Awesome video I just help a neighbor of mine who has a 74 Karmann Ghia convertible she's in her 70s and just uncovered it after being a car cover for 5 years, it's forest green and we bumped it up with Clay bars it looks fantastic we got the all the chrome polished out, and she's going to let me drive it tomorrow I can't wait.
Lol Why is everyone mad that he's "reviewing" the car. How the car drives is part of it, isn't it? How it shifts, starts, accelerates, how it feels, is all part of it. If he talks a lot it's because he's not only trying to make a review, but also because he's communicating things to the owner at the same time and making sure he's not going to screw something up. Talk a bit less, sure. But some people are just saying some dumb things
yeah, a lot of details about the drive like the way the stick shift moves about is something you can't feel through the video. Glad the audio comments are still aplenty
Some people can't understand that there's videos out there that *they* will not like, but that a *large number of other people* will like. They believe that every video for a channel they follow must be made with THEM in mind.
I did that to my karmann ghia. It has a 1.6l with dual carburetors and a header to make around 70hp. Old 356s had about the same level of power! Also, I lowered it all around and put period wheels from 1971 on it. I also put large sway bars and rebuilt the entire suspension. The car drives like a dream. The ghia in this video has to be worn to high hell if the ride is as bad as mr regular says it is. I also can cruise 70mph on the highway with one finger on the wheel and it feel very planted!
My first car was a 74 Beetle, same color as this Ghia. At the time I couldn't wait to be rid of it, but hearing the Ghia fire up brought back some fond memories. Thank you.
I had one. 1974 coupe. Its a bug in better clothing. With the short throw shifter and a medium sized person it was okay to drive. It lacked power of course. I traded it in on a 1978 280Z limited edition. A world apart.
This guy seems so new to all this makes the car look like it was built on a different planet. If he wasn't so tall and his foot.not so wide the car would be ok.
how's that thing compared to your falcon with the original engine? Aircooled vw's were a right of passage in the 70's and 80's. Almost everybody had one until they could afford something else...or for a winter car because the rear engine imparted a lot of traction over the drive wheels.
love the ping of the door closing at 0:05. and the dash is more Porsche-like than I expected, right down to the giant crack in it, and the headliner too.
I was thinking about buying an old Karmann Ghia but after seeing this I changed my mind. It reminds me of my 1970 Porsche 911. solid as a bank vault but slow as tree sap.
I can tell this is your first time driving a Volkswagen of that vintage. Everything you talked about are well known idiosyncrasies to anyone who has owned a Beetle or Ghia. Hell, even a Porsche 914.
The sheer numbers of ACVW's I've seen with the cheap plastic fuel filter between the pump and carb....oh god. VW didn't ever do that....why do owners think that is a good idea?!
Found one of these on Offerup near me for about 2100, paint is mixed-matched, dents all over, missing headlights , amonsgt other things but I still really want to get it. Should I?
It must have a heater lever illumination lamp because that came with the yellow heater knobs. Other than the cracked dashboard top that's a very nice interior.
What’s all the hubbub about? Have you never driven a Volkswagen Bug? A VW is probably the simplest car in the world to drive, but you guys don’t seem to be able to figure it out.
I need some feedback. With the last Android TH-cam app update the search function stopped working on all my devices. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Thanks
Are you kidding? Regular drives a variety of cars all the time and considering how different each is from the other, I'm stunned he handles them as well as he does - especially the first time behind the wheel.
So, you don't like the car. And you don't have any experience driving a stick. Well, that's the way it was. And by the way it's not a Mustang and never was.
Why the hell is everyone complaining about the upload time? You realise that you can watch youtube videos whenever you want, right?

There's a term for people like that, Michael. They're called "assholes."
I've always wanted to see one of these given the full race treatment like an old Porsche, they've got such a fast looking bod
Would look so sexy

"High high high high NOT IN GEAR"
This helped my birthday get of to a good start
Thomas Moss happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!!!
good starts to other days to you!
eat food, drink beer, succeed and be happy.
Funny because it's my birthday too

What happened to the intern? Tell us?
superapple4ever he probably helps with filming/editing
It's just like Welcome to Nightvale. ;)
Mike Rich possibly but from what I understood he was going to be making his own videos as well. Like with that Scion.
The car needs some replacement bushings in the shift and a clutch adjustment. The engine sounds sweet, like a fond memory.
I haven't seen an RCR comments section this salty since Regular shat on a Porsche 944.
The shift pattern diagram is meant to be looked at as if it were in 3-D. Redline on that engine is 4200.
In the summertime I pretty much daily drive a 69 ghia, trust me it’s fucking easy to drive
I had one. 1974 coupe. Its a bug in better clothing. With the short throw shifter and a medium sized person it was okay to drive. It lacked power of course. I traded it in on a 1978 280Z limited edition. A world apart.

