Ashok Leyland vs TATA.... Which is more powerful? Explained in Tamil by R John Victor
Till early 1990s(1994/95), Tata trucks/buses were more powerful than Ashok Leyland buses/trucks. Ashok Leyland had 120 hp engine while Tata had 130 hp engine(1210,1312,1510,1612 series). In those times, TATA trucks were preferred for Ghats(mountains) due to higher engine power.
In Tamilnadu, during 1994/95, many JJTC corporation luxury buses had TATA engines as compared to TTC buses (Thiruvalluvar buses) which had Ashok leyland engines, since TATA engine was more powerful
Later Ashok Leyland introduced 160hp Hino engine and suddenly overtook Tata in terms of engine output (at that time, TATA didnt introduce 160hp chassis on large scale in market)
Currently, both Ashok Leyland and TATA have products in all engine capacity ranges viz, 160 hp, 180 hp, 225 hp, 320 hp. Hence comparison has to be made on similar models vis-a-vis Ashok Leyland vs TATA
