- While I was bored today I stumbled upon StarSpikes Pro 4, a plugin for Photoshop that allows you to easily add star glow or spikes to your images. In this video I'll show you how it works, and give you some tips to get the best results
Here's a link for the plugin, if you want to check it out:

Excellent tutorial on excellent software! The blur stars effect can definitely be useful as a cost-effective alternative to expensive blur star filters.
Thank you 🙏.. i recall having tried doing this with different softwares manually with final results not having that appeal and I just dropped them. This one is so much professional. And like you mentioned, usually I like to reduce the stars too but it’s so much useful when we can apply it to select stars or areas, dragging attention to that area. Truely awesome 👏
The effect is amazing! I like the new features.
I didn't know this existed, thank you.
Thanks Peter. Super pumped to see affinity photo is in the supported apps list 👍
Thanks Peter for this super video. What a powerful plugin.
Can it be also installed in Affinity Photo or is it exclusively working with PS, since I don‘t use PS ?
Regards Thomas
I like this. I might use it on my teeth in selfies!
For me this app is an absolute game changer. My original boring flat open clusters are completely transformed. Some people may say the results are artificial. Who cares ? I want images to record objects I struggled for decades to see as fuzzy blobs. I'm not into imaging diffuse / reflection nebulae for 20 hours. Not enough clear sky time Amazing software.
When I need these spikes I usually put on one of those 8 point spikes glass filters over the lens. Really great with longer focal lengths, 35mm upwards and when tracking. Have had some really nice results with them. I use one of those inexpensive ones that you get on Amazon or Ebay.
So much astro software is developed by tiny teams or solo devs. They tend to develop for Windows first, or exclusively, because it has the largest user base.
Why do you want to add starspikes??
Cool! Thank you for the information
Don't really understand why anyone would voluntarily add spikes using such software. What's the point? It looks unnatural. I can imagine using it for some fantasy fairy tale tasteless looking pictures though. But yeah for people loving this effect the software seems to deliver a good job!
Nice mass effect background music ; - )
Can someone help me understand the pixel size divided by focal length times 206 thing? It seems like if you used a telescope with 1500mm focal length, with the zwo1600 camera, you end up with .52 which is below the minimum of 1....yet I've seen videos of people using that combination and getting great results. What am I missing, here?
Very cool. I think it worth to buy the software after the free tiral, even if one uses this effect once in a bluemoon!
Does this also work on the Sun in a daytime landscape photo?
Dental floss is also a good trick for Star spikes
Is this Mac compatible now? 🥴
thank you very much for this little tutorial.
do you or nanyone else know if the plug in will work with other editing software like ACDSee ultimate?
Greetings
Very gimmicky; don't see the value in this. If you want diffraction spikes, shoot with a reflector telescope with a secondary mirror.
When I have windows labtop I see many apps for mac now when I buy mac is see all apps is got windos 😂😂.
It's because macs are crap.