As an owner of a '64 Beetle the reverse gear in my transmission does the same "popping" while staying in gear.
this was just flippin' cool! felt like I was in the backseat riding along.
love the ping of the door closing at 0:05. and the dash is more Porsche-like than I expected, right down to the giant crack in it, and the headliner too.
oh man that sound.. just like my 71 superbeetle. god i miss it.
I love the way it sounds.
I like these driving videos.
I was thinking about buying an old Karmann Ghia but after seeing this I changed my mind. It reminds me of my 1970 Porsche 911. solid as a bank vault but slow as tree sap.
We had a 1972 Karmann Ghia and a 1972 convertable super beetle, that crap was fun to drive
My best friend in high school had a red convertible model. This brings back memories.
I can tell this is your first time driving a Volkswagen of that vintage. Everything you talked about are well known idiosyncrasies to anyone who has owned a Beetle or Ghia. Hell, even a Porsche 914.
You want a pedal box way to the middle? Try a SAAB two-stroke or V4.
On what planet does a 1974 car have an adjustable steering wheel
I yelled out "Hell nahl. It's a 1974 car!" He had to be joking.
lol maybe a Cadillac or a Rolls, but no way on a VW.
my 1972 oldsmobile toronado had a tilt/telescopic steering wheel.
Redline lies at about 4500-5500rpm (depending on the engine) not at 6k
6000 would be blowing it up lol 3500 4,000 tops.
I thought the same thing. I get the impression the owner didn't know a whole lot about his car, or might have been a little shy.
5500
Thanks for the 1 am upload
Have a day
My neighbor's karmann ghia recently caught fire...
Yup, i saw that fuel filter in the video too. And with no hose clamps either, just an accident waiting to happen...
The sheer numbers of ACVW's I've seen with the cheap plastic fuel filter between the pump and carb....oh god. VW didn't ever do that....why do owners think that is a good idea?!
all I got out of him was "gas was just pouring on to the engine" so yea...
it could be a fuel filter.
VW engine fires are pretty spectacular if the magnesium block catches fire too.
Watched one catch on fire about a year ago lol
Man why you uploading at 4:00 AM?!
*why am i up at 4 AM?*
Did he say, 2CV?
I had a 69 Ghia and it had the same dashboard crack.
Mine had it too.
Great vid man, keep them up
Found one of these on Offerup near me for about 2100, paint is mixed-matched, dents all over, missing headlights , amonsgt other things but I still really want to get it. Should I?
It must have a heater lever illumination lamp because that came with the yellow heater knobs. Other than the cracked dashboard top that's a very nice interior.
I'd love one of those cars. They're beautiful
I wanna drive one of these so BAAAAAAD!!!
owner says it's nice on the highway but review says it's terrifying
They’re fine on the highway. Compared to other small sporty cars if the time they were in fact very good.
What’s all the hubbub about?
Have you never driven a Volkswagen Bug?
A VW is probably the simplest car in the world to drive, but you guys don’t seem to be able to figure it out.
Por fin volvió el volante a la izquierda. Gracias.
"There, I got an extra inch." ... yeah, you wish it was that easy.
Why at 3 am?
I owned a 68 ghia and miss it. They need to make an electric karmann ghia
Come test my MG Midget.
good job you've not forgotten to put "MG" into the sentence.
I need some feedback. With the last Android TH-cam app update the search function stopped working on all my devices. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Thanks
Soooo did you crash the car show, or no?
we live vicariously thru you as you drive sir, at least I do, I am disabled, Thanks for these videos!!
Do a 1996 dakota
this video really robs you of credibility.
3:56, Jesus those shifts....
Are you kidding? Regular drives a variety of cars all the time and considering how different each is from the other, I'm stunned he handles them as well as he does - especially the first time behind the wheel.
Mr Regulars laugh sounds more and more like Homer Simpson these days
I seen this car on the street the xterior is beautiful but the interior looks so ahead of it's time from steering wheel design to gauges
I wonder if the Audi TT was meant to be a new Karman ghia. Seriously.
B bo It would make sense, but Audi TTs were focused more towards performance
Seems to have enough power for everyday traffic. This late version has almost twice as much horsepower as the original one.
Love the laugh 0:06
So, you don't like the car. And you don't have any experience driving a stick. Well, that's the way it was. And by the way it's not a Mustang and never was.
Want some cheese with that wine?
I remember my first time driving a manual...
poor-poor mans porsche
In Germany, it had the nickname "secretaries' Ferrari" (Sekretärinnenferrari).
the ghia has more soul and beauty than any Porsche
yeah no it's a beetle for people who thought they were too good to drive a beetle
You do have nice, wide feet.
A good firm understanding.
You know they crashed the car show ;)
Ah 1AM uploads...
yay.
I think people need to vist Doug DeMuro on you tube he test drives super cars on You Tube this must be his brother. You will see what I mean.
I gotta say, most americans don't know how to shift gears, most of them sucks at manual gearbox
I've seen p 51's start faster
More Ave references
got em
I see my car :)
The driver presents much drama, is funny.
you sure do complain a lot
Drive like Rick Booth
2:18 Look in the mirror
What about it?
I want 1
Redline is more like 4500 to 5000
*Pizza Time*
Day 101: Small Dog Review
6 minutes of complaining
pan sie musi najperw nauczyc jezdzic , podem dopiero to fotografowac na YT

He whimpers a lot.
People are really pissy about this video. Have some HOT BROWN before posting, eh?
First?
Logan West nope!
actually you are first xd
Terrible driver. A Karmann Ghia is not at all difficult to drive.
Smh, can't drive a carb car....guess you have to be old like me.
That does NOT look pleasant to drive, hah.
yo yo yo DEZE DUDES ZUCK
