100% agree especially with a little height drop & spacing 😎 found a guy on Instagram that builds S65 powered 1 series with the 1M body kit & suspension 🤤
As stated in the video Matthew I stress it’s my opinion and from the experiences I’ve had over the years. The manual as stated works, drive something like a Honda S2000 and you soon realise what a manual box should be. I did state in the video the engine revs to the red line but doesn’t reward for doing so - get your self in an e46 M3 or e92 M3 and you’ll understand where I’m coming from (granted the N54 for daily use is more suitable with the high torque at low RPM but it’s not fun for me when you don’t have to work for the power) BMW don’t make a good manual so auto it is 😅 all my other cars are manual 👍
That does surprise me you find the 1M rev hungry in that case! I think we can both a agree the 1M looks fantastic and is certainly exclusive with its production numbers so will always be a special car. Just because I wouldn’t grab the keys for a Sunday drive doesn’t mean everyone would feel that way 👍 I was waiting some 1M fan boy attacks 😅
@@stoneautomotive Enjoyed your video. I do think the N54 with the "OMG power delivery" at 3K rpm is well suited for the 1M character. I have driven one for more than 6 years and always give me a smile. I think BMW M made the right engine choice here.
One of my favourite M cars, especially in that colour. It’s so wide and those rear arches are almost comical. They’ve been a good buy too, holding their value. The Performance seats are rare but amazing, Did this still have the stupid clutch delay valve like the lesser cars? Removing that improves things a fair bit.
They are stunning to look at indeed, little height drop and some spacing would really finish it off 😎 The driving I was doing I didn’t notice the clutch delay valve but have noticed it in other cars over the years
Great in depth review, just lay off the manual box diss lol. It's one of the reasons people do want them. A 6 speed manual should always be the choice for proper petrol heads, don't matter if DCT's or DSG's are quicker, they still take away that special driver connection with the car somewhat. We don't want tech in these cars, we want a special, rare old school feel, and this is probably one of the last to offer that.
Hi Steve, glad you enjoyed the video 👍 I know many don’t want to hear my thoughts on the manual box in a BMW lol, I’m not against it for the speed - love the manual in my s2000 & even in my clios sport with the uprated shifter it’s just the feel in BMWs is not satisfying (for me) Agree it is a special car though 😎
Hi James good video mate, But do like the look of these cars, I was offered one of these (same colour) from BMW in 2016 for 33k, probably worth more now ! I wonder if my LE500 will go up in value?
Great review, appreciate your honesty. I test drove two of these, but ended up opting for a Japan Red KA401 at half the price. So glad I made that decision!
This video didn’t go down well with the maybe to honest review 😅 great choice though the V8 is a work of art (check out the Karbonius intake video I completed on mine if you really want to make the S65 sing 😬
Good review James. Love the colour and the sound of the engine. Interior is a tad bland though. Glad to hear it's not only my E46 M3 that has a notchy manual box , seems to be a BMW trait.
The very rare performance seats lift the interior. Given it was a skunkworks car, they didn’t really have the time or money to fiddle with the interior.
@@stoneautomotive that chassis can't deal with much more power. I also think a DCT makes the car more boring. The 1m is nimble and loose like an M should be
It effectively paved the way for modern M cars; the OG M2 has a reworked N55. The very latest M engines are worked stock engines. With the WLTP regs and the death of ICE engines on the horizon we’ll never see bespoke M engines line the S65 ever again.
One of the nicest looking BMW’s ever made!

The true successor of the E46 M3, at least for me
2:04 - 450 1M’s came to the UK, but a total of 6309 were produced.
Didn’t know that! Thanks for the update 👍
Best car I've ever owned. Very rev happy and manual box is stunning. Quite unusual to find an auto fan boy for M cars.

Best looking bmw, and the colour😍
Colours looks even better in person too 😎

They are going up in value faster than the e92 but the e92 is more satisfying to drive 😎

Agree with you on most points. Needs a DCT S65 and some Recaros. That would be sensational 👌
Would have been mega with the S65 fitted 😎

Damn he was putting this car down the whole time I think it’s an amazing car
It has the potentially to be an incredible car, I think the problem is I’m a big lover of naturally aspirated engines 🤷♂️
Great video, really insightful. I'm in the market for one so that was really helpful.
Glad you enjoyed Jason 👍

If it had the S65 V8 + DCT I would agree as it looks fantastic, the engine just doesn’t do it for me sadly..
