The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) does have a license renewal process for senior drivers. The DMV begins to place additional restrictions on license renewals when drivers turn 70. Once a driver reaches the age of 70, they can no longer renew their driver's license by mail or online; they must do so in person.
While renewing their driver's license in person, senior citizens may be required to pass a vision test, and they may also be asked to take a written knowledge test. In some cases, they may also need to take a behind-the-wheel driving test.
However, these requirements are not universally applied to all senior citizens, and the DMV has some discretion in determining when these tests are necessary. For instance, they may require a driving test if they receive information suggesting that a driver may no longer be able to drive safely due to health reasons.
If people are commenting that there is no senior driving exam, they might be misinformed. The best course of action is to check with the official California DMV website or contact them directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information. www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/special-interest-driver-guides/senior-drivers/

Oh yeah, the test is all about semantics more than knowledge. It is to sap us from time and money. I told my husband some of the questions, and he was appalled. Good thing he didn't have to take the test last year. I can't afford not to take the test, as I have to drive places such as doctor, dentists, eye doctors, etc. When all three choices are or could be correct, then it becomes pure guesswork. I could have passed the above test answers easily. Instead, I need to see what they mean the difference is between stopped and parked, at a curb color, as an example.

I studied the ca. book and when I took the senior renewal.the test only three questions were on this test. It had questions that didn’t have anything to do with driving, rules or signs. It had questions about tires I don’t know what to make of this weird test?

SomeQuestions asked seem Ai. Broken incorrectly, and reworded to create confusion. I believe this must be intentional. If failed, they make more money..

I took the test I’m 72 and I failed by one mistakes. Passing is 5 and my score is 6 for all 3 test. I failed because I didn’t fully study about bicyclists I know only the 200 feet to merge to bike lane . But so many questions about it also about the police , the driving privelage. The question Seems the same but different answers so I was confused. Read the book because the question n answere in sample test easy to understand but the real test it seems they twist the question , and for me hard to understand .. so every time you failed the 3 test allowed , you pay again $41 to re apply. Good luck to all seniors..age 70 need to take written test now.. 😢

I passed the test 2/23 my 6th test. Wow I almost cried with 2 mistakes . Luckily my computer gave me same questions which I answered wrong and I remembered them from no. 4 and no. 5. Test.. since I don’t drive in the freeway is really hard for me .. warning signals sign didn’t even show up I guess because they’re easy.. mostly in the book so takes note because some of the questions is different from TH-cam practice test. So I paid for 2 sets of test $82 plus tax $1.74 .. My drivers license will expired this sept n my bday. I feel like won the lotto. Imagined I’m competing with young people with my old brain. No such thing of senior test or senior practice.. just review every thing including in you tube even in 100 items only few will show. Good luck ☘️ to everyone who’s taking the dmv test…

Tailgaters, how to use low beam, high beam and headlight. Hov lane, white yellow red n green lane.. 25 items that’s how I remember my test.. also memorize warning signal signs although only one showed up in my test is yield ahead , octagonal sign 🛑 stop ahead. Pedestrian always has the right of way..

I think the DMV should judge people that are 70 or older about how many tickets and accidents they have.

This doesn’t apply here but I hope someone has the answer to my question about getting the Real Drivers license. I’ve been married 4 times but I don’t have all 3 divorce decrees. I do have my last marriage license and my birth certificate. Can I still get my Real Drivers license? I appreciate this study guide for keeping updated on questions. I fair better on written exams rather than oral exams because I can read the questions more than once if needed.

How about raising the minimum driver age to 25 yrs. Old . This is to stop all the deadly accidents caused by young drivers. That would be in all states.

    • @Appleee..

No. It's not about the age at which they learn but the fact they are just diving into the realm of safe driving, which can overwhelm any new driver regardless of age.

    • @snowwhite5933

It’s true. Some of the question is hard to understand. For example the NEV I read in the book max 25 mph so my answere is 25 but the Correct answer is 35mph..since it’s in computer test i can’t go back to review why.. or maybe the question is different …

Question 1 is very suspect,. Yielding is not a safer way to stop. Other vehicles could be traveling toward the same intersection from a different direction. Stopping would be safer for watching for traffic than just slowing down or yielding

@My test my prep, what is the difference between Seniors Driving Exam and just a regular Driver Exam?

    • @MyTestMyPrep
      @MyTestMyPrep  ปีที่แล้ว +4

Both paper standards are the same. The regular written exam for drivers in California has 46 questions. If you are testing as part of the renewal, the renewal written test has only 25 questions. Take your time and read each question carefully, trying not to read anything extra into the questions. There are no trick questions and only one correct answer per question.

If really the DMV want us to pass the test why they keep twisting the Question they need to put the right Question from the book

@@loveseeds100 I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the DMV written test. It can be quite challenging and sometimes, the questions might not seem to align perfectly with the study materials provided. This can indeed be frustrating, especially when you've put in the time and effort to prepare.
Regarding the question about seeing out of the windshield, sometimes the 'correct' answer might not be what we think is the most practical, but rather what is deemed most important from a legal or safety perspective. If you'd like, I'd be happy to try and help clarify the specific question or topic that confused you.
As for the DMV book, your feedback about it being hard to read is certainly valid. It's important that study materials are accessible and easy to understand for everyone. You might want to let your local DMV office know about your experience - perhaps they can make adjustments for future versions of the book.
Please don't feel discouraged by this experience. Many people have to attempt these tests multiple times before passing, and each attempt is a learning experience. I believe in your ability to pass the test in your next attempt.
