    as a aquatic veterinarian I would like to say, brilliant job father fish. In a round about way it was explained very well. Overfeeding is one of the major issues seen and treated in the hobby. Feedings itself is not, it's the domino affect from the feeding that causes the issues.. another thing to note, is a virus can look like a bacteria and a bacteria a virus. Orginisims will do what they need to survive...salts have good and bad sides to them.and more good than bad, And putting a stressed out fish in 100% new water will only stress it out more, that's another thing we see very often...but in closing father fish knows his stuff and is one of the very few fish keepers I would trust with fish and the knowledge 100% with no doubt.

      As a vet, Steven, do you stand by the Garlic as is said i the video? I agree with the content overall. But that part seems like a idea more then fact?

      I used garlic for ick successfully. Mixed with raw shrimp and fed, also added to water and bathed the fish.
      Not helpful for columnaris. Salt was helpful for col.
      Did not help for danio's fin rot, but the rot was fixed by salt too.

    Thank you for the great back to basics approach to healing a sick fish. It brought back memories of my grandmother using Epsom salts in her fish tank. That was 60 years ago, and it worked then. I love the information you share. People that listen and apply it are going to have much healthier, happier, stronger fish and a much better aquarium for them to live in.

    I appreciate the advice here.
    I have zebra danios some have white fungus growth on the mouth. One has a bubble like growth under the chin.
    I did a 20 minute salt dip about a week ago. It seems to be helping all illness.
    The air bubble growth seems to be deflating and improving now but it is still there...
    Should I salt dip again? How often can I perform the dip safely?
    Or move on to meth blue at this stage?... or would the bubble require surgery?

    • @FatherFish
      @FatherFish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, feed sparingly. Remember, if your fish is hungry he is healthy and happy. If he is not hungry there is something wrong. And, yes. 0 ammonia is a good indication you are not overfeeding.

  • @petercornelius5939

    Hi Father Fish. Just wondering about the tank behind you in this video. Most of those cichlids would dig in the substrate. As that tank appears to be a dirted, deep sand bed tank, how do you deal with digging fish? Don’t they make a mess of your substrate?

    • @FatherFish
      @FatherFish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tank is not dirted but it has been set u for nearly 10 years. The amount of Mbunas in the tank make digging problematic. CA cichlids do, however, dig. Convicts have been real earth movers in this tank.

    Can you help me? You helped me set up a betta 6 moths ago who is doing amazingly well. I found a betta fish w bad fin rot at petsmart. Scooped him up. In a hospital tank w kanaplex, almond leaf, 2 pinecone, a log, a cave. Ate today. Put its dirty cup water into ten gallons of kanaplex w stress coat. It's swimming around today. Has a beneficial bacteria ball in there. I want to ask about using methlyne blue and aquarium salt? When the fin rot heals I want to make it a walstad tank. What do you suggest I do in regards to the methlyne blue and salt? Thank you 🩷🩷🩷

I was considering doing a (100% sea salt) bath I'm not sure tho

    • @FatherFish

      You water may be too soft. Mollies are a brackish water fish. Try adding about 1/4 tsp epsom salts per gallon to the tank.

    Thank you for this very helpful video, Father Fish! I've learned so much from you and wish I found you two years ago when I started my first tank. Better late than never!
    Can you do a video on ridding Camallanus worms? Is there a natural way to break their reproduction cycle? I have mature Amano shrimp and a variety of snails (nerites, ramshorn, pond) in my tanks and from I'm reading online, these can be carriers. I don't want to have to kill them and/or euthanize my fish (guppies, rasboras, mountain minnows and ember tetras). I had a sudden die off of 7 raspboras last week before I found the red worms coming out of a white guppy. The rest of the fish look very healthy and the water parameters are perfect. I have heavily planted tanks (no CO2) with thick substrate (Fluval Stratum, Eco-complete). I was planning on capping the substrate with sand until I found the worms. I have been giving garlic to my fish for the past two days and was surprised that the shrimp and snails love it, too! I was hoping you would have a solution to this problem since it seems that the solutions I found online seem drastic and destructive to my established tanks.
