I worked at Electro-Harmonix on college vacations in the early ‘70’s. I started sweeping the floors and wound up traveling for them, demonstrating their guitar products (Big Muff, Small Stone Phase Shifter, etc) to store buyers. I was just a kid, but it immediately became clear that Mike attracted and nurtured great, diverse talent. The place (in those days on West 23rd Street) was full of quirky characters who worked their heads off for the boss. Mike Matthews was and is a visionary businessman, a nice guy, and a great mentor who treated his workers very well and was a terrific blues piano player!

As a guitarist who's been playing for over 45 years, IMHO Electro Harmonix is probably the most trusted name in effects pedals. It's the brand most of us grew up with (Who hasn't had a Big Muff mounted on their pedalboard at some point or another). Mike Matthews is a genius.

Thanks Matthews to let us travel around the factory when EHX pedals are born.Here in Brazil I am one of the biggest fans of EHX pedals. I had build a set with HOG2, SuperEgo, 8 Step, B9, C9, K9, Mel9 and Lester K.And I want more.....
I have an EH Cathedral, and after getting some insight to the man who built the company, I'm going to be buying a lot more EH products. We do business with people that we like; and this guy is very likeable.
I had no idea bout' Mike's connection with the Isley Brothers! Funny ... as my cover band just added 'Who's That Lady'. My deep dive research on how Ernie gets the tone for that song led me to a EHX Big Muff pedal paired with a phase shifter. Voila! There's the tone! I went with the Big Muff Triangle model. It achieves that sound perfectly! In fact ... there are two excellent videos on TH-cam that use the song, Who's that Lady, to demo the Big Muff pedal. If interested ... check out the Electro Harmonix video that demos the Triangle model. Also, Sweetwater's demo also uses that song. Easy! Excellent. Rock & Roll! Thanks Mike!

I had the opportunity to work at EHX for a while and absolutely loved working with Mike and the team. Mike truly is a creative genius and a great businessman. the original big muff is and will forever be one of the greatest effect pedals. it isn't fuzz, it isn't distortion and it isn't overdrive. its just the muff. nothing can give you that exact sound. even the reissues are rad if you put an eq behind them to control them more.
I wasnt a huge fan but the new flatiron fuzz is awesome. Came out a few week ago
My EHX pedal in the 70's was an LPB-1. Enabled me to get some natural drive from my Dual Showman on my teens.
Love EHX!! Canyon is a success!! My current EHX collection consists of Canyon, East River Drive, Memory Man 1100tt, Soul Food, Crayon, & Nano POG!!

Years ago I bought a guitar autographed by Lou Reed but my curiosity got the best of me and I went out and purchased an amplifier, the Vox AC15. Loved the sounds that came out of it but wanted more (and wanted a different guitar, purchased a fender jag and an Epiphone 335.). The first pedals I purchased I was not truly satisfied with, it wasn’t until I purchased an NYC Big muff that I truly felt inspired to continue to practice. Then I fell short on money and sold my gear. Just recently got back into guitar and was so pleased to see the classic style muffs reissued for an affordable price, the Ram’s head sounds viscous, will probably get the triangle and Russian at some point. Just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration and the innovative products.

My pedal board has 6-8 EHX pedals on it depending on what type of gig I'm playing.
A kid from the Bronx does really well (Just like my Dad.) My Dad used to tell me stories of how they used a piece of string , some gum and they'd fish out coins from the sewer. :)

I got the flatiron fuzz and #1 echo delay but man I would love to get either a canyon or memory boy
