Walking in Fuerte Amador, Panama - What to Do on Your Day in Port

  • The day after we passed through the Panama Canal the ship stopped in the port of Fuerte Amador, Panama. The marina is at the end of a long peninsula and there is not much to do. Panama City is about 10 miles away. $20 US by taxi each way. There is a free shuttle to a shopping mall (one of the largest in the world), but it's just a mall. We recommend taking some sort of tour while you are in port.

The jetty that was under construction is actually the new cruise terminal. Fuerte Amador is the name of the marina, which is located in the Amador Causeway, constructed with the rocks that needed to be disposed somewhere from the construction of the canal. Thanks for the video!

All you did was go to the mall and back! We were hoping to see some ideas of what to do in port...

We had never been there before and expected there would be something to see or do where the tenders docked. There wasn’t so we took the free shuttle to the mall hoping there would be something around there to do besides shopping. There wasn’t. We highly recommend taking a tour or a taxi into Panama City. We are going there again this year. Thank you for your comments and we hope you subscribe to our channel.

One short day in a foreign country seems like a bit of a waste. I have been to Panama quite a few times, and suggest if you only have a very limited time, get an Uber (taxis are often predatory toward gringos) to Casco Viejo, the old quarter of the city, get dropped off at the main park there, Independence Square. Walk the many side streets and work your way to the west end of the peninsula. There you will find many sights, great shopping, authentic food choices, and spectacular cathedrals to visit. Panama is a small but amazingly diverse country, well worth spending an entire vacation there, the Panamanian people are some of the friendliest and helpful you will ever find. Safe travels!

I spent my whole day off yesterday watching port monkeys! It is way better than Netflix, or Hulu. Keep up the great work! Work on those pronunciations though. Thanks for the good times!

Woah, so it’s sad that so many of these ports have no identity or reflect the country they belong to. They’re all extremely generic ports selling the same stuff you can buy in the US or Canada. Who goes on a cruise for multiple weeks just to eat McDonald’s and Burger King from a huge mall? Give me the local ethnic food, local drinks, music, sell me a local news paper in heir native language. Everything is so shallow.

Fuerte Amador is just a harbor that the ships tender boats use. We should have gone into Panama City. Thanks for your comments and don't forget to subscribe.

No es fuerte Amador. todo lo contrario el nombre oficial es LA CAZADA DE AMADOR, ES UN LUGAR TURISTICO Y DE RECREACIÓN. Ya el concepto de una base militar paso a la historia.

Shouldn't that have been Armada instead of Amador? Like Armada Fort.
