So many things so damaged that they have become interconnected. I work in care. Care services are in a sorry state, people cannot afford to work in care because of stagnant wages. Often, those who are left are those who love the work or those who see that the understaffing is having a real impact on the quality of life on clients. So they work more, burn out, and things get missed. Often, these things cause more work down the line. Sometimes for other staff, but more likely for another sector. The NHS now has a case of severe sepsis on their hands instead of a round of antibiotics.
Miss Wilson, in room 12, now needs temporary accommodation and building work done... staff couldn't give her more than 20 minutes of care a week, none of which took place in her room, we missed the leak in the room above that's been dripping through the ceiling. The facility is on the hook because they breached the duty of care. Now, the clients' care contribution has to go up. Those who can't afford to pay are covered by local government funding. Similar situations are playing out throughout the county, though. The public purse is spread thin, and taxes probably have to go up again. Or perhaps the coucil faces bankruptcy like we've seen recently.
A new staff member is asked to take the role of duty manager because there's no one else to do it. They don't know that they are meant to fill out the medication docket for the next week. Clients who have regular one on one support with the same staff members each are fine, but there is a new client who moved in recently who is only receiving about half of her support time from the people with 0 hour contracts who are usually working care as a second job (no shade, the struggle is real). They check the medication docket, but it has been haphazardly completed by several different staff members from memory. She doesn't receive her antiphyschosis medication, threatens a staff member and a client with a kitchen knife and then locks the office door and threatens suicide. Later they stop their care contribution because she feels let down and uncared for. She is evicted, despite everyone's best efforts. They have to go back to their old facility, which is both more restrictive and much more expensive a strain on the public purse.
All of these examples are based on things that have happened at my workplace since January 2022. Everyone is exhausted and trying their best. But there's no way to ask someone to do 55 hours worth of work in a 40 hour work week and _not_ have them make mistakes. Clients suffer. Hospital beds are taken up needlessly. The facility has to pay out £15000 for something that should have been impossible. A different care facility is essentially forced to reverse the damage we caused to a client's trust in the entire insitiution of care work. Because something rudimentary was missed.
I don't doubt that these things are happening everywhere. Not just Care. I am just more acquainted with these examples. The point is though is that the ripple effects of under investment just puts more pressure on other bodies... that are also oh so often underfunded. Then it becomes a vicious cycle. A death spiral where, through no fault of their own, the people working are causing more work and not achieving basic standards.

But getting rid of the Tories would be the first step towards changing it all around, that's what should be the anti-Tory voter's main focus. Britain has been broken by the Tories. We had 11 years of good economic growth under Labour (or 'Tory Lite' as some hard left-wingers prefer to call it) - 7 years is the norm. That came to an end when irresponsible bankers (most of whom vote Tory) caused or contributed to the 2008 financial crash. Under the Tories from 2010 onwards our economy simply hasn't flourished and living standards for so many have massively dropped. We owe it to the next generation to obliterate the Tories at the next election. It won't be easy for Labour but at least they care for others a hell of a lot more than most self-serving Tory MPs.

The Conservatives are basing their strategy on the results of a poll, where people were asked various questions and their responses were noted. The questions asked were very specific, the conclusion reached was that people were very concerned about the high immigration figures. The poll, however, did not ask any questions about the cost of living crisis, or the NHS, or food inflation, mortgage rates, energy costs. In other words, they designed the poll to show what they wanted it to show, and excluded any quesions that might jeapordise the conclusion they wanted. It's not a surprise that they are out of touch, it is a surprise at how far out of touch they are. They fully deserve the spanking they are going to get at the next GE.

Plus my MP is/was/who knows now, a leading Tory Brexiteer, in what was once a safe Bucks seat and which voted to remain in EU. Labour have chosen a non local candidate, which is disappointing because it was local candidates who made the seat winnable.
Still, can’t have everything. And the Andy Burnham type of argument is compelling. Even the corporate and so called right-wing mainstream media will need to tread carefully at first, at least appearing to give Labour a fair chance/enough rope. This will depend on popular vote/customers more than seats. No government since the 1930s have received more than 50%. If Labour break that ceiling then ideological opponents have a big problem, and consensus for change is possible even likely if Labour turn out to be competent. Otherwise bold steps will be like treading on ice.

I get the feeling that labour have way more room for manoeuvre this time than 1998. Back then people were sick of the Tories, but were on the whole still on board with the status quo as it was. Just more of the same but better and kinder was an appealing proposition. But there is a widespread mood in the nation now that actually the status quo sucks and people want something different. That is after all the energy the brexit campaign harnessed. Brexit of course didn’t deliver any of that change to ordinary people, so now people are disillusioned but still have that desire for things to be different. Labour can totally grasp that and ride that national sentiment into making actual structural changes that take us away from the soulless heartless everything must be sold or monetised for profit greed is good Thatcherite orthodoxy that we’ve been living under for 40 years and towards something that values people and their ability to enjoy life over their ability to generate profits for someone else. And what’s more I’d say if labour fail to harness this national desires for change and steer it in a positive direction, then other people will. We’ll have brexit 2.0 in 5-10 years. Another group of self interested elites taking advantage of the popular need for change and steering it in a direction that takes the nation even further down a dark path. Just getting labour elected isn’t enough. If they don’t grasp the nettle and take action now it’ll just be a brief reprieve before the madness returns even crueler and more divisive than ever

That is the kind of vision that the Tories have always lacked, they have never been builders, merely plunderers for their own gain. One thing that is guaranteed to happen, when the Tories get back in, and they will, whatever Labour are building, the Tories will cancel it. Whatever Labour have built, the Tories will either pull it down or sell it off. For many years I have feared that the Tories will sell off the NHS, but they have done far worse than that, they have parceled out many treatments to the private sector, working within the NHS to siphon off money to make a profit. Their greed knows no bounds. When they were elected in 2010, the Tories inherited a country that was £600billion in debt, but the economy was growing at 2%, 13 years later the debt has grown to over £2trillion and the economy is hovering around 0.1% growth. There have been economic challenges over the past few years, which they try and paint as the only reason the economy is in trouble, but the truth is that they, by their actions, have crippled the country.

The ‘political class’ has lost its way. Politicians have, en masse, lost touch with the people and indeed reality Labour do not represent the majority in the UK and will be no better than the Tories. The Tories are a shambles and must split. They are no longer a Conservative Party. It’s time for a complete change of the political landscape and the creation of at least one party that listens to what most people want and tailors it’s policies accordingly.

We need to drag the Tories out of the gutter of the far right. Once we get Labour in power and have both parties in center, then we can move Labour to policies that actually work economically and socially by adopting more left lesning policies. Policies that improve infrastructure, wages and services, to improve health income. The economy needs an improvement to the working class people of this country and taxing higher earning people more to stimulate major improvements
