Can't believe you managed to get Carole Levin on the podcast! I love her work on Elizabeth. "Heart and Stomach of a King" is one amazing read. I'm now going to search for the play here on YT. Just one question...Carole Levin said Elizabeth didn't have time for translations during her reign...but didn't she actually at least some times, reach out for that meditative like activity? She worked on translating Boetius's Consolations of Philosophy in the 1590s, didn't she? She certainly used languages in her compositions of prayers and verses. See L.Marcus and J.Mueller (eds) "Elizabeth I - collected works" and "Elizabeth I - Autograph compositions and foreign language originals". I'm sure Dr Levin is well acquainted with those publications, but maybe some here are not. Do take a look at those edited published collections of Elizabeth's writing. You won't be disappointed.
This was amazing. I thought “oh great, another Elizabeth talk” (sarcasm) and wow I changed my mind really quick. This was excellent and such a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much for posting.

Prof. Levin is fantastic!! So knowledgable and yet able to articulate her thoughts clearly and back them up with facts. Thank you
