The village of Hamble lies on The Solent (Southampton Water) and has some very interesting Second World War / WW2 history. One weekend my son and I decided to take a trip to see if we can find any WW2 bunkers in Hamble or pillboxes... and we did.
In this video you see us exploring the Bofors gun tower platform on Hamble Point shore, then one of the Extended Defence Officer (XDO) Posts at Hamble. This bunker in Hamble served a very interesting purpose.
We then had a quick drive to Satchell Lane in Hamble to find a pillbox that guarded the WW2 airfield location.

Hi thanks, very kind of you to say. I noticed that too when editing this video during the week. If there are any other places you think I should go visit, please do say and will see if we can go find out about it.

Hi other places of interest that spring to mind are
Two pillboxes in almost mint condition under the bridge at Redbridge to guard the railway line into Southampton
The air raid shelter that held hundreds in Southampton city centre the entrance is by georges restaurant and is still usable but unsure how you would get permission to go down there
The church at Fawley that was bombed during the war and then rebuilt it also has part of the bomb on display by one of the church windows
Obviously there’s hurst castle several bofors guns and searchlights as this was used to protect the Solent
Tonnes of areas not seen by the public there
Fort nelson this was used as a munitions store and a barracks and when you go underground there you can see the graffiti on the walls done by the soldiers stationed there showing the hun and hitler and many other pictures and phrases to promote the war effort

The (replica) gun was on the platform until a few years ago ( you can see the lighter mark on the concrete when you walk past the upper side)

You should go to the top end of Bassett green road and look at the nuclear bunker that is now a gun club

I see DMOE has been there, a railway grafitti artist. No respect for history. Great the postition is still there.
