The biggest fundamental difference between North Indian states and Kerala is the type of foreign influence they had in history. While North Indians got the savage and uncultured Mughals and exploitive Britishers of East India Company, Kerala had mingled with the Arab traders and Christian missionaries. While North Indians lost their inherent wealth, culture, occupations, Keralites who were once very poor got uplifted by the charity work from Christian missionaries and trading with Arabs. And much later, the early leaders of Communist Party like EMS Namboodripad, A K Gopalan, Nayanar, and others, ensured decent educational and medical facilities for the people. Even the royal family of Travancore were kind to lend their support in establishment of schools for the marginalised community children. The educated Keralites were ready to grab the opportunities that opened in Gulf countries and also in various parts of India and the world. However, the mingling of Keralites with foreigners led to the exchange of ideas in arts, architecture, etc. Malayalis learnt about the importance of beauty, and more importantly natural beauty in surroundings. And how it helps tourism industry and business in general. Kerala became a popular destination for tourists around the globe. North Indians can do it but they need to have a beginning with good basic education and health facilities. If you can't teach good manners to the children, there is no point in bemoaning their behaviour when they grow up to be the uncouth citizens.
Not true. Kerala was equally poor during independence. However education was encouraged even before independence thanks to Christian missionaries and benevolent kings. The word “pallikkoodam” in Malayalam for school literally means a building attached to church. The education made the whole difference.
@@AKI1959M What exactly is "not true" according to you? I think you are merely rephrasing what I mentioned in my original comment. There is no reference to Kerala being a rich state before or right after independence. The poverty in terms of wealth in Kerala in those times is a known fact, but there's no poverty of a positive outlook due to the charity work of Christian missionaries and others. However your inference about "pallikoodam" to be associated with churches only may not be the only truth. In medieval Kerala, before Christian missionaries arrived, Jain Derasars and Buddhist viharas were known as 'Ezhuthupally Pally. When Budha bhikshus started small schools, they too were called Pallikkoodam. Even Muslim mosques are called palli. Anyways, Malayalis got wholeheartedly into educating themselves in time. We can surely agree on that.

Politics or to say political persons are not sperate or alien to Kerala society particularly, because those people in political positions are from the same society that we live, so how a society is, reflected upon the political system. If society is corrupt the same will reflect upon the politics. So it's people as a whole who determine a society or politics in particular.

