One Arm Handstand Progression 2013-2016

  • This video nearly covers 2 and a half years of my training to achieve a one arm handstand. My goal was to achieve a 10 second hold coming back to center on my right side by the new year, but unfortunately I was a few days late! I can't put into words how happy and excited I am; it is incredible the hundreds of hours of training required for me to be able to do a 10 second skill. But I believe those were hours well spent.

    Wow, this is truly amazing! I recently got my first 50 second freestanding handstand, and now I'm working towards a one arm handstand . Wish me good luck boys!!

    Great Achievement Wade. It does take a good amount of time and most importantly patience....like I'm having it so far for my handstand push-ups... a long way to go to get my self doing it without any support. Let me know if any advice you wish to share.....Keep it up the good spirit....!

    @Wade Staines Hey man, thanks for sharing this video!
    I noticed that at the beginning of your progress your hips sometimes turn when you take your hand off the ground. I've been there for 2 months now and I haven't made any progress at all :( I analyzed everything but I can't understand why my legs twist as soon as I remove my hand. I don't know what to do, im stuck. If you could help me or tell me what made you overcome this hips twist i would be so thankfull!!
    And congrats for your hand balance🤙🏽

    Good progression made buddy!! one thing i notice with you and almost evereybody who can do a one arm handstand is their ability to overextend their elbows, it seems to be something crucial or at least very helpful

    • @StephanHohenthanner
      @StephanHohenthanner 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not crucial nor is it helpful to overextend a joint, the point is that in order to archieve one arm handstand you have to be in a fully stacked and extended position throughout the whole body. So while the endrange position in joints, especially elbow look different on everybody, some people end up in an overextended position and some dont.

    i am just wondering how often you have trained a week and for how long?
    i have learned the one arm handstand myself without a teacher or anything and it took me 1 year and 3 months to nail down a 10s hold. i was training it 5-7 times a week for 20-60minutes.

    • @WadeStaines
      @WadeStaines  8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Rene Ferrari Hmm, well my training in honestly not super structured like some people. I've been able to do a normal handstand since probably 2012-13, but really decided to focus on one arm handstand December 2015. Of course, as you can see in the video, I was doing some one arm work before then, but I feel like I really didn't make any significant progress until last December. That's when I really stopped training other things and put 100% of my attention on one arm handstand. Hope that helps!

      You can really train a lot if you're just handbal3

  • @deedd1440
    @deedd1440 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really Good like it! Just wondering about sets/ reps. I know more is better but how much is too much to overtrain and how much is too Little to progress? Lastly how much do you have to train a day not to loose this skill?

  • @MrChristwyman1
    @MrChristwyman1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    do the blocks help a lot?

    • @WadeStaines
      @WadeStaines  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do give you a little more control, but only very little. Blocks are NOT a magical fix, but they are great tools to help you attain one arm skills. I have plans to do a tutorial that focuses on the best methods for using blocks, so stay tuned :)

    • @WadeStaines
      @WadeStaines  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dad Nation realistically, if you want to achieve this in one year, you’ll need to train probably 2 hours a day, five days a week minimum. But don’t worry how long it will take. If you want it badly enough, it shouldn’t matter. Just enjoy the process, that’s the best advice I can give you. Nothing will teach you enduring patience like one arm handstand.
