Mallory Weggemann - "The Journey of New Mobility" Part 1

On January 21, 2008 at 18 years old, Mallory Weggemann became paralyzed. Since that day she has dreamed of one day walking again, but in order to make that a reality she needs your help. Yesterday, Mallory had her second appointment to look further into the different options of leg braces and to get casted to start the process of having her customized leg braces made. This video has been put together to continue documenting Mallory's journey towards upward mobility.
In the video you will notice that the first "brace" is two different braces put together, the reason for that is since her braces will be customized, they just wanted to try locking Mallory's legs out in the way that the brace will to give her a better feel for it. Although, her actual braces will look much different than those, but the structural components will be very similar (minus added hip support). Unfortunately the second brace that she put on, she doesn't have the ability to use because she doesn't have the necessary control in her lower extremities to make the mechanics of it work. However, she wanted to try them on so she could compare the two and look at a few different options that they can potentially use to make a part of her braces (the locking mechanism on the knee is one, so that when she sits down, she can unlock the knee so her legs are able to bend, and when she is upright the knee is locked for the structural support that she needs).
Yesterday was one step closer to making this dream of Mallory's to "walk again" a reality for her and that wasn't done without the continued support far and wide!