Positive things of Kerala are 1) all educated, doesnt mean that all are highly educated. 100% can read and write, and maximum are middle standard . 2) every one knows necessity of maintaining neatness and cleanliness, maintaining personal hygiene. Nobody throws waste on road or public place,if any one notice, someone is doing that, immediately he/she will try to stop him or scald him.(in towns and cities, yet few do it during night, in darkness. 3) Main quality is every Malayali interferes when someone bis misbehaving with others, even police or govt authorities doing something against the rules. People are not reluctant to involve , not afraid of police case etc, that is not the case of other states and cities. Even a murder on road in broad light happen, people close there eyes afraid of leagal headaches. At next door if some one is murdered, next door people wont open their door. It was horrible during Covid. Nobody dared to see or enquire about a person suffering from Covid or anything , next door, so much so that, every clinics downed shutter, doctors sat at home, hospitals barricaded, blocked entry for patients(any disease). ( I personally affected this, as I lost both my mother and wife during Covid, one expired due to old age issues, and wife due to stroke she had years back) suddenly they fell sick, deteriorated, but No medical assistance I could provide. I took both all around in my car and every hospital was shut. Even after death, to get a death certificate(without which cremation is not possible) I had to run around with dead body, without any help from anyone. This never will happen in Kerala, that is the speciality, people will voluntarily come forward to help, they will kick open hospitals and make the authorities listen, attend. Even I saw, during Covide Asha workers, govt health workers visit people of covid affected, supply food, medicine, and give instructions, etc, that was simply remarkable. Even dead bodies of covid affected were given funeral as usual, with limitted attendance, Not thrown to river or cremated like animals, street dogs. While all these are fine, I fail to understand, why malayali addicted to liquor and drugs despite attaining education, despite fully aware how these two spoil health and life. Secondly, every malayali moving out of Kerala works hard and try to lead decent life, why people staying behind do not work, and waste their time sitting idle or just indulging in politics, then fall into debts, then commit suicide etc.
It's true you don't find keralites spiting tobacco at corners of the buildings or any surroundings. Not just kerala even Tamilians doesn't spit. Education imparted by Christian institutions made Kerala like this. No doubt.Look at the educational institutions Hospitals. World's nursing community is totally dominated by malayalis.
Christian institutions started educational institutions started all over India, even many places in present day Pakistan. Many places in neighboring states… why those states not perform as Kerala in many levels
@@vijishathilatt4096 It is because of the proportion of population that was served by these institutions are very high compared to anywhere else in India. The reason was that, Kerala had so many migrants from Israel, Persia, Arabia who came for the spices; because of which it was easy to transform the state with education (Christian folks who existed from before adopted English education easily, which motivated every other community). But there was a dark past for Kerala.Kerala was one of the worst places to live in the world before 18th century, because of the caste system; caste system in Kerala that evolved during the Travancore rule was so worse that, even though the land was rich of resources, its caste system made it difficult to make people productive. There was even slave trade in the state. British and Roman Catholic church had a major role in fighting against such caste. Even though they did it for their own selfish reasons, it helped the state fortunately.
Christianity is slow poison in Kerala. Islam is poison. Kerala really needs to grow up in development n providing jobs here. No point in educating and going outside and work.
Compared to North India, Kerala truly feels like a heaven. Having lived in Mumbai for the past two years, the stark contrast in quality of life is hard to ignore. Here, everything revolves around money, yet the facilities often fall short of what we take for granted in Kerala. While people focus on keeping their homes beautiful, there’s little regard for the upkeep of shared spaces. Spitting is alarmingly common, and one has to watch every step while walking to avoid either spit or dog waste. Even in otherwise scenic walkways, the situation is disheartening. Ironically, many people here seem oblivious to these conditions and carry an air of superiority despite living amidst such challenges.
I’m from Kerala & it’s not like Europe. There’s enough dirt to remind us that we’re still in India. Since it’s an highly dense state, there’s plastic waste all over. Yes, but we don’t chew Khaini! I hope North Indians also stop this!
Yes, Kerala is no doubt a brilliant case study when it comes to social development indicators like universal health, but to call it a world class state is a little too far fetched. Mr Debashis chatterjee seems to be living in his own isolated island in IIMK. A simple question , why the youth is leaving and making future in Europe and US if what he says is right ! Taking IIMK to high ranks could be a direct correlation between Mr Chaterjee‘s spiritual and religious affiliation which in in consonance wiith the incumbent government's value system. He is a brilliant marketing mind and a superb speaker. I was just looking at the tech unicorns in India and the entrepreneurs list. Very few from IIMK make the list when compared to IIMA or IIMB. Of course, that‘s not the only criteria for institutional ranking.
People from all states are leaving. Punjab and Andra Pradesh nearly account for a quarter of the students. Kerala is nowhere near the top states in the case of student migration.
@@govind2543 . Absolute numbers they may be more but whats the proportion of youth leaving? Isnt that more important than absolute numbers? B/w it was a response to Mr Chaterjee‘s view of Kerala as a world class state which i do not agree. Maybe in literacy and health but there are wide gaps in employability, infrastructure, societal judgements, lack of excellence and professionalism etc. The simple question is why should the youth leave Kerala if it is a world class state? People in Gulf return, but those who migrate to US and Europe rarely return even after making money for generations. So its not economics alone. Kerala has to address many of these deeper issues.
@@evermorecurious91 when did I say it is bad? Calling kerala the world standard state does not augur well for its outlook if it's people don't find the comfort here. Picture this , in some years you find a small state lurking in the feet of Indian subcontinent with senior citizens only and with AI robots helping them to their daily chores, the sons and daughters watching all this from the virtual reality screens in Europe and US and enjoying the conversation similar to Mr Chaterjee that "Kerala is a world beating state'. Food waste is typically composted.

