. Good work showing your first landing - learning from others is a key component of having a strong aviation safety culture. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Paul. I agree. I’ll always keep them in!
Nice landing on the grass Ben. Top job and another great video
Gavin Lancaster cheers Gavin! David talked me through it well...looking forward to more (much needed) practice! Thanks for watching

I remember it so well... you are in good company with the first landing Ben. keep up with the videos, I'm getting itchy to get back in the air.
martin croft - cheers Martin! Yes that first landing attempt all happened a bit quickly so I’m glad I got it on film. Yes, you must!
Amazing....I´m learning a lot with your lessons
Thanks for watching!

K Skyranger - ahh cheers for your comments. Ah interesting, I can imagine the conversion must be difficult at times!! Good luck with the circuits 👍
Loving these videos. I'm on my 9th hour in a C42 and these are great vids. Love the head camera too..
Hey Markus, thanks for the comment. Keep it up!
Great landing on the grass Ben! Super video's really enjoying watching them. I'm on hour 13 or so, same club same planes so see you up at Kemble!
Tim Carr - ahh great, yes see you at the club. Need to start thinking about that air law exam soon 😬 ha! Thanks for the comment. I’ll be getting up another short video today or tomorrow.

Byron in the clouds - cheers mate!
Good stuff Ben!
Was it your choice to fly the Skyranger and how are you finding it compared to the Eurostar?

Yeh true....better off knowing your errors. Thanks for watching
