    I love this game and it might be my favorite of the seasons trilogy. I think I just realized that a cleared marmot hole is more of a tool to use to be more flexible with the tiles I can place in the future, rather than something to always shoot for score-wise.
    First, the burrows are considered covered, so they are already worth 1 point if they are included in my finished rows or first incomplete row. Cleared burrows are worth 1 point, so it's true that the space is technically worth 2 points, but instead of clearing the burrow that piece of tile could have covered an empty space. It "compresses" the play space a little bit, but it isn't actually worth any more points than if I didn't cover the space at all.
    Second, if I win a round, all of my cleared burrows get covered with marmot tokens, so I do end up losing those points. A cleared burrow can be part of a group of holes, but if a marmot token covers it after I win a round, it can break up my group. I hope it's my second hiking pin or else I've lost points, hole groups, AND flexibility for upcoming turns.
    The big thing cleared burrows can be used for is future flexibility with upcoming tile selections, where I can see a future row doesn't have anything that really fits with my board. A cleared burrow can help me out of a tough situation. However, I'm losing out on a lot of points just by setting myself up and using them. When I cover a burrow space without clearing it, I'm covering a space that's already considered "covered" when it comes to scoring, and I lose the 1 point I was getting for the cleared burrow, which was already a wash.
    I'm now going to try to work around the burrows as often as I can, only clearing them in certain situations. But this is just a theory at this point since I haven't kept it in mind for many games. It's just so satisfying to clear burrows!
    Sorry for the long comment, I just think Spring Meadow is amazing and apparently I have a lot to say about it! Love your work!

    I have been loving your series so far but I believe at 31:11 that the bigger piece is the better one to go for because while you were losing a point from the burrow you still gain one point more than the other tile putting your total at 93. I think at least if I understood the scoring correctly. Keep up the great work!

    I'm so conflicted. The mechanics of this one seem the most solid of the trilogy. But the theme...is so disappointing (personal opinion). The other two, Indian Summer and Cottage Garden, are so much more colorful and engaging. I understand the idea of revealing grass but still... Either way, love watching you guys! Awesome job as always!

      Disappointing theme? You basicly take turns melting the snow away. Okay that sounds boring, but it means you're the sun. THE SUN! How often do you get to play as a giant scorching ball of nuclear chainreactions?

    First time I'm discovering this series and it seems quite interesting. Gonna watch the rest of it.

    You say you play the role of a hiker (presumably on a mountain hike) in this game and the theming reflects on that, but there's nothing about the gameplay that's reminescent of mountain hiking. To me it feels more like you're playing the role of the sun, ushering in the spring season by melting the snow away. I bought this some days ago, and played twice sofar; consider me hooked. The peg-in-hole gratification combined with opportunistic grouping creates a game that's satisfying on both a primal and a cerebral level.

    The only way Naveen could win this, was to expand his border so that the tiles he wanted could fit! Excellent presentation and gameplay guys as always!

    Come to think of it, this game is particularly suited for people with poor eyesight. No smalprint-rules on cards, no city names on the gameboard...

    I enjoyed this one the most. I felt the others were almost bogged down by their respective, sometimes odd mechanics and trying to be something they were not, whereas this one hit the nail on the head with what it was trying to be and flows beautifully.

    The tile laying games are ok, but I'm really looking forward to you getting into the other Uwe games, especially Feast for Odin because it seems like it might be one that I would enjoy.

      A feast for Odin has tile-laying, so maybe they will make a video covering it.

    Recent subscriber and love your videos! Any chance you might be looking to do a walkthrough/tutorial gameplay of Merchant's Cove. Not alot of content on how to guides on this game and was looking to see if i might be interested in it.

    Did he forget those two additional picknick basket points at the end? That was a 94 pt TIE! The player with the most cleared burroughs wins in this case.

    question. at the end of the first scoring phase. why didnt you have to fill the holes and he did? ok, rewatched. if you win the round you have to cover them up?

  • @gutterspud
    @gutterspud 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Oh no! You are playing one of my favorite games, but incorrectly! You do *not* need to cover every hole on the board with a hole in a tile. You can plan around them, and they even count as a covered square during scoring. I only know this because I made the same mistake, and it really changes how you play the game after that.

    I feel Naveen’s pain at the end. When I lose by such a small margin, I recount to see if I can bs some points for myself.

    • @EmmaNovaheim
      @EmmaNovaheim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always feel better losing my a small margin than someone else running away with it. But still gutting if games finish so close!

    Maybe the Uwe winter game are still to come. Spring Meadow i think is the best tile game that i saw in the series, but God, such a boring theme LOL.
