The bird was alive but in the cat's mouth. I mean, the bird was really in the cat's mouth. Not a little bit of the bird but the whole torso of the bird. I'm thinking "Hell no. I'm not going to have the cat tearing this bird up into little pieces inside the house. It will leave a mess." so I pick the cat up and the cat drops the bird and before the bird even hits the floor, it flies across the street to safety. So I guess... 'never give up hope' and 'be ready for opportunity'.