Beautiful explanation. 👌
@@jishqu Thanks for your kind appreciation 🙂

@@payyoobif up can make tag line " if you don't see uttarpradesh, you haven't seen India".why can't Kerala makes tourism tag line god's own country
Politics or to say political persons are not sperate or alien to Kerala society particularly, because those people in political positions are from the same society that we live, so how a society is, reflected upon the political system. If society is corrupt the same will reflect upon the politics. So it's people as a whole who determine a society or politics in particular.

Great feedback from Debs. IIMK ❤❤
I heard about this man. He is a very nice person with high values. That's the reason why he is talking like this. Thank you so much. North Indians still have high values regardless of how high his position is and how high his educational qualifications are. They are simple people. I visited some of the north Indian states. People are so simple and so nice
Every state has it's plus and minus. We know our minus 😀.
A lot of poor people went to middleeast in 70's and 80's and made money. They obiviously send their kids to school. So, slowly education became the main priority of poor people too and now everyone goes to school
It will happen in other states too. People are coming from all over India to work in Kerala. They are sending money home, their kids will go to school too.but, hoepfully, they will keep their culture, values and love for their country in their hearts. Please do not change. Be like this person who is down to earth.
People from other parts of India are coming to Kerala for work??😂. What type of jobs?? Parota making or daily wage earners??
@@longerodds5077 yes, daily wagers. Most of the daily wagers get Rs. 1000 a day., some more than that. ( except Palakkad, It's a border district. May be that's why) The one who works at home usually tell us how much they want. We are giving 900 plus food or money for food.
Malayalis encourage them to send their kids to school. Kids are all going to school. A Rajasthani guy from my mother's village recently graduated from Engineering college. His father is working as a construction worker and they build a house back home and are planning to go back..

A very balanced thought. As a Malayali brought up in Delhi and studied at top universities of India I agree with what he says. Kerala is quite ahead in terms of many indicators of human development but some aspects of governance lacks vision for encouraging quality education and institutions.
Unfortunate thing is that we, as a matter of fact not only us but all southern states, are now squeezed by the union government in all possible ways. It is very sad that a government which was elected by the uneducated people of the north can impact our life negatively now.
Absolutely correct.

Proud to be an Indian🔥 from Kerala❣️
Good words from an authentic person
It's true you don't find keralites spiting tobacco at corners of the buildings or any surroundings. Not just kerala even Tamilians doesn't spit. If you go to south their railways stations are clean and well maintained. People are sensible and they do have their own issues but overall these 2 states are really good states.
True that Keralites don't spit tobacco juice everywhere. But they do spit phelm everywhere, they piss everywhere because there is not a single public toilet anywhere except the stinking ones in bus stand, keralites throw garbage everywhere because there is no concept of garbage bins.
It's common that Tamils poop on railway and roads. Tamils are very popular in this.
ALSO in kerala people don't defecate in the open.mostly evey house has toilets.

Kerala is good only for politics. Present Kerala state is still 50 years back.
True
Absolutely. I am a kerala and proud of it.
Someone who has an actual point in the comment section. 😊
@@CallmeSJK Why is migration bad? It's a good sign that people are more aspirational. If govt. cannot do good for society, why should people suffer?
@@evermorecurious91 when did I say it is bad? Calling kerala the world standard state does not augur well for its outlook if it's people don't find the comfort here. Picture this , in some years you find a small state lurking in the feet of Indian subcontinent with senior citizens only and with AI robots helping them to their daily chores, the sons and daughters watching all this from the virtual reality screens in Europe and US and enjoying the conversation similar to Mr Chaterjee that "Kerala is a world beating state'. I know I am going a bit too far, but can reality be far behind?
