Dear Hank, one day you will stand before God. Why are you misrepresenting Jesus' Words? When our Lord said that He will build His church He wasn't talking about a building! WE are the Church! ("Christ in you..." Col.) Romans 7:6; "We have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit."
Under the New Covenant we now live and are guided by Holy Spirit in All things, including our giving. As the Bible says, Give cheerfully, NOT tithe cheerfully.
Looking at Scripture in the proper historical context:
The tithe was for Jews to help the levite priests who were busy looking after the temple and therefore could not make a living otherwise like farming the land.
But we are doing God's work today, just like the Levitical priests. It takes money to run a church.
Absolutely. Why don't we just tell that to our congregation? That, in fact, would mean being honest! God doesn't need our money. It is the churches who need it with their buildings and staff, secretaries and internet.
On that note, let's look at the Scripture in Acts 17:24 and 25, which, I think will wrap up our conversation: "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples (houses) made by human hands."
So much to, "Welcome to the house of God." or "Isn't it great to be in the House of God?"
The Lord says that He now lives in people by His Holy Spirit. "Christ in you, the hope of glory." (Col. 1:27)
Also: "Where 2 or 3 are gathered in my name, I'm right there." (Matt.18:20)
That would mean when a couple of Christians get together in their home, it then becomes God's house because He is right there.
Acts 17:25 addresses the issue of "Giving to God." "God is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.…"
My God he is such a fake. He been saying the same stuff for years all bullshit.
