Am I correct that the beautiful Baroque church up on the hill at the end of the video was one of only a very few buildings not destroyed in the March 16 1945 RAF bombing. Almost everything else was including the Marienberg, almost all of the Residenz (except for the staircase with the Tiepolo frescoes and 2 adjacent large rooms also with Tiepolo frescoes) the other churches in the city inclding St. Killian and 90% of all other buildings. The reconstructions are amazing. The painstaking work to bring Wurzburg back from almost total incineration is astonishing.. I read it took over 40 years to rebuild the Residenz, longer than when it was first built in the 18th century.
Yes, during the bombing raid on Würzburg on March 16, 1945, the church was hit by half a dozen phosphorus incendiary bombs, the fires could be extinguished and a hole in the church roof above the organ remained as damage.
