I remember picking one up at Guitar Village not intending to buy it. But strummed it once and fell in love. Went for lunch and and decided to buy it with some money my Mum left me. The OM-28 will be forever with me and will always remind me of my Mum. It's a wonderful guitar. Congratulations to you, and thanks for reminding me of the day I got mine, a special day! 😊
AAAWWWW! May all your dreams come true always 💜✨ Congratulations! Can't wait for you to post video of you playing this sweet instrument of your wishes! Yaaaaa!
Congrats mate! Have had my OM-28 for 10 years now, and it’s a guitar that only gets better with time. I also own the D18, and you’re right - those 2 guitars cover all the ground you need! Mahogany and Rosewood heaven! Happy playing brother 😎🎸
I ordered my OM28 with the LR Baggs Anthem this week and will receive it hopefully on Wednesday next week and like you I wanted it for ages. Not because of Eric Clapton but because of Paul Simon who plays OM42s which I unfortunately cannot afford. I absolutely understand how you feel.
Isn't the only difference between the 28 and the 42/45s the level of bling on them? the Abilone binding etc? they both have Rosewood back and sides and the sitka spruce top?
@@thomasharris7881 True. There was an OM42PS signature model in the nineties with a sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides and a lot of bling bling and abalone binding. Only 223 were made. I would never buy a signature model, whether electric or acoustic. I'm a player, not a collector.
Yes of course he does. Unfortunately I couldn’t stretch to a 45, plus would be so worried I would damage it, and I certainly would as I play my guitars a lot. Haha
That is fantastic Mike! Mary sounds beautiful! I had the same love for and desire to get a 000-28. Like you, I had other Martin's but I really wanted a 000. I finally got mine in 2018. It was a new reimagined edition. I still love it just as much today as ever! Congrats!
Congrats man. I bought a used Martin OM1 about 1.5 years ago and that guitar changed my view and ears on just how good Martins are. So I bought a 000-16 SM about 3 months ago. A week after I bought a new walnut back and sides J45. Martins are unbelievable and the OM and 000 guitars maybe thin but never think they are not the greatest sounding cannons they are. Only reason I went with the 000 over another OM is the shorter scale length and normal fretboard with . I don't think I want to replace my OM with another one anyway it does everything I could expect from the OM in the first place. After strumming 1 chord on the 000-16 I knew I had to buy it. Martin does not play building acoustic guitars hands down.
Mike, cannot believe your story as it’s practically identical to my own, I lusted after an OM28 for years and almost done it about 5 years ago but bottled it cause of the cost, then went in to GG in Glasgow a few times before Xmas and played a stunning Sunburst version, walked out the shop demented twice without buying, then went in 31st Dec 2024 and bought it, and like you I just love it, I can’t put it down and it’s a different level to any others I have, I’m also so delicate with it, keep it in the case, I’ve not even put a capo on it so glad I’m not the only headcase! It’s a guitar that makes me want to play better and do it justice, which I fear I never will. Enjoy it and thanks for sharing, and I understand the passion and desire your had to get this guitar. Beautiful playing also. 👌🏻
You got game Mike! Sounds, the sounds! You deserve it hopefully with the 2025 updates. Me with a covid era 2022 D18 that I can't stop playing. They are remarkable. Mine with the shop recommended KKR or KRK under bridge, I can't remember which, sounds sweet.
Love this! I bought a D18 from Gruhn guitars in Nashville last year. If I had to get rid of all my guitars, and only keep one, it’d be the one I’d keep. You’ll eventually get one lol! Enjoy that OM and congrats on getting it!
Beautiful guitar Mike! Martins just have a sound and you seem very comfortable playing it too. Lovely tribute to your Nan as well. I totally agree with the Clapton Unplugged thing as well. What a sound! I have to add Jimmy Page on How The West Was Won as well. His D28 sounded spectacular. That was the reason I got my HD28. Also has the LR Baggs pickup system which sounds unbelievable. I also picked up a LR Baggs Venue DI years ago that really helps with getting a consistent sound with questionable PA systems. But you never mentioned the most important thing, how does it smell?? Every Martin I've ever played smells really good. Yes I'm strange but I'm happy.
