my favorite part is at 4:33, this is the part that plays at the end of dark knight when gordon is saying his famous "he's the hero Gotham deserves" monologue.
hmm most the sounds in this cover are just impossible to be reproduced on cello unless it is an electric cello. He's doing a lot of vibrato as shown visually, but it isn't heard at all. Also looking closely into 2:57 there is a clear crescendo in volume but the speed and contact point of the bow is simply not changing at all. Also at exactly 3:00 the audio and video isn't synced. Most times what he's showing visually isn't heard at all also. When there's 6 shots of him playing different parts, only 2-4 of the videos are actually barely heard. Many of his covers are legitimate but this one is very very sketchy. Lots of questionable parts and it honestly seems like he's faking many parts visually and using the real track... Just my take on what I saw from the video from a cellist perspective.
AndyBear Thanks for your insights! I‘m also a cellist, actually. :) I totally get your point. I think I‘d position my opinion in the middle. As I make covers myself, I know that syncing an already recorded audio with my movements on video is very hard. At least this I can forgive him because I do believe he doesn‘t record audio and video at the same time. What I have to agree on is the sound quality. Hans Zimmer doesn‘t use cheap samples and I guess he’d not just give away the info, too, about what samples exactly he uses. Additionally, I own an electric cello and do very many things with it - I don‘t think these sounds here can be produced on it. It must be VSTi for sure. On the other hand - who says that ThatCelloGuy hasn’t invested in some really expensive orchestra sample libraries? If you have the money, you don’t need Hans Zimmer’s info, you just look up the (expensive!) possibilities that are used by the pros and go for it. And then, although in my case it would be rather unlikely to do so, it is possible to reproduce almost the same sound as in the original. I commented on this video a year ago when I had much less experience in VSTi and music production. Now I see things a little clearlier.
You got some serious talent. You do not ever need to feel intimidated. This was amazing. That last part from 4:33 on was so well done I had to hear it three times. I had tears in my eyes it was so good. Your covers are really good and if I could make a suggestion for future ones. I would love to hear you cover The Last Samurai (A Way of Life, Spectres in the Fog, and Red Warrior definitely). Also if you ever heard of the song Death is the Road to Awe by Clint Marshall, a cover of that be cool too. Can't wait to see more! Now to go listen one more time.
Read this comment while listening to this for the first time. Kept waiting for this part, and I now 100% agree with you. That last part was incredible, jesus! Blown away.
Were I going by sound alone, I'd have sworn an entire orchestra had recorded this. Truly exquisite, enormously evident that your whole heart was engaged in these performance. I'm blown away by your talent!
there's something magical about what you do. listening to the original, i get goosebumps. it's epic. listening to yours i get goosebumps and i nearly shed a tear. there's such beauty you add.
Sir,, No disrespect your a big man, as a vet as a person who loves music. I take my hat off to you . Please keep you heart follow you all your life ..amazing music followed by a big heart .. you rock
Wha??? I'm speechless. This is just epic. Just when I thought Hans Zimmer could not be any better, and here you are. Thank you for sharing this. Maybe, if I practice for like a THOUSAND years, I can sound like you on my cello that I'm painstakingly learning!
The batman trilogy is probably one of the most listened to in my collection. You sir Absolutely nailed it!! Stunning work. Mr Zimmer should me to honoured with your cover.
You are the biggest reason I have become obsessed with learning how to play a cello. I already play many instruments, but the warm, deep and rich emotional sound of the cello is something that goes straight into my soul. Saving up money to afford to buy a cello next year! Huge thumbs up and respect to you! 😊🙏
Best movie ever and the best composer ever. This was performed amazingly well, I love it. You have true talent. Remember it's not who you are underneath but what you do that defines you - Batman Begins
“Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.” 5:30 - 6:19
I love this song is soo good, I use to get me motivated when I feeling down as I always get a flashback to Batman confronting his fear rather than running away from them. This just pushes me to confront them. Thank you!! You're a blessing dude, keep doing what you are doing!!!
Beautiful, ear-gasmic music as always my good sir! Always a pleasure to see you upload something new; listened to it as soon as I saw it. And a wonderful solo near the end! Keep up the good work!
Ta façon d’être animé, habité par chacune de tes notes, est une ode à tout ce qu’il y a de plus beau et noble en l’humain. Merci d’être celui que tu es ❤️
As much as I didnt like the movie, your cover hit the spot. The soundtrack does tell a story, the breaks, chorus' were wonderfully depicted. Thanks again for another piece of stellar work.
You are unbelievably gifted and a true maestro. I started following you awhile back, but havent been on here for some time. I'm glad I came back. I saw you in a video "Give me Jesus" with Danny Gokey.
You are absolutely masterful in all of your videos, but I gotta tell you: you're breaking my heart each time I listen to this and you don't go all out with the theme that starts at 2:24 and ends at 2:40 :) None the less, thank you so much for all of it!
I thought I had a movie ad, Iwas going to skip the ad but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this was a cover. Very impressed with your talent and editing skills!
There are so many cellist about but omg this guy is the best , so refreshing, I’m about to buy a cello and I can only hope I can be any way near as good as this guy some day , I’m 52 never to old to start , so anyone else out there is thinking they are to old to start learning any instrument no your not go for it , 😅
Woooah hell, this deserves sooo many more views! This nearly sounds as though you've just used the original track, but it's not... This is fantastic. The combination of you and Ashton Gleckman goes just beyond any imagination. This Mix was insane, thank you!🙏
I played upright bass in school for 5 years for Jazz Band and did performances and such...But was never around the cello and did not really listen to its sound until the last handful of years (I'm 29 now) and really wished I had learned to play (I know I can always start). I just really like the sound it has and your videos are amazing!!
So, the duet in the last portion of the piece literally made me cry. I always felt like string instruments sound like they're wailing. That mixed with the facial expressions....How could anyone hit dislike?
One of my all time favorite scores by Hans Zimmer by one of my all time favorite Cellists! I guess it wasn't a coincidence that I have had this soundtrack on repeat all week and all of a sudden you upload a cover for it!
I got goosebump, this is an incredible work, i follow you since long time ago now and you've always impressed me ! This is my favorite soundtrack, Hans Zimmer made one of the best i've ever heard but now you joined him. Never stop ! You will go really far. Awesome job 🤝
Phenomenal!! Not only are you amazing to listen to you are also amazing to watch. Such intensity in your whole body transferred to the instrument(s). Bravo!! 👏
He's not the Cellist we deserve, but he's the Cellist we need.

I like how he doesnt copy the tracks to overlay them but play it multiple times that it sounds more natural! Just shows the work he puts in, great!
5:46 So much expressiveness and heart... I am speechless. I have never thought a cello could be THAT emotional and warm.
The parts with the acoustic classic cello is so good!!!!
