There are layers to the song. The title of the song and the whispers at the beginning and the end draw inspiration from the movie Like Crazy, which is about a relationship that falls apart because of distance caused by outside forces. Jimin has also said that his whole album is about his emotions during the pandemic, which forced some distance between all of us (he would have also been facing his and his group’s mandatory enlistment in the military, which was set to happen in a grand send off after their Map of the Soul:7 album, but their plans were delayed because of the pandemic and not wanting to leave things on a sour note like that). Jimin said in an interview that the “dream” he doesn’t want to wake up from is BTS.
I think largely the song is about escapism from a negative cycle of thoughts/emotions (perhaps the pain and fear of separation and what that might do to his relationships with his loved ones, his group members, and his fans), which are represented by the muck that seeps in from the walls or covers the floor whenever he’s alone. The escapism is temporary but he’s clinging to it, using alcohol to numb himself and hoping morning never comes. The characters in the Like Crazy movie also tried to escape the reality of needing to separate, but delaying and avoiding it only made their issues worse.
There is also the “she” referenced in this song who is the one who draws him into this realm of escapism where “there’s not a bad thing here tonight.” In the MV she’s the muddy hand in a leather jacket that pulls him into the club. We also get an in focus shot of her face later on (the rest of the club goers are indistinct and blurry) before she faces off with Jimin on the dance floor. Then, the room spins, there’s a cut, and Jimin is facing himself in the mirror singing about his reflection, because it turns out the “she” was him all along. In the English version of this song there are even lyrics at this part that say “all my reflections I can’t even recognize.” Mirrors were a huge theme in the promotion of this album. And to reinforce that “she” is actually a reflection of him, at the end of the MV when Jimin returns to his room alone, his hand is now muddied too, just like hers was at the beginning.

@@TooOldForThisShit72 yes, absolutely! The choreography just confirmed everything I’d seen in the MV for me. And in one of his live performances for one of the music shows, he starts off looking in a mirror just to drive the point home. It fits the album theme of Face/facing himself.

BTS has not broken up, they are in a temporary break because they have to serve their country and join the military. Jin, J-Hope and now Suga, have already enlisted and they also released solo projects. Jin only released a single with Coldplay and it is a very special song because it’s a love song to ARMY 💜

@@Kings-003 Sure! It’s The Astronaut. He released before he enlisted to say goodbye to ARMY for a little while. He even went to Argentina to perform it live with Coldplay at their concert. It’s a very special performance, Cris Martin gave a very beautiful speech 💜

BTS leave Easter eggs everywhere in their music videos. 2023 has been year of solo work as each member temporarily leaves the group for mandatory military duty. Three have gone & the remaining four will be going soon. There will be a reunion in 2025-2026. These young men consider each others as brothers. Meanwhile you can explore their first 10 years. BTS live is great. Their performances, particularly the ones that require dancing are unmatched. I recently watched their last live performance held in Busan for free (part of the government's promotion for the 2030 world expo) and held before Jin enlisted. It was on Amazon Prime & free. They performed for 2 hours+ and did not use opening acts. I have heard that the live concerts are really something. Unfortunately I will never have the experience. I am 70. I am enjoying your reactions. Better than some. 💜
All 7 have solos projects that shows their different personalities and styles. Jimin’s album Face is about his feelings during the pandemic. If you get a chance to see their discography it’s mind blowing. I can’t imagine what they will do in 2025 when they’re finished with their military service with new aspects on life experiences.
All of them keep saying that they're taking the time to learn new skills and explore new music so when they get to 2025 they can make something new. And their eyes sparkle when they say it 💜
Who knows what they'll create then? But it'll be heartfelt and beautiful. I can't wait.

I have two years since I found BTS and I've carried them with me since. In late 2021, I found I'd lost my connection with music. I was a theater and dance kid, my whole life. With all the latest music, it felt all the new words in music had no meaning.
I found an old Ellen video with Fake Love being performed by BTS. And I don't know what hit me more. The music, the words or the dancing. All of it got me!
Please take time to watch a BTS Documentary or learn a little more of their journey from beginning to end. It is well worth it. Those boys have countless songs spanning across endless genres of music!
Their words are their own and they pour literal blood sweat and tears into their work for us! And bonus, they are super funny comedians as well!

Yes they’re songs and mv’s are usually very deep and complex. They truly care about their art. That is what catches so many peoples attention. They are all such kind and intelligent people and that is why they have such a big fan base and they definitely deserve it! I don’t like saying they’re the best because they have stated before that it puts a lot of pressure on them when they hear that but in my opinion they are the best artists right now. They truly have changed my life. Also no they did not break up, three of the members are in the military at the moment. They all will be serving before 2024 because of South Koreas mandatory military service. But they are only on a hiatus and will be back together as a group in 2025. They have all re-signed their contracts for the SECOND time, the first being in 2018 and they have said on many occasions that they aren’t doing it for money but for their fans and their love of music. They promised they will come back as a group so that’s what us fans are planning to see in 2025. They all are doing solo work now for the time being and they are getting the chance to explore their other creative sides and they all are trying something new which is really cool to see. 💜