Hahaha did you see me smell it at the beginning? Hahaha. Thank you, and yes good shout on page. Looking forward to hearing the LR Baggs through a PA, I know it will sound glorious.
@@JimmyDel hahaha.. well funny thing is, with my first guitar which is at my Mums house, when I smell that, it takes me right back to the first day I got it over 28 years ago. It’s all about the smell. Haha
When u take it out of the case. Make SURE you hold the top of case up with one hand. Same as putting it back. The case top likes to shut on its own. Don’t want it to fall on your guitar as mine did as I put it in the case
Congrats! I also just got a Martin guitar. A used 2016 custom shop OMC-28 with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides. Got it for a “steal”! Still expensive, but good deal nonetheless. The used guitar market in the states is rough if you’re selling, but great if you’re buying (I’m sure it’s the same there).
Such a fantastic guitar. Congratulations! I’m curious, how does the body shape feel compared to your Taylor grand auditorium? If we were on the same continent, I’d lend you my 414ce for a comparison.
What a lovely video MrB, your excitement and joy is very clear. Can you video again please and move the mic so I can watch your picking fingers, they’re just magic to watch 🤌🖖🖐🥰
Aww thanks Pete, and yes sorry, that’s the only annoying thing with micing an acoustic and then filming, trying to get the best angle. Will do better for next time.
@ Haha 🤣. I wondered why you called me Pete when I’m BigDave from several Guitar Breaks events we’ve done in Brighton. Then I realised my You Tube ‘handle’ . Me bad! 🤭🤣
Great video, thanks Mike. I've just bought a used one, a 2022 model, they really are something special. What strings are on yours? I think Martin ship with their own SP range, but not sure. Enjoy your guitar and play every day 👍
Last year my wife took me out and told me to pick out the guitar I was wanting, Martin SC - 10E , the first thing I noticed is that it’s very temperamental about the humility, more so than my Taylor 414. But I keep them on the wall…. Run a humidifier in the room all winter long.
Those smaller guitars are perfectly balanced are they not? I guess you can post eq anything to sound pretty good but I could kinda tell when you got it out of the box. Do you sing swell Mike? You won't have to stretch ya voice to hard to get heard over that beauty. Anyway congratulations on the new guitar. Green with envy I am Haha! Happy New Year!
I loved the video, for some reason i feel compelled to recommend you listen to Daniel Padim, he is a fingerstyle acoustic artist who is incredible and i think he will blow your mind
Nothing smells better than a brand new Martin
Haha so very true!
Biggest congratulations, Mike - sounds wonderful! You are so hugely deserving! May Mary bring you many years of enjoyment!

Congrats Mike, well deserved! Welcome to the Martin club.
Yay! Thank you.
Wow, she’s a beauty ❤ Can’t wait to see tons of content created with MARY 😍
Happy Christmas indeed! Guitar looks and sounds great. I hope we get to see you play it live soon.
Pure joy - thanks for sharing! So great to see your raw joy and excitement. Congratulations!
Thanks so much Matthew.
Awesome. I picked up an OM-28 Modern Deluxe last march and absoluely love it.
Nice one mate, congrats to you too.

Congrats and good luck with it. I bought a D-28 when I turned 40. Always wanted one figured why put it off any longer.
Good man!
Oh wow! There is NOTHING like the sound of an OM-28... SO STOKED FOR YOU MIKE!!! 🎉🎉🎉🔥🔥🔥
Ain’t that the truth!.. thank you, really appreciate it.
Great to finally see it Mike and great to meet you before Christmas. I hope 2025 brings you loads of guitar playing happiness.
