Jockey's Ridge State Park

In 1973 Carolista Baum sparked a movement to halt development threatening Jockey’s Ridge when she stood in front of a bulldozer. This began grassroots efforts of many local citizens who worked tirelessly to protect the largest sand dune on the east coast and in 1975 create North Carolina’s 22nd state park.
