My dad was stationed there for quite a few years, he was air traffic controller and took me to work a few times in my young teens, one very memorable day we did airfield inspection and then up to the tower...I was 14 and saw two Harriers taxi and take off, a short while later they returned and as my dad was chatting to them one hovered in front of the tower ....me with my mug of tea looking in absolute awe at this beautiful plane hovering close by, then I was given the "salute" and she flew off, dog leg over Stamford direction then hovering a few feet off the runway with undercarriage down, vectored down and blowing all the rain water off the runway and enveloping the body...all I could see was a cloud moving slowly down the runway with just the tail fin on view....Jaws sprung to mind!!
My dad was a prop lover, first serving as aircrew on Shackletons but he definitely had a place in his heart for the Harrier...all the others were "flying blowtorches" to him.
when I first visited Wittering the Spitfire was still on gate duty, I miss the airspace of the 80s....so many different aircraft flying around at all times....now I feel less safe.

I was on the ground radio flight in the mid 80s. We operated on the ground floor of the tower and looked after the systems that A TV used.

Nor did we, and all thanks to Pete for not only getting us on the base, but to show what exists of the Harriers at a heritage centre that he and hard working others maintain. I had to remember all the info during the tour and loved learning everything about these lovely jets 🧸🇬🇧

Hi Ted. Well, young bear, it seems that you are now highly regarded by the RAF. If it wasn't for you we wouldn't be getting to see this display. Hope you enjoyed your visit as much as I enjoyed the video.

Hi Stephen, thank you so much. I was contacted by the Chief Tech at the base because he liked what I do. I couldn’t believe it, and now, here we are, bringing this wonderful display to everyone. I don’t know what it is about Harriers but I get very excited when I see them.
Glad you enjoyed the video 🧸🇬🇧

Surreal! Just makes me miss the Harrier even more than I do now. Wittering is my local airbase just living 5,10 mins away. Can’t wait to see more exercises from No.1 Air Mobility Wing this year. Very well done Ted!

Hi George, it was a masterpiece in its time. Nikos won’t forget seeing the images on TV during the Falklands not seeing it at airshows. Was so nice to see them at the Station Heritage Centre. Thanks again for your comments 🤙🏼🧸🇬🇧

The ending is quite moving with the Harrier on display. The HC is a wonderful time capsule. Wonder if a TCS visit could be planned here for us?

If the tyres are filled with foam they shouldn’t need refilling, I think you’ll find they are filled with nitrogen

The air had depleted and are now filled with a special type of silicon or something like that which we help fund
