My dad briefly met Alec Guinness once, he was walking to work at a hotel in London and down this side street up some stairs was Alec Guinness and in shock he points at him and says ‘it’s you!’ and Alec chuckles and points at himself and says ‘yes it’s me’
I don’t understand Guiness would try and make himself look like a bad guy even when he was actually very cordial in person. Like when he alleged he told a young boy to stop chasing banal fantasies when the boy said he’d seen Star Wars 20 times yet the boy as a man came foward and said he was nothing but pleasant and made jokes with the boy.
When Mark tells a story, you don’t feel like a person in the crowd listening to a celebrity. You feel like you’re visiting an old friend listening to him tell his stories on the couch
nathaniel amaya hey, let's do something together okay? Let's take that attitude, see, and let's stuff it into this TINY jar, I have right here. Think we can do that? Okay, lets go!

Alec Guinness "I want to be known by my name, not my accolade". Everyone should remember that, especially as knighthoods are taken away once the person has died. He is no longer Sir Alec.
Is that true? I didn't know that they were taken away after death. That's really shitty. I always have respect for those like Guinness, Ian McKellen, Michael Caine, Patrick Stewart etc who don't really care about using the 'Sir' part. It shows their more humble, down to earth nature.
+Green Whovian So you'd turn down a bonus from your boss because you're humble and you've already been paid for the work you did, right? Yeah, of course you wouldn't. Same thing here. It's considered a great honour to get a knighthood but some people just don't care to be continually called 'Sir' or whatever. They care for the honour but not the pomp that surrounds it.
@@Urbanfisho I think I sort of know what he meant, Sir Alec Guinness is not the same as Obi-Wan Kenobi, they have different traits, personalities and quirks, Obi Wan is a character created and nurtured by many people, but still, Ewan was one of the people who have life to the character and took a lot from the original performance by Sir Alec Guinness
I idolized Mark Hamil as a kid. At the time, Mark was as heroic to me as Christopher Reeve. Mark is very talented. His impression of Alec Guinness was spot-on to my ears. Hearing him imitate Alec took me back to my childhood.

I love this man. With so many of my heroes passing away recently, I can’t help but wonder what I’ll do when mark goes..... I hope it’s far far away from now. I just do t know what I’ll do.
I love how Mark is remembering Alec super fondly as the kind English gentleman he very likely was, and I also remember Carrie Fisher saying on NPR that Alec Guinness on one occasion gave Mark 100 pounds to "go away" for a bit. What's even funnier is that, knowing Carrie, she would never say anything that Mark didn't want out there or that was defamatory (false), so it probably happened once and Mark let Carrie tell people about it.
+Dustin Mcphetridge sorry but if we close your eyes we can all pretend. My feeble video skills and very limited budget prevents such special effects but I think I am improving a little.
Right, I noticed on a video with young Mark Hamill impersonating Alec Guinness that he sounded just like Ewan McGregor's Obiwan, and now he sound's exactly like Guinness when his voice is more matured. Seriously, no matter what his age, Mark Hamill could totally play Kenobi in a radio play
Yeah, see, right before Mark photobombed a bunch of people at NYCC last year, his two dogs, being lead by his daughter, came by, and I thought that was odd with dogs in the building, then Mark comes outta nowhere and asks who wants selfies. I nearly DIED on the spot.
idk if mark was just lucky to be surrounded by good people but every time he talks about others he’s always so enthusiastic, so sincere as he talks about how sweet or funny or talented they are
I have a university teacher who is brilliant and whose manner of speech is so similar to Hamill. He can speak very knowledgeably to any topic for hours.

They should have had Mark play every part in Clone Wars, or at least all the male characters. He's an amazing impressionist, as he showed off on the Muppet Show back in 1978.
Man... I could listen to Mark Hamill's stories all day...
And I say that like I have never done it.
He so hilarious!
Absolutely! And he just generally comes across as such a nice guy.
Alan Frost same here. Really love him😉
I was just about to post the same thing! A day with Mark talking stories is always a Good Day!
Yeah but I still hate his character Luke for letting Han his own friend that he had known for long die by his own sons hand with chewie seeing it all.

Mark really knows how to tell a good story.
