Philippines has that English advantage over Thailand and other Asean countries. Low tourist arrival is generally due to insurgency and terrorism esp. in the South.

I love it that there was no sound of fear from the gringos which is great. When I first went there, I felt the vibe that make Siquijor the mystical, magical, quiet place. I guess, it's just for those who believe. ❤

minor historical correction...the Philippines was colonized by Spain in 1521. The US took over in 1898 after winning the Spanish-American War (as well as Puerto Rico and Guam). The Japanese took over briefly during WWII, then the Americans liberated it and granted independence after the war ended

I like your vlog, but take time to learn a few facts about the place you enjoy. Im part of a Fil-Am family, so I have an advantage BUT, the Spanish period in the Philippines was not followed by "The Japanese taking over for a while"!
The Spanish maintained the Philippines as a colony till 1898 at which time the US took the Philippines as part of the spoils of the Spanish-American war. Almost every public function you see, such as Public works, Post Office and Public Education were established in this Period.
The Japanese army conquered the Philippines at the start of WWII until they were driven out (With the help of Filipino rebels)
as General Douglas MacArthur returned in force to liberate the Philippines. And yes, it was a liberation, as hundreds of thousands were killed by the Japanese Imperial forces.
After failing with plans to essentially integrate the Philippines with the USA, an independence timeline was set for Independence, which was rescheduled due to the Japanese invasion. The history and culture of a place start to make more sense with knowing real historical background. You ever wonder why some towns have things like MacArthur Blvd. or why" there are family names like Philips, Smith, Hall or Montgomery in the Philippines? Some of the American "settler" families
established themselves and the Philippines became their true home, and to this day, their descendants carry their name.
Who can blame them for staying? No matter where I might go, part of my heart is in the Philippines.

I like your uploads. Spain colonized Philippines for over 300 years, then USA took over for 48 years (1898-1946). Japan attacked and occupied Philippines after bombing Pearl Harbor on December 1941. Philippines was a commonwealth of the USA at that time, gave its independence after the war (WW2). I am a retired USAF.
